it's not ray tracing. It's just a Global illumination filter. If it were Ray tracing going inside the hut in kakariko village, the indirect illumination would have worked differently. The reflections on water also had mistakes. In general, it's just GI with high contrast. Second to make actual ray tracing, you pretty much need to rewrite a bunch of rendering code from the original. Nobody has fully decompiled BotW yet for that.
The "global illumination filter" is screen space ray tracing it is a very limited method but it still is ray tracing the reflections were still screenspace reflections, no incredibly accurate never seen reflections Also the original game has a global illumination approximation method that does not use ray tracing (some light probes, colored ambient lighting and screenspace reflections probably)

Maybe even console exclusive games would turn to Nintendo since, well, they're Nintendo, the switch sales are massive, why wouldn't they invest? Imagine that on top of Nintendos quality 1st party games. The reasons to buy a Nintendo console AND an Xbox would dwindle making Nintendo next console a best seller. Or smthn like that idk
Its a nice mod but I prefer the artstyle which was used for the game, each zelda always has an unique artstyle and while realistic graphics are nice like tp princess(although textures didnt age well) there are too many games like that, thats what sets zelda apart from other games in the visual department.

The thing I love most about Nintendo games is the fact their graphics and hardware in general, normally pale in comparison to other larger companies, but its the art and designs of the games that make them absolutely beautiful. I think a lot of us associate the stylization of botw as something softer, melodious and more of an art, this seems to be a take for realism. The feeling is different, the atmosphere kind of changes with the approach. I love how people can do little changes like this to show us different effects. This game is absolutely stunning!
I agree. I know I have to express my opinion with kidness because if I don't, they would attack me like cuckos, so the rendering on this is great but Botw itself is pure art. Less is more, that's a fact.

I really hope that when nintendo said that the switch was half way through it's cycle they meant that in the same way as the DS. Like I really like the switch and the idea of it but man, I really just kinda want a next gen console at this point, fairly sure phones these days are better. A home console being released at around the same time as another switch console would be really nice. A lot of people get really pressed when people say "I want a home console because the games are better" like it's a crime to want good graphics.
Breath of the wild is already a gorgeous game on its own. This looks quite nice in the well-lit areas with lots of greenery, but otherwise... I feel like it takes away from BOTW's unique aesthetic. I think the slightly cartoony look was fully intentional.
This reminds of oblivion in a way, a fantasy setting unapologetically pumped full of the hype graphical effects of it's era. It's appealing in a decadent sort of way. Also, running on only a 2060 is really impressive

It's way to dark and you lose some effects like the fog at the distance (something key in the art direction), also I see a bit contrasting the low poly stylised assets vs the realistic lighting. The thing that I think is a really step up is the whater shading, it's beautiful in many aspects
It looks alright, but not a big fan of this style, at least for BotW. The general art design and atmosphere the devs were aiming for was perfect. The only improvement to the game one can make is in the framerate. If I wanted a fantasy game with more realistic elements, I would go to Skyrim.

@@tumultuousv the problem is a lot of those things are not inherent to Ray tracing they can be replicated by normal eighth gen lighting breath of the wild is using 7th gen lighting

This is the power of a Art director, to make big with less. And this is just a proof that there always be Gamers that have a lot of hungry of Games with powerfull graphic, but we know that Powerfull graphics itself doesn't make a game be good enogh, its like you look at a really beatyfull Shell with diamonds, rubys and etc, but realize that it's empity inside, there's no life, no soul.

I wished this could get a complete remake on ps5 with some intense graphics update and 60fps with beautiful ray tracing reflections and shadows. Omg. It would truly be a spectacle.

HDR makes a huge difference here as well.

I do feel like the characters should remain cel-shaded. They were designed with cel shading in mind. But the environment looks beautiful.
