You are an inspiration, as 51 year old woman from overseas, you have inspired me to buy a lathe, tools etc and I have now been turning for 2 months. Thanks for showing me a new fantastic hobby 👍🏻. Overseas
I can only imagine the itchiness from the steel wool fragments.
For fine material like that, may need to use a vacuum pot to expand the inclusion bubbles before using the pressure pot. Under vacuum, the trapped bubbles greatly expand and rise. Then the smaller remaining ones collapse when air is reintroduced, and shrink more in the prsssure pot, so inclusions, if any, are microscopic.
When casting stone or plaster for dental lab products we simply used a vibrator to get rid of bubbles in the cast. When making the mold for chrome steel castings any inclusions could spell catastrophic failure when time came to shoot the molten ingots into the mold which had to be heat soaked for several hours at about 1,925* F. Failure was pretty spectacular and very dangerous.
You're bowl tonight reminds me of a darkened cloudy sky. I love it. As much as I want to be in your drawing I won't. I don't have a use for the products and I wouldn't want them going to waste. Anyway, love the bowl. Thanks for another video.
Thanks for your support.
My wife said "You've got bowls of steel" USA
Hahahahhahaha, yassss!!!!!!!
@@MoonpieCreations you put in a pressure pot? ... would it have been better to use vacuum instead of pressure ? Those voids are really air bubbles aren't they? The vacuum would make them burst - right?
Thank you all for the amazing support

USA: that was something I was always thinking about trying. Loved the video.👍
Congrats on the 30,000 USA
I am partly disabled and I needed a hobby to keep me busy according to the wife so I started watching turning videos, for the last two year I have been turning and making my own stuff, thank you for the ideas and the inspiration. Keep the videos coming watching up here in Overseas / Canada
Love your shows. I’ve started wood turning because of shows like yours and I’ve just turned 50 and can’t wait to use resins. USA
Rock on!
my son and I have been working on rebuilding our garage shop. just finally got the money saved for a lathe. we are both looking forward to turning in the next month or so. thanks for the cool video. U.S.A. USA
That is awesome! Love to see what you turn.
I really enjoy your resin turning projects keep doing them you’re teaching me a lot at my age of 61 keep it up look forward to your videos every week. USA
Thanks, will do!
Love the way you work through all the problems you run across the projects always turns out great. USA
Nice looking bowl. The contrast of the oak, black resin and the wire wool looks stunning. Loving your videos. Stay safe and happy turning. Overseas
Famous last words"I'm hoping it filled out behind here, we'll keep turning and find out"glad it didn't blow apart on you!!!!
😂😂😂 I think 10 mins in the vacuum prior to the pressure pot would have been a good idea.
0:00 "I don't know why you make these suggestions on my videos..." 3:26 "The steel wool dulled my gouge almost instantly" Now you know why. Trolls be trolls.
My thought exactly.
LOL. Nailed it
Glad to see the channel is alive and kicking. Congratulations with the subscription. Overseas
Always a pleasure watching you work on a project. The bowl looks fantastic. Overseas
Not what I was thinking with the title being “casting” I was thinking molten metal in a mold lol
Sorry, but I hope you enjoyed it anyways.
100% thought the same thing, but wasn't disappointed with the amazing work I saw.
BRUH SAME! But, I stayed for the video anyway!
Thanks for being our guinea pig with all of the hybrid resin combos. This one is really cool. But really they are all great. Congrats. Keep turning. USA
Thanks so much!
Very interesting. Love it. Keep up the off the wall ideas. So many of us are not afraid to take the chance because we see that you have.
I love the fact that you will give anything a try with resin. Keep it up......some misses do not take away from the many hits!! USA
Very true! Thanks.
I just began my resin journey . I don't have all the fancy tools you have yet and definitely don't have a ton of resin on hand to do all the things I'd like , but watching you create these beautiful pieces gives me the fire and determination to work towards it.
Steel wool?! Whoda thunk it!? Looks great btw!
I'm in USA in NC to be specific
Good luck everyone! & thank you and your sponsors for all this.
Thank you
Congrats Ken, beautiful bowl and 30K subs.
If I may, two suggestions for you.
First, try pouring the resin, down one side of the form, the resin will flow down to the bottom and fill from the bottom up. When you pour all around the form you risk trapping air inside, as you experienced. As others have suggested, pull a vaccum, not positive pressure.
Second, "inclusions", is not the correct term. In castings, inclusions are solid deposits in the base material. Literally, the wood and steel wool, are inclusions in your resin. What you were observing were "voids", or "porosity".
Peace, Wolf
Best of luck and keep up the great work.
Thanks for the tips.
If a person doesn’t own or know someone that owns the machines, and tools.... who would I try to get in touch with for artworks and a possible job lol who knows. When my grandfather passed, my uncle sold his entire shop. Fully contained and all the machinery to build anything. I sure miss working with him. He would love these projects. Anyway, if you have any ideas. I live in Washington state if that helps.
Mr. Ken, I'll congratulate you again on your 30K. Totally earned it, because your vlogs are getting better and better each time. This bowl is outstanding despite all little imperfections. It truly blew my mind to see the steelwool swirl in the black resin. And WOW, did that piece of oak complimented the bowl or what. Bravo. Since I'm 18 for 23 years now, I'd love to get a chance to win your giveaway. Overseas
Another great bowl. Love the fact you show the entire process, what works, what doesn't and how to improve the process. USA
Thank you very much!
My 3 year old daughter loves this and wanted to say hi! Now she wants a lathe for her birthday
Hahahha she may be a tad to young. But that is pretty awesome. Tell her hey for me.
I love when y’all do crazy projects like this bowl!! USA
Thanks
I am always incredibly impressed with your finished products. Doesnt matter if its regular steel wool or freaking cardboard you always end up with a work of art. Keep up the great work. Im a huge fan since i came across this channel. Never cease to amaze
That is really nice to hear John. Thank you.
Congrats on 30k! Always enjoy your videos, no matter how bad things look like they may be going, you always turn it around for a great final piece! Inspirational in this crazy time. USA.
Thanks 👍
I have one of those cheap massage/heat pads for my chair. After pouring resin, you could put the bowl on top of it & turn the massage on. It would get rid of bubbles
Damn Matt that's a great idea thanks.
Do you just look around your house or shop and see something and think, "today, I am putting that in resin!" haha love the videos and the creative ideas!
Sometimes. But mostly I dream of something then have to get it out of my head by doing it./
Happy 30k💥💥 and thank you for your insperation. Me and the wife even got my mother inlaw to watch your videos with us and all we need to do now is to get her to do woodturning 🤣... Keep up the great work and can't wait for the next video. Overseas
That is awesome!
Really enjoy the woodturning videos! Motivates me to get my old lathe back up and running. Thanks! USA.
Great to hear!
“Thick set is very thin”. I would have never guessed 😂
I know right?!? Very confusing.
My wife always wakes up when she hears your voice because she knows it is going to be a video that. Congrats on 30K and thank you for your service. USA
That is awesome!
Thank you Ken for doing these crazy yet, AMAZING videos!!! I greatly appreciate you and for your time to give me something to look forward to. I’m getting a luguna lathe. I’m so excited. I won’t have the 15/24 until the summer but my big heart helped so many people that they’ve all came together and are all gonna but me one. Thank you so much and great luck to everyone... USA 🇺🇸
Congrats on 30k! Live your videos, I’ve been watching for quite a while and have learned a lot about turning from you! USA
Awesome! Thank you!
"Steel Wool" is a strange name for a wizard's spell.
😂😂😂😂😂
Congratulations on that 30k Ken Bowl looks great. USA
Thanks Doug.
Love your videos! They have really inspired me to incorporate more resin work in my turnings. Thank you! USA
You are so welcome! and Thank you.
Always love your videos, I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning. Keep up the good work! Happy new year
Awesome! Thank you!
Do you know that you're the newest Peter Brown?
Turn weird stuff and see what happens. Loving it, man
Haha, Peter Brown is a pretty nice guy. Met him a few years back. I'll take that as a compliment.
It almost reminds me of the murder bowl.
I just can't stop thinking to myself "why didn't he put on a long sleeve shirt?"
I know right?
@@MoonpieCreations just wipe it off with some fiberglass I suppose
I hate wearing long-sleeves around shop tools. Even if I'm wearing a sweater because it's cold, I'll roll up my sleeves when using a table-saw or anything else that might snag a dangling cuff and pull my arm into it. I'd rather my skin take a mild sandblasting from some sawdust than get my arm pulled into the business end of a power tool.
Cheers on 30K!! Enjoy watching your projects and learning more tips & ideas. USMC retired in USA.
Calhoun Thank you for your service! ♥
Awesome! Thank you!
Congrats on the milestone bro. Fingers crossed and Overseas
👍
Thank you.
@@MoonpieCreations I got an idea...Make hole plugs from 6 different color woods with a plug drill bit. Mix up the plugs in a plastic bowl like salad, pour in pearl colored resin that is still semi transparent. Put it in a pressure tank for removing inclusions, turn it and polish it, drop it into another circular container and pour redwood chips between clear resin levels. Example: clear two inches, clear with redwood chips two inches, clear again and then another clear with redwood chips. All souriunding the first portion of project. Then re-turn into another bowl or vase from there. Is this doable?
i guess I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Mitchell Lyle Flixportal :)
@Bridger Enzo Thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) Appreciate it !
I was surprised to see you turn steel wool without gloves. Yes! it is surrounded by resin but it only takes a few microfibres of steel in your hand to give problems. Wood splinters work their way out of your flesh. Metal splinters work their way in. That's a bit of personal experience, that is.
Thanks for that information. It’s been well over a month and no issues. Maybe I dodged a bullet. Next time I’ll make sure to wear gloves.
@@MoonpieCreations I'd second the above, also carbide tools mate.
Steel on steel, even tool steel will kill your edge in a heart beat.
You need carbide or high speed tool steel same as you would use on a metal lathe.
Spinning things and gloves is an accident wait to happen.
@@XtreeM_FaiL I had a friend using a grinding wheel, the bench mount type with a wire wheel opposite the grinding wheel. Long story short, he was using the grinding stone, wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt, much like the gentleman in the video, and the wire wheel caught on his shirt sleeve. It's looking like he will have a short sleeve flannel for spring.
@@XtreeM_FaiL loose gloves. surgical-style gloves are fine here.
Thanks for all of the great videos and congratulations on 30K. Your videos have peeked my interest into wood turning and have recently purchased my first lathe. Looking forward to watching the chips fly. USA.
Awesome, thank you! Good luck.
As a new turner, I find all the variety and ingenuity of turning to be endlessly fascinating. Awesome bowl, and thanks for the giveaway. USA
My pleasure!
Shouldn't the pressure pot have taken care of all the bubbles? I thought that's why you guys used it.
It does in most cases, but there are instances where it doesn't.
"casted"?!
Thank you for sharing all your videos. I especially like the bits that go wrong it's great to see you sort them out. Overseas
Thanks for watching!
I just made my first resin pressure pot pour and haven't even had it cure yet. This was great! I'm looking forward to seeing other resin pours you've done. Overseas / Canada
