Great question! Yes, it is common since the electronics are housed there and the valve operates around 200Hz. It can be replaced, but for best performance, it should be mated with the main stage and tuned to factory specifications.

For external pilot configuration, how the pilot supply is given if plugs are not removed on this model?

The Hydraulic Pilot Pressure has to be supplied into the X port if the external pilot plug is installed. When the plug is removed the X Port is connected to the Supply Pressure.
