Growing up in Sacramento Country from 1952, on, we owned property near Placerville, where I spent many days roaming the hills with my best friend and our .22 rifles. We thought we were some sort of frontiersmen. I always loved Placerville and won trophies at the Placerville night MX races that were held at the Country Fairgrounds. I have lived out of state for 22 years now. I sometimes feel very homesick for Placerville and El Dorado County.
Well, I to once roamed the hills myself. It's not possible anymore to do like we did in the 70's and even the 80's. So many houses now out were used to roam as kids with our rifles. I was born, raised, and still here 54 years old, and I can tell them the good old days are gone. It's all private property after property. Now the Bay Area people are moving up by the tons. The place I have always called home is disappearing year after year.
Really nice production and writing. Enjoyed learning a bit about the background of one of the true pioneer settlements of 'Alta California'. Hope to visit again someday!
I grew up in Placerville and restored our first Victorian there. The video mentioned the Ohio House and it burning down in 1921, we had the back bar from it's saloon in our house for years. The story went, when the fire broke out, the patrons tried to carry the bar out of the building, but it was bolted down so they picked up the ornate two piece 10ft tall back bar and cabinet instead. We moved up 49 to Nevada City about 30 years ago, restoring more houses.
Most of the important memories of my life are from Placerville! Thank you for sharing your research! It brings back a lot! :) That place shaped my life and influences me to this day!
I lived in Cupertino, CA from birth 1951 to '85, then moved to Placerville until Jan 2023. Love CA but it had gotten so expensive, ridiculousness over new laws, EV push, forced power outages, water/sewer & all utilities expenses were ridiculous, roads had gotten so bad. The state takes alot of money with no accountability for infrastructure upkeep. Homelessness and crime was a big problem when I left and worse now.
This is nice. I always thought Placerville was some fictional town because it seemed to be mentioned in passing in about every old TV Western.....it was like we just came from Placerville...or we're going through Placerville.....or this guys from Placerville....but we never ever saw Placerville.....so it's nice to know it actually existed and /or still exists.....
It is so sad what CA has become today. As a native of northern CA, I fled the East Bay Area in 2014. It is sad what a once beautiful place of history and beauty has become. They ruin everything!

And yet you're so homesick that you're watching videos of Placerville just a little over a year later...
Thank you for posting. Love the area, my Great Aunt and the family enjoyed living there, always an interesting visit.
Briefly lved in Placerville in 1964, while working on a irrigation project in Amador County, running river water into Plymouth.

I learned how to parallel park there! LOL! I love your dedication to the history of Placerville. I grew up in Hangtown! :)
Nicely done. I used to live just outside Placerville for a couple of years back in the nineteen eighties. Recognize some of the buildings.

Very nice video.
John walk down this memory lane with me. Old blue and pickled vegies too.
Definitely informative.
I grew up down the hill from there
Love it!
My last name is Rupley and my family’s name has strong history there
My 4x great grandpa and his brother was a 49 there
They came back to Ohio very wealthy
Towns and neighborhoods are still burning to the ground today.
To all those that know this place , I got a real picture from this place back in 1871. I would like to sell it .
The tree died in a fire, thats why they cut it down.
Hangtown
San Andreas ca
Parking lots. 😝
Turning "purple" as they remove the noose from Ol Hangtown, cuz it's racist.... smdh....
Society of self-absorbed narcissists. If I don't like it, it needs to be destroyed.
So the theme is let's destroy amazing buildings to make parking lots
Building decay and become dangerous
It has soldiers in the background.
