I see 17 year old me. Front row all day. I think Echo & The Bunnymen we’re on first that day. I’m short and getting round in knee deep mud with giant cord flares and a long leather jacket was not easy. Once I got somewhere, I stayed! 😂
Glastonbury 97 was one of the 2 Glastonburys that I did attend (by scaling the fence of course!) - it was one of the last really great Glasto’s despite the boggy conditions because of the rich quality of music across ALL stages, the only bummers that year being the weather and clashing quality band performance times - the fact that I barely remember the weather being a testament to how great the whole event was
The mud was crazy. There was a massive hole in the ground near one of the gates to the main stage field, invisible because of mud... people were falling down it - splat - every couple of minutes, like some sort of cartoon, ending up neck deep.
@@invade81 what made it worse was the straw they put down on the paths to try to soak up the mud - I had mud and straw sticking to my boots increasingly until I ended up resembling a shire horse lol
@@MiniLemmy oh, yeah. All day trudging about with extra lbs of mud stuck to your legs, after a while hoping it would rain again to loosen up the mud. Slept with feet sticking out of the tent as it was too much work to take off boots. There were reports of people getting trenchfoot and then e-coli in the mud people were diving face first into. Bit of a novelty that time... It was different the following year - sunny on the Friday and then along came the rain again, changed the vibe immediately

I took 10 Es that weekend... Primal Scream and Chemical Brothers...we couldn't find the Prodigy, mind you had seen them a few years before at Tribal Gathering 😂
@@chriscassidy5362 didn’t even know the scream team were on and I followed them around like mad back then ~ Ian Brown’s first solo gig too, I knew nothing about it. Apparently he came into the tent in a hood with a flaming torch n nearly set fire to the tarpaulin
I paid a guy in a security high viz £10, got in his Ford Escort where he coloured in a passout hand stamp with a highlighter pen and stamped my hand. I was sure I was being mugged but I walked straight in
Beck’s harmonica playing, not particularly memorable. Beck’s Devil’s Haircut, priceless! Also, interesting to see the original incarnation of Smashing Pumpkins here. That will change very shortly after this appearance.
I remember this year, I was 15 and I saw Prodigy... ABSOLUTELY F**KING AWESOME
wow what an experience, sounds like you had a great time. crazy festival
@@Gareth-y6h it was full on, a lot of e-heads... Couldn't do it nowadays 😉😎
yeh the prodigy were a great live band. saw them 3 or 4 times at diffrent festivals and they were never bad.
Wow! Thanks so much for capturing - great to relive this!

The weekend I found there was many types of mud. Nearly put me off festivals for life

Remember watching prodigy then walking miles to the jazz stage to watch Massive Attack at midnight, good days
always a nightmare having to get from stage to stage, crazy busy
No phones 📱 in the 90s🥲☺️😁🎵😄
much more fun

music did seem better back then and the bands too.

Its an hours walk to most other areas of Glastonbury on a dry day. In the mud it was an expedition.

Even though it WAS bloody horrible, I'm glad I was there. Radiohead were (or is it 'was') surprising.
glad to hear you survived and had a great time
Wow I was there. 22 years old. Paid £10 each to some guys to get us over the wall with a rope ladder. Good times ✌🏻✊🏻
haha those were the days
Me and my mates made a rope ladder that year the mud fest and charged £10 each and made a nice bit of money. Hope you enjoyed it😁

I was there but totally missed Prodigy as drank too much in the afternoon & was really sick. I was gutted and my boyfriend was furious with me!
That's a bit out of order on his part. Hope he's lightened up a bit.
oh dear, thats not good. hope you saw other bands though

I was there - my friend had her mobile, but we couldn't be bothered to use those precious minutes!
Was this the one where Phish played at?
It was a nightmare. But I went back again a few more times. Never paid to get in. Always ran out of money in the first 24 hours. Don’t mix your drugs.
ROFL yes i guess that is true. shame about the weather but i guess it was good fun to look back on now
When glasto was still good.
