As a Marine Lee Marvin is a personal hero of mine. My Grandfather served with him on Saipan. He pre planned his burial with the V.A. all he wanted was a GI issued stone, He's buried next to Joe Louis.
That's really neat to hear of your grandfather serving with him. He is certainly in good company in that cemetery and especially next to Joe Louis. Thank you for sharing all of that.
What an awesome story about Lee Marvin I really enjoyed his movies and he was a great actor I knew it was in the military but I didn't know he won all those medals rest in peace Lee Marvin you were one of our true heroes
He was one of my favorite actors. I loved him in Paint Your Wagon and Catbellou. Where he played a drunk cowboy and even his horse was drunk. Semper Fi, Lee.
Yes, he credited his horse in that film for his performance when he won his award. It really is a great film. I loved his westerns and I was q big fan of Dirty Dozen. Thank you for watching!
Great guy! I met him back in the 70's at a friends' home in Tucson, as he was a friend of theirs. Loved hearing him tell of his experiences. Thanks Rhetty!
Only 63. Did I hear that right? How sad. Two of my favorite films, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Dirty Dozen. Love this series you're doing. Thank you sir.
Those were both excellent films and they are my favorites of his as well. He wasn't as old as we may have all thought. The gray hair at a young age sort of fooled us. Thank you for watching!
I really like these Hollywood Heroes videos. He had a long and varied career...he was one of my dad's favorites. He never missed one of his movies! Thanks for highlighting his life and career. Thanks Mr. Marvin for your service.
I had no idea that he had colon cancer. Im not surprised that he didnt respond well after the surgery. I had colon/rectal cancer when I was 48 (5yrs ago) and it takes alot out of u. Great video Rhett! This man was truly a hero
I think it was all much more invasive when he had his surgery and I'm sure he had some other underlying issues. I know it still can't be easy to go thru but I'm sure glad you overcame it. Thank you for watching and sharing your story.
@@RhettyforHistory Thank u Rhett....Its been a struggle and Im slowly healing, so I cant imagine how tough it was for him to go through that at his age
Rhett, I enjoyed your feature about entertainer, and military hero, Lee Marvin. I knew about some of the various items you mentioned but some were new to me about, Lee Marvin. He had a very interesting and yet fascinating life in every aspect of his lifestyle. Great investigating, presentation and photos, too. Have a fantastic weekend. Take care 🐎
I've visited his grave years ago. I was assigned to a Military Police Unit that responded to the attacks on 9/11. We spend 7 months there doing entry control points at the Pentagon. We stayed in Barracks on Fort Myer, which is adjacent to Arlington. I could literally through a rock from the barracks and it would land inside Arlington. Of course I never threw a rock at Arlington.. But I am a fan of exploring cemeteries. I spent a lot of time in Arlington visiting the known and unknown fallen. Anyway, that's my long way of saying I have visited and paid my respects to Lee Marvin. As always, great video , and tribute to Lee Marvin.
He really was a great actor and a hero as well. Sounds like you had an interesting assignment there. DC is one of those places that never gets old for me. Thank you for watching Danny!
Great actor for sure. Loved him in the 1969 movie, "Where Eagles Dare" with Clint Eastwood. It is ashame people get hooked on Cigarettes, drugs, booze, and different women! Price of a Hollywood star, and fame I guess. One thing is for sure, he was burning the candle on both ends! Great video Rhett! Thank you for sharing!❤💯👍👍🖐🖐🖐👏👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm not sure if it is Hollywood or his war time experiences. Lots of veterans go thru that with his type of horrors he experienced. Thank you for watching.
Hey Rhetty 🤗 nice to hear about what actors go through in their personal lives, just goes to show they are only human like the rest of us. RIP Lee Marvin. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
Rhetty, A tough life, bad war injuries and bad memories for him I'm sure added to His shortened life. We are all "heroes" , when we live and die with dignity. CHeers, Rik Spector
He certainly had a rough go at times but his story is fascinating. I'm thankful for those like him who stepped up and served the country. Thank you for watching!
One of my favorites! I found his grave by accident. I was looking at the Brown Bombers grave. I wanted to see who was fortunate enough to be buried by the greatest boxer of all time. It was none other than Lee Marvin!
I really like this style of video, there were many Gi's that turned actor and many actors that turned GI they were all part of the greatest generation.
HEY, RHETTY YEAH, Alot of people don't Realize how many Actor's served In the Armed forces Daring world war II and sacrifices years of there Acting career and some never went back due to injuries or didn't find it that Important any more Well as usual I enjoyed this video very much OK Take care stay safe God bless and will see you on the next video project
I find it interesting to see who served and who didn't. John Wayne received a lot of flak for it bit kept being a huge star. Before the war Gene Autry was the biggest singing cowboy. He went in and Roy Rogers not only took over but took over everything merchandise wise. I don't feel it would have happened if it wasn't for the war. Thank you for watching Mark!
