Good luck with the MoT. You need to get under the scuttle and lubricate up the wiper linkage as it's suffering from corrosion due to sitting for so long which is causing it to bind up. The charging light showing up could just be down to the electronics needing to re-learn their parameters after sitting with a dead battery for so long. @@furiousdriving And a bit of driving so the ECU can re-learn should help even more. I think you might have a chance with this, it seems the other channels (apart from the Rover) are all losing points before they even start. The Celica is over 100k miles, the Civic was owned before the challenge started, the Renault loses points because it's a Renault (so would a Peugeot, Citreon or Fiat). Errm.... why exactly did you jack up the corner of the car with the oil drain plug on it, so that the oil in the sump would run away from the plug and all the old sludge at the bottom would not run out and therefore stay in the sump and cack up the nice new oil and filter ? Would have taken 30 seconds to remove the axle stand and drop the trolley jack to let it drain properly..... Unless I missed something ?

I read that in the very late nities there was an article in an American women's magazine picking the coolest sportscar in the market. They featured the Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette, Audi TT, and others. The (female) readers picked: the Hyundai Coupe !! I have difficulties believing the story is true, but on the other hand ...

Very sorry to hear that, what a tragedy. Im always paranoid going under cars and put props in 2 or 3 places. This is a new one from Draper with a very low saddle so I can get it under the Tomcat and other lowered cars

The design team were having a bad day when they thought this model up and got carried away with swag lines but they must of got on a learning curve because the next model was a Enzo inspired nicer model. But surprisingly might become a classic.
Spotted the clutch hydraulic fluid reservoir the moment the engine was revealed. The cap is a major pain in the behind to pop back - truth is, mine is held onto the reservoir by duct tape even this very moment. So be prepared to 'toy around' with the cap as it is a horrendous piece of design.. or just let me know how you managed to do it, Sir. Suppose it still has an 'Alpha' descendant engine by the looks of it - if the engine is a bit worn, follow up on the oil levels regularly. Mine sips oil in the city, but not on the road - either a seal around the valves gave in, or the gasket around the sump is non-existent and oil somehow dissipates (no puddles no nothing under the vehicle). Lights are funny; fog lights are differently available until the high beam is on. (I reckon my back foglights are off otherwise) And my aerial is bent, so I'll have a hard time once I get a radio into my car .. the envy :D Don't sell it if you can afford it, just give it some love, it will stand up to it.
Luckily with only 39000 miles on the clock this feels like a new car so I should be good. Having said that, the Alfa Twin Spark uses 1 litre every 1000 miles, its even in the handbook! If this gets its fluids changed it'll be a garage! Ill ask how he does the cap!
Wouldn't one of those magnetic stick tools have made easy work of pulling that sump plug out of the oil? Mine cost £3 on amazon and it's one of the most useful tools I have!
@@furiousdriving try this: newtonnet.co.uk/coupe It has the owners manual, schedule and fluid charts, parts list, jacking points and electrical and mechanical service manuals. Belt tension looks OK, I think its just the brushes and a bit of use and contact cleaner has cleared them, the charge keeps going up the longer it runs
When you drag that car remove the spare wheel. Instant weight loss to car. Also your car is lighter than the Celica. Rev the engine to red line in each gear but make sure you don't wheel spin. My aunt has one and so far it is a real pain in the ass trying to find parts for it. The only reason why I want to restore it for so bad is because it only has 82000 miles on it and I want her to enjoy it while she still can
I think you can definatley sell it for a profit! the things almost new!
Can't wait for the next episode of : The resurrected Coupe !
Errm.... why exactly did you jack up the corner of the car with the oil drain plug on it, so that the oil in the sump would run away from the plug and all the old sludge at the bottom would not run out and therefore stay in the sump and cack up the nice new oil and filter ?
Would have taken 30 seconds to remove the axle stand and drop the trolley jack to let it drain properly.....
Unless I missed something ?
You did bloody well there to get all of that fixed, hope the mot goes well!
Looks like you bought a very good project car for your money. You've got to man up about your oil phobia, though - it's just a bowl of used oil, no poo or dead things. That said, I hate picking paint scabs, the thought of all the rust hiding underneath, well done there!
I think the cleaning should've been main emphasis on this one..Missed a trick there!
Id imagine it was the pre-facelift version if it is true!
watched this and then i see that the mot result has been uploaded what a treat to watch both videos
Thats the beauty of working to a time limit, youre all watching in real time!
Right had indicators great that where it should be, for right hand drive cars
Oh no daisy dukes and tied off shirt🤣🤣🤣
**shudders**
my 96 Mazda 323F also has pillarless doors and an electric aerial ;) you should review one of those someday, preferably the 1.5 :P
Watching this is like watching the old Halfords adverts
I checked the car on check my car yesterday
Dont tell anyone, thats the next video!
Lips are sealed 😯
i have the same car and same colour, but mines a 2.0. oil is 10w 40 semi and always use a oem oil filter (due to pressure)
I've got the 1.6 great cars absolutely bulletproof
did all early coupes have that front end on with the separate lights or is that some kind of conversion? great video....love things like this!
gen 1s had a pretty single lamp design, much less fussy
Love these style of cars. Light 2 door coupes. Unfortunately in America best version we only got the fx. But heard y'all got the evoll model or something of a limited edition model
I believe the gen 3 got some hotter ones, I think this only went up to a 2 litre, Ill research it all before the review video!
That's really cool thanks
I still cant believe only 39000 miles, would be easy to resell
Wow a very cool video. Thanks Matt. I am so glad that you use the axle stand. I lost my best friend due to him not using a stand.
Your jack looks similar to mine, very low. I love it. But I still strugle to get to my jacking point on the front of my 1 series.
Good luck matt!!
Matt
Very sorry to hear that, what a tragedy. Im always paranoid going under cars and put props in 2 or 3 places. This is a new one from Draper with a very low saddle so I can get it under the Tomcat and other lowered cars
furiousdriving :) I’m paranoid too now :)
I hope I get to meet you in the future if I move back to England. Along with Ben and Joesph..
I look forward to seeing the next video based on this car
The design team were having a bad day when they thought this model up and got carried away with swag lines but they must of got on a learning curve because the next model was a Enzo inspired nicer model. But surprisingly might become a classic.
Weirdly it really grows on you! I miss it
Think the design looks pretty nice, but each to their own. I think most BMWs look boring but a lot of people like them.
I'm thinking about buying one for my first car... Its got 300,000 miles. What do you think?
Good job 👍🏼 I bet alternator had dirt and grubby stuff on contacts
Think it’s duff now
furiousdriving oh no 🤦♂️
AMAZING series! Make sure to continue this!!!!! I dont usually comment on videos but I hope I give some motivation here bcuz i wanna watch it xD
Thanks, I cant believe how popular this car is! Its surprised me how nice it is, now cant wait to see what it can do in the challenge
(I reckon my back foglights are off otherwise)
And my aerial is bent, so I'll have a hard time once I get a radio into my car .. the envy :D
Don't sell it if you can afford it, just give it some love, it will stand up to it.
It would lift it but you'd have to locate it first in the bottom! And then have a very oily pick up tool
Really enjoy your videos.
Getting better all the time.
Hubnut watchout!
No, we can team up and become...Furious Nut!
@@furiousdriving If he wasn't going to NZ you could sell this lovely old bus to him... Really is a true HubNut car with that 1.6l engine!
i think the ash tray not sitting flush with the rest of the piece is normal since i noticed that in my hyundai coupe too.
oh, I thought it was all a bit better than that! At least its not broken. Is the slot above that wont move cup holders?
@@furiousdriving yup, two cup holders, they should work the same way as the ash tray, push in and they come out slowly.
@@furiousdriving try this: newtonnet.co.uk/coupe
It has the owners manual, schedule and fluid charts, parts list, jacking points and electrical and mechanical service manuals.
In the mechanical service manual you might find the way to remove the whole assembly of the cup holders out and prevent further damage.
Having that car with that milage with the interiors in brand new condition for that little money was a hell of a steal since i got mine with 168000km for 3000€ and wasnt in that good of a condition to start with :)
@@MrRubenRusso Brilliant thanks, that will be very useful!
That's the Draper Jack it's a good Jack far lighter than the one I got from Euro car parts. Sump plug in oil yucky. Cable ties are your friend bat support. It's a good engine I might not like the car but the engine is good. It sounds better needs new alternator. The brushes are worn Or dirt.
Think its just dirt as the longer I test it the better the output gets, no charge light on the dash now..
Fingers crossed for the MOT
I felt sorry for the clubman getting covered with all that dirt !
it has red acne where the boot paint fell on it!
@@furiousdriving Thanks for the reply , enjoying your channel !
What jack were you using ? Looks just the job for jacking up my Alfa Spider 916 😀 good luck with the project 👍
Its a Draper 01106 low entry for lowered cars, 3 tonne lift for heavy ones and a big saddle spreads the load, its a great bit of kit- here's the link amzn.to/2nt04Oy
Great thanks for the link 👍
So far for a £200 car, it's not bad. Hopefully, the MOT test won't reveal any nasty surprises.
wait and see...tomorrow
Ah, the Back to the Future theme! Let us hope that you pass the MOT, sir.
If not Ill just go back and try again!
@@furiousdriving, ah yes, that's the spirit, sir!
For gods sake change the alternator for a bad charge! Basic mechanics 101! Or if adventurous, take it out and clean the bushes and contacts! Plus check after its been sat for years that the auxilliary drive belt isnt perished or saggy! Tension the belt is a more modern cure
Belt tension looks OK, I think its just the brushes and a bit of use and contact cleaner has cleared them, the charge keeps going up the longer it runs
13.5 plus is charging its got a bad alternator
Lol i have this exact car! Color and all! Paid $500 us for it and been driving daily over an hr to and from work haha thing rips🤙
Invisible repair 😂😂😂😂
I have the same car in gray plate !
When you drag that car remove the spare wheel. Instant weight loss to car. Also your car is lighter than the Celica. Rev the engine to red line in each gear but make sure you don't wheel spin. Average start rev to around 3500 rpm. Think the engine might be a mitsubishi so its got twin cam 16. Best wishes.
Not sure but i think alpha engines, 1.5 in scoupe and accents are mitsibishi engines bases not sure bout this one cuz is beta engine. Have rd1 (earlier model then this one) 1.6 fun car but im thinking to put 2.0 in him 415k km and still going strong
I had the same car in the same color I really miss it
Some of the worst facelifted cars. The original one looks way better.
Just bought one of these😁$150
They look a easy car to work on
Can you give us a clue did it get on alright at the mot station lol
Its like a 90s Rover, really simple. - no spoilers! Thats tomorrows video!
Hyundais of this period were, they're mostly older Mitsubishi derived technology. Easy and cheap to work on and usually pretty bulletproof.
Nice car i have the same car in Poland 4 years
19:32 did you mean Korean as Hyundai are Korean
yes but I cant read that either
In the States that car is named the Tiburon
its better to use OEM Hyundai filters on these cars
others could cause lifter tick etc
Ive used this brand a lot before and not had a problem, dont forget, budget challenge!
its like 10 euro at the dealer mate thats nothing
7 more than the Mann filter!
What kind of engine is in it?
Hello, could you please help me and show where the speed sensor is located on this car ?
Hi, Im afraid I dont know. Probably on one of the wheel hubs or gearbox
What a difference a wash makes to a car 😀,it looks so clean now, there was alot of free fixes, Result!!!,don't tell Mr HubNut about the triangle of doom LOL,nice car for £200.👍.
right hand indicator must be weird to get used too
Its the same on my P6 so kind of used to it, and the Merc has left hand wipers so all mix and match!
RH indicators was the British style which made it to Japan and then to a lot of Asia.
The idea is that you indicate with your spare hand and change gear etc with the other.
Now we've all been harmonised to LHD format....
