After leveling , how do you bring the overall volume up , cos obvsly , after leveling it will loose volume , how do you get the overall mix loud , cos if ur beat is low no1 wants to buy .. thanks for the reply in advance
This video helped me more than most of the other mixing tutorials. My mix is perfect and it sounded great when I mastered my track. Can't wait to release it.
Quick tip on sidechain: Using the Limiter drowns out your 808 a little bit a removes some of the natural boom and i realized this recent so instead on using sidechain the kick to the 808 or vice versa and put fruity peak controller on your kick mixer track then level your 808 to your preferred volume right click the volume knob and copy the volume. Head into fruity peak controller turn off Mute button at the bottom of the VST window and paste the volume onto the "base" knob within the VST window. Now right click the volume knob for the 808 and and hit link to controller then click on internal controller and link to the one that says "Peak" ONLY now when you play the beat the 808's volume knob should slide on its own but its makes the 808 louder every time the kick hits so go back into fruit peak controller and turn down the volume knob and listen to the beat and adjust to preference and up the decay so that the 808 doesn't take so long to phase back in now your kick should knock a little harder still keeping the 808s natural boom. Only thing is wen u wanna adjust the volume of the 808 u have to adjust from the "Base" knob within the fruity peak controller or else it's gonna change the volume knob back to the percentage you set the "Base" Knob to originally. Just Trying To Help :) I may post a leveling/EQing tutorial to help some people understand what they are looking for in the sounds instead of just telling them you want this at this specific db.
Really learned a lot of my stuff from Internet Money but I'm starting to feel like their tutorials are sounding the same so I'm happy I found your channel it helps me have different views and it's really helpful!
What about headroom though? Everyone said it's extremely important to leave headroom. And are you always satisfied with having melodies ect at -20db I feel like it's quite low
+Luck once you master it the -20 dB stuff usually comes up to around -14 which is good. And you can always check by just throwing a limiter on the master buss and then cranking it to see if it reaches UR volume
this is a great leveling tutorial for beats that are going to soundcloud, personally i prefer to master my beats when i put them there. but i hope your audience gets that this is not good for whole songs, when leveling a beat for a song, the highest peak should be -4db (some say that its should be -6) and not compressed. thats the best way to fit the vocals to the mix. and the 808s should be a little more quiet, the exciters and multiband compressors are the best for boosting the low end.
Henri Beats I agree, I do this and use a compressor with a ratio of 6:1 usually and it helps to get my drums to really punch through. Also many mix engineers reccomend you not boosting or cutting anything more than +/- 6db (unless you're low/high/band passing ofc) during the mixing phase*
@@renitascott417 that's up to to, I usually move it until it starts to grab the highest peaks, I don't like it to be obvious that I'm using a compressor
yeah was fantastic just the background music was a bit much at times when trying to listen to your explanation and examples (even though the beat was hard) but all in all this was a massive help! feel more confident and have much stronger understanding!
shouldn’t you EQ before you do the leveling because EQ-ing also slightly changes (lowers) the volume of your channels and like this you end up with a more quiet and less punchy mix at the end?
Bruh you didnt even gain stage your shit is clipping even if its mixed cuz your omnisphere is clipping itself reducing the level only lowers the distortion so your main melody is clipping even in the mastered version. Best tutorial ever ! Thumbs up. (Message: Lower your synths before mixing so no VST goes above 0dbFS) Like if you saw this too.
If I seen this tutorial when I first started everything would've made sense but thanks either way bro. Whoever watches this and say attention will get a head start. I didn't eq until my 3rd track
It is exactly what i was about to say ... 0db.. good luck for the Mastering 😂😂😂 I think even if this tutorial is supposed to teach to beginners, apart mislead them, this tutoriel is useless 🤔 😕
one thing I do recommend when EQ'n 808 and kicks is EQ'n like you did with the melody but do it at 25hz, 25hz isn't even audible for us, we can't even hear those frequencies so you might aswell take them out.
In mastering ... your plugins react to a certain level of sound way better. So in your mix leaving your faders down this much will DEFINITELY make compressors and limiters act totally different. Check out GAIN STAGING... you will see the correct way to have your faders level but still adjust the sound to level the mix. This way the mastering plugins get the most sound and react how they are meant to. 👍
Also many fx plugins (if modeled after analogue) are meant to be fed at around -16db, I like to reduce the gain into the fx and then add a gain boost at the end of my fx chain back to normal so I don't mess with my slider levels before gain staging
Gain staging isn't as important as balancing your levels if you're inside the box. There are no analog modeled plugins he is using. So all he has to do is adjust the overall level going into the master, which he does. Gain staging to the extent you're talking about here isn't going to make this mix any different.
I and @imortalbeats use to do this when just we started out back in 2008 , I totally forgot about this YOOO!!! tHANKS maaaaanne!!! up n up bro bro .... #fyre

do some mastering ( things on the master channel) with limiter, google that, n also add some stuff like soundgoodiser
Actually it's not that big... this is one of the best tutorial i've ever seen so far.
thank you man
Yo how come you made me understand this better than the last 20 videos i've watched 😅
Definitely a sub
This video helped me more than most of the other mixing tutorials. My mix is perfect and it sounded great when I mastered my track. Can't wait to release it.
WTF Dont put background music in a leveling Tutorial
MHFriends he can do what he want, bro.
That's why there's visuals, dumb dumb.
haha my bad i tried to just keep it in places where i was just talking but ill keep that in mind
KYOKU it was fine, I understood it perfectly!

Video length is fine imo, thank you so much for this tutorial btw it is going to help a lot

yeah bro fruity limiter is awful, and if u need a limiter(not a compressor) better use soft clipper
thanks for the tips bro
Maximus is better than Limiter
thanks man
Right brother; i use controllers everywhere XD. It just destroys the purpose of mastering XD
Dope tutorial, straight and to the point !
Really learned a lot of my stuff from Internet Money but I'm starting to feel like their tutorials are sounding the same so I'm happy I found your channel it helps me have different views and it's really helpful!
Don't put background music
my bad ill keep that in mind
+KYOKU great beat though
which beat is?
Great vid bro. Can you do the mastering next
maybe! but i need to cop some izotope stuff first, might have noxx make a video :P but thank you!

if u give me izotope ill give u omnisphere
Yooo help me get ozone please
You shouldn't put beats in the background of your videos. It confuses the audience. Peace.
Best video of its type out. We thank you!
I needed this...the background music was a bit of a distraction but it really helped...big thanks bro
The irony of making a mixing tutorial with muddy levels and over powering background music in the video.
This was a dope tutorial. I’m going to try these exact methods tomorrow! Thank you

Yes, -6 is usually as high as you want to go.

Bro, you fr have the best fl studio tutorials on UA-cam. They’re so easy to understand and follow. Thanks for the help.
Wow you made it so much easyer than the other youtubers producers
shouldn’t you EQ before you do the leveling because EQ-ing also slightly changes (lowers) the volume of your channels and like this you end up with a more quiet and less punchy mix at the end?
I was thinking the exact same thing. I always EQ before the final leveling phase.
Yea i agree with this as well but overall besides that this is a good tut
You most definitely should eq before leveling
Level then eq
You can eq before if you know proper gain staging
The best informative video thus far.
I always mix with another beat playing in the background
your a God
this the best tutorial i have ever get thank you very much for this tutorial
one of the best tutorial...thank you dude
Goood video & it was not to long it takes time to explain things proper. I have been using fl studio for 17 years. Great tool.
Great tutorial bro. I really just came to learn a bit more with sidechaining.
I would advise to put your bass in mono, not stereo.
Thank you so much, first video I’ve seen from you and have a great first impression 🤙🏼
