My foot shape leans slightly narrow and V2 is a very good fit, especially in the midfoot. Toebox has just enough room but nothing extra. Some like myself will benefit from the slight changes.

The heel is a bit more accommodating and the overal shoe is more stable. Which is good as all the cushioning is with a relatively high stack height. Lockdown is better but the laces are fidely. Got a pair of Xodus Ultra recently as my first pair of trail running shoes thanks mainly to your glowing reviews of them. Went out today with them for a first run and really enjoyed them immensely. They’re comfortable with great cushioning and grip especially on the steep ascent and descent on the rocky dirt trail. I also appreciate the wider toe box and rock plate which made the run a pure joy
Your socks always make me chuckle 😂 I'm seriously tempted by the XU2, however I am also praying to the gods that the new Nike Ultrafly is going to be a decent trail option, and yes I know Nike have failed badly in the past with their trail options but come on we live in hope 😜 Good first impressions though Loyd, be interested to see the update video after you have a good few more miles in them as well.

This is good news thus far, I love my current pair of Xodus Ultra's. My biggest issue with Saucony, across all models, are their upper designs...they are either fantastic or just boring/horrible. This version looks like a big improvement in that category.
Wow what a beautiful place Loyd! And im glad to hear that your favourite shoe is even better now. Is it still with these elastic laces? It sounds great that the mid foot locks better in V2, that was a problem for me in the first version. Any chance of the mid foot any wider now?
I love my Saucony road shoes but the Xodus Ultra v1 just wouldn't lock down on my mid foot putting all the pressure where the laces were tied, this review sounds like that issue has been resolved 🤞
@@Run4Adventure Yep. Devil of the Highlands is entered and they will be my shoe of choice again. They were awesome on the lakeland50. Really seems like a great shoe, one that is very similar to the Ride 15 TR, but how would you say the Xodus Ultra 2 compares to the Salomon Sense Ride 5? Great review as always Lloyd!
It's a great shoe Chad but I wouldn't say it's like the Ride 15TR? The Xodus Ultra 2 is an out and out tail shoe that's designed for that environment. Where as the Ride 15TR is just a road shoe with a different outsole 🤔 I've actually got a pair of Sense Ride 5's on the way so I'll let you know. Hope you're fit and well and training hard, thanks for watching 🙏
I really enjoy the reviews Lloyd! I’m very close to getting these, but I’m also curious how they compare to the Sense Ride 5’s and also the Trabuco 11’s….? I’ve had the Trabuco 9’s and Max, both being really forgiving to the old lower legs, not to mention the amazing grip of their outsole! These ASICS have really helped cure plantar fasciitis that I probably got from my more technical Salomon’s…and flip-flops.😉
@@petejr7583 It sounds like the Asics Gel Trabuco has worked well for you in the past so it might be best sticking with it? I personally prefer the Xodus Ultra, it fits my foot shape better and I find the midsole cushioning is more comfortable than the Trabuco 👍 Hope this helps Peter and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I've just run around 30 miles in original Xodus and comparing to SG5, Traifly 300 Max, the fit is the best. Just as much soft, lugs are awesome also for muddy terrain. I agree with ankle irritation, just a small one sometimes in technical terrain, but not an issue. Ankle/tongue area could be softer, wish to try Xodus 2 :) I went 1.5cm up as similar shoes, heel lock is great, so far I just feel the flex point is a little bit different comparing to my Altra LP for example, just full-size would be ok probably also, will see after more miles. New version's design looks better :)
Thanks for the video. I like the Xodus Ultra 1 but I wish they made a size 13.5! I'm wearing the Xodus Ultra 2 right now and they are noticeably more snug in the forefoot and tighter in the toebox. I haven't run in them yet, however. I like a tighter shoe and am not a big fan of the wide toebox phenonemon, FWIW. I think V2 will give a more snug ride than V1, for sure.
It's tricky for the brands when it comes to bigger sizes. I worked in running shoe retail for 10 years and I think I only sold 2 or 3 pairs of men's shoes bigger than a uk13! I really can't notice a lot of difference when it comes to with in the toe. Don't forget a new shoe will always feel more fitted and a bit narrower because it hasn't been run in yet 👍 Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy your shoes 🙏
Great review! I’ve been running in the Peregrine 13’s for a while & think they are a great trail shoe, only downside for me is anything above a half marathon distance & you’d feel the fatigue under foot as the comfort would take a knock on anything above that distance. As the colour way is much better on the V2, I think I’ll get a pair of these. Are they out soon?
If, like most trail runners, the colour of your shoes becomes irrelevant after a couple of muddy runs, the original Lurid Nuclear Yellow ones are available online now for less than £80 which is a bargain in anyone's language. In fact, that's what I am off to do now.......
Is the sole any good on short wet grass? Lugs on Hoka speedgoat 5s were absolutely lethal in the wet on short grass - never had anything like it - like wearing road shoes! Also, go a size up? And are they wide fitting? Thanks for the great content as usual loyd ;-)
I’ve never had any issues with the Xodus Ultra 2 on wet grass. I did go through the fit of the shoes on the video? I found true to size like most Saucony shoes so I went for my usual uk9.5 and I’d say toe box width is averages. Obviously the lug is shallower on the Xodus compared to the Speedgoat. If you do a lot of running on wet grass you want a shoe with a more aggressive lug depth and pattern? Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍
I’ve only just got a pair of these this week. I’ve done around 15 miles in them in both wet and dry conditions. My only minor gripe is they did feel a little slippery on the tarmac road transitions between trails in the wet. It could be that they just need to wear in a little. I had a similar problem with the Noverblast TR. overall though probably my best looking shoe in my rotation 👟
Hi Loyd, only took up trail running a year ago. Love the channel. Got some Peregrine 11s last year and have enjoyed them but I'm upping my mileage and they were a bit firm for long runs on compacted dirt tracks and coastal paths. Was thinking of getting something squishier but then I got knee problems with some max cush road shoes so not sure. What recommendations would you have for a shoe that's more cushioned than a P11 but not too mushy. I've been looking at Xodus Ultra. Thanks.
Really gkad you're enjoying the channel, thanks for watching 🙏 That can happen in very cushioned running shoes, it's a bit of a myth that cushioning helps our knees! I think the Xodus Ultra would definitely be worth a try. It's definitely softer than the Peregrine 11 and very comfortable over long distances but it's not over cushioned. Hope this helps and you find a shoe that's great to run in 🙏
the Xodus Ultra was a real disappointment, making my ankle bleed in the first 5k, that put me off it and saucony all together, so the ankle update is welcome, I might give another go
Hi How dose this shoes compare to the ride 15 tr. I am looking for a new trail shoe to replace my peregrine 12s. I currently mostly run 5k park runs on wet fields and byroads. I find the peregrines pull my achilles. A little but I think that’s due to the road shoes I have come with higher drop numbers? I normally run road or flat hard pack field in ride 15s or triumph 20s. I’m also upping my weekly mileage as booked in for the great south run. New to running so a little help would be great Thanks and keep up the great vids
Very cushy shoes, but in all the reviews I watched and read before buying a pair not once did I see mention of the fact that the laces will come loose roughly once every quarter mile. I have never seen such a thing, and I find it hard to believe Saucony didn't witness this behavior unless they didn't field test the shoes at all. I ordered replacement laces with a slide lock (like Salomon's) because a cushy shoe is useless if you're stopping every couple minutes to mess with them.
I’ve just run Ultra x 110 Scotland in the Xodus Ultra 2 and I didn’t have to re-tie my laces once over the two days? 🤔 I haven’t had any issues with the laces, that’s why I didn’t mention it in my reviews 👍
@@Run4Adventure not calling you out for it, just leaving a comment for potential future buyers. I’ve never had this happen on any other shoes and I’ve worn various sauconys in particular for nearly 15 years.
Would an interesting Vs video be something like SAUCONY XODUS ULTRA 2 vs Hoka Mafate Speed 4. Both seem to be "comfy but responsive shoes aimed at going long & somewhat quick." I have a set of the mafate's but looking for the right shoe for the Lakeland 100 coming up later this year.
Somewhere in the middle Karen. Obviously not as wide as an Altra and a bit more width compared to Salomon's 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Did you find the toe box of the xodus2 a bit narrower than last year's version? I've notice in some images online where they did a top view side by side comparison and the toe box looks slightly more narrow.?
When you look at the two shoes together it does look a bit narrower in the two in the 2's. However, when I was running in them it didn't feel any different to the original Xodus Ultra. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
A really good shoe for ultratrails. But the mesh is poor. My first pair didnt last the whole TDS. My second pair last for about 100 miles. Thats not good at all.
Recently bought Peregrine 12 ST and really disappointed. Very poor grip on wet rocks and surfaces, strange fit of the upper and one of the laces supports broke in my third training with them. I’ returning them to the seller. Seems that Saucony still behind other Trail brands, especially the outsole grip not what i expected at all.
The outsole grip isn't great on the ST version when it comes to wet rock, this is why I'd always go for the standard version Francesco. I think the depth of the lug really affects grip on wet rock in a bad way unfortunately! 🤔 The outsole is a lot more consistent on the standard Peregrine 👍 Thanks for watching.
I did say in the video that the midsole and outsole are exactly the same as the original shoe Lun 👍 I've heard a few people mention the lack of grip on wet rock but I've never had any issues with that 🤔
Grip differs from stone to stone obviously...had the same discussion about wet grip with my Peregrine 10, I never had any problems (southern Germany) while the other guy (USA) had quite some slips...
@@Thefifaplayeryant It's definitely down to difference types of rock in different areas 👍 The grip on the Peregrine 10's was great as long as it was the standard version, the ST wasn't great 🤔
FYI - I am hearing reports that the v2 has a smaller toe box than the v1, which may annoy some, but its also reported that the midfoot brace creates a more secure feeling. I still think I will opt for the v1 myself, but god, how I wish Saucony would employ better shoe stylers -- I think their current staff are all colour blind. Imagine a shoe that ran and felt as good as most Sauconys but has Asics styling / colour selection :)
yeah i've been thinking why the styler is still employed 😂. neon green, pink, all blue, that shiny thing in endorphin pro 3 just to name a few. they need to hire a new one.
I’m a yank, but ready to buy a caravan and drive to Cornwall. Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing Lloyd.

Very interested. Are you doing a full review on the Trabuco Max and the Ultra Glide 2. I need one of these three shoes 🫶🏻🏃🏻♀️👍🏻
I've got a pair of the Ultra Glide 2's on the way Rob but I'm not sure about the Trabuco max 🤔
@@Run4Adventure Thanks for the reply Loyd, appreciated 👍🏻 Look forward to your upcoming videos, always enjoy your content. Keep up the good work 👏🏻🫶🏻
I do love my version 1. Loyd, how much space do you have between your big toes and the end of this shoe ?
Awesome video again Lloyd, how do these fit do you need to go half a size up ? Thanks mate ❤
Thanks Jake, glad you enjoyed the video. I found them true to size 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks for getting back to me mate 🤙❤️
Great review! How does the Xodus Ultra 2 compare to the Brooks Catamount 2 now?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video Anil. I haven't run in the new Catamount so it's impossible to say, sorry 🤷♂️
Thanks for watching 🙏
Difference to Peregrine 13?
Hi Loyd, only took up trail running a year ago. Love the channel. Got some Peregrine 11s last year and have enjoyed them but I'm upping my mileage and they were a bit firm for long runs on compacted dirt tracks and coastal paths. Was thinking of getting something squishier but then I got knee problems with some max cush road shoes so not sure. What recommendations would you have for a shoe that's more cushioned than a P11 but not too mushy. I've been looking at Xodus Ultra. Thanks.
Really gkad you're enjoying the channel, thanks for watching 🙏
That can happen in very cushioned running shoes, it's a bit of a myth that cushioning helps our knees! I think the Xodus Ultra would definitely be worth a try. It's definitely softer than the Peregrine 11 and very comfortable over long distances but it's not over cushioned. Hope this helps and you find a shoe that's great to run in 🙏
Thanks - love my current pair. These new uppers look nice.
No worries Alan, glad you're enjoying your Xodus and thanks for watching 🙏😊
the Xodus Ultra was a real disappointment, making my ankle bleed in the first 5k, that put me off it and saucony all together, so the ankle update is welcome, I might give another go
Hi
How dose this shoes compare to the ride 15 tr.
New to running so a little help would be great
Thanks and keep up the great vids
I haven’t had any issues with the laces, that’s why I didn’t mention it in my reviews 👍
Both seem to be "comfy but responsive shoes aimed at going long & somewhat quick."
I have a set of the mafate's but looking for the right shoe for the Lakeland 100 coming up later this year.
I'll see what I can do Ellis 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
same forefoot width? i could go half size down with v1 for precise length but only wear thin socks
Hi Loyd, one question, fits the Ultra 2 in the same way the the Ultra? Do you have both shoes in the same size ?
Andy
Yeap, I've got the Xodus Ultra and the Xodus Ultra 2 in a uk9.5 👍
Great review thanks. But could you say how it compares to Altra and Salomon re width, as remember you sayi g you have a fairly narrow foot?
Somewhere in the middle Karen. Obviously not as wide as an Altra and a bit more width compared to Salomon's 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Has the toe box space decreased in this version?
So, Xodus Ultra 2 or Peregrine 15 or Ride 15 TR? and why?
For you Sir who is better v1 vs v2?
Any chance you reviewing the brooks Catamount 2 anytime soon?
I'll see what I can do? 🤔
Would this be the off-road version of the triumph?
Hii i am from India
After 2 months I have Indian Army's 5 kilometer running.
But my ankle is having pain. How do I fix my ankle. Please advise🙏🙏🙏🥺
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
it seems to me that the new grid is similar to the one that Peregrine 11 had. Is it so? It was a great grid... not like Peregrine 12👎....
A really good shoe for ultratrails. But the mesh is poor. My first pair didnt last the whole TDS. My second pair last for about 100 miles. Thats not good at all.
Curious I am at 450 miles on my Xodus Ultras, how far have you pushed it on 1 pair?
Im around 400miles in mine. The tred has worn a lot quicker in these than my Peregrine 12's which is strange as I think it's the same compound. Yours?
I'm at around 400 miles in my first pair and they're still going strong! Thanks for watching Martin 🙏😊
How does the shoe compare to the Endorphin Edge?
Is the new upper material comfortable? I like to go sockless dunno if the new upper is as comfortable on foot and the previous?
I never run sock less Nicky so it's impossible to say? 🤔
I definitely wouldn't want to run on the trails without socks here in the uk 😲
So has the xodus got the edge over the peregrine?
Recently bought Peregrine 12 ST and really disappointed. Very poor grip on wet rocks and surfaces, strange fit of the upper and one of the laces supports broke in my third training with them. I’ returning them to the seller. Seems that Saucony still behind other Trail brands, especially the outsole grip not what i expected at all.
The outsole grip isn't great on the ST version when it comes to wet rock, this is why I'd always go for the standard version Francesco. I think the depth of the lug really affects grip on wet rock in a bad way unfortunately! 🤔
The outsole is a lot more consistent on the standard Peregrine 👍
Thanks for watching.
Peregrine 13 vs XU2?
It's close now, I need more time running in both shoes to make my mind up 🤔
@@Run4Adventure I will and along with many, be eagerly waiting for your comparison and what one you would choose. Thanks!
🤔 this or the newest Caldera??
To be honest I'm not a fan of the Caldera so I'd go for the Xodus Ultra ever time 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
tell me please what are they in width in the forefoot compared to Peregrine 12?
I'd say the Xodus Ultra has a little bit more width in the toe Alex but it's only slight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thanks for your work! And what about upper toe grid? What about durability?
The midsole look same as 1? XU1 outsole not good on wet stone😵💫
I did say in the video that the midsole and outsole are exactly the same as the original shoe Lun 👍
I've heard a few people mention the lack of grip on wet rock but I've never had any issues with that 🤔
Grip differs from stone to stone obviously...had the same discussion about wet grip with my Peregrine 10, I never had any problems (southern Germany) while the other guy (USA) had quite some slips...
@@Thefifaplayeryant
It's definitely down to difference types of rock in different areas 👍
The grip on the Peregrine 10's was great as long as it was the standard version, the ST wasn't great 🤔
All I can say is phew mate. 😅
It's still a great trail shoe mate 👌😊
#welovesaucony 😂 🙏👍
Why does he always yell at the camera? It's not "energetic" but annoying to listen to
Not sure I'm yelling Ron, it's called passion! Sorry if I'm not boring enough for you 😊
Bit rude, I personally think he does a great job
@@marcushowell4031 Cheers Marcus 🙏
Come on no need for the disrespect!!! I believe he is one of the better running youtubers.
This guy somehow sounds like he's screaming even when he's just talking.
Not really sure what you mean? 🤔
