This is a well thought out list. Another tip might be: It's never too late to start. Start off small. It has to start somewhere. It may as well be today! Cheers 🇬🇧
Excellent video Dave, how about candle powered lanterns? We've got 6 and about 1500 IKEA tea light candles, it takes a while to accumulate that many but they're definitely worth thinking about.
@@theurbansurvivalist1141 I was also going to mention mres, I know they cost but in SHTF you can eat without having to cook and there's no food smell to give you away. You could always recommend Selco's book too as new peppers would have a very good idea of what to expect if they read it.
Yep good one imo. One thing I always post on these videos is to look at what you already have and can things be dual purposed. My favourite is cordless tools/batteries. They're very common these days and most brands have multiple skins that are available for them. One battery can then be used as a torch, lantern, radio, USB charger etc etc. Find a way to charge them and you have covered a few bases. It's not a cheap way to do it but you're using what you have and don't need to stock all sorts of batteries or whatever for multiple things either. Maybe I'm just trying to justify the fact that I have too many batteries and tools though. Thanks for the video.
@@theurbansurvivalist1141 Cheers. I started off with tools for DIY projects and now have garden tools and lights etc. We use the lights nearly every night. They also go camping with me as does a small electric chainsaw for firewood etc. They make all sorts of stuff these days.
@@theurbansurvivalist1141 Yeah I have a folding solar cell that I can take camping but the 12v charger for the batteries is a rip off imo. Maybe a small inverter off a battery I have and the solar will be the go. They even do coolers/freezers for the brand I have running off these batteries but they're expensive for what they do. I'm just watching your allotment video. Always been intrigued by them as they seem such an English thing. Haven't really heard of them here in Australia but I'm sure there are community gardens around. Interested to hear how it works and see it as time goes by.
@@oldbloke204 yeah allotment growing is good we do well we are in the 5th year and have done better than people with bigger land plots etc but tbh the weather here is awful
If you are looking for a water filter, go for a "known" brand, one with a proven track record. AVOID the cheap and cheerful ones from places like China or sites like TEMU - your life could depend on this bit of equipment. Also as a test, keep a track of how much water you (and the family) consume or use in a 24hr period and use that as a benchmark for the amount to store. In hot weather, or when I'm working, my own consumption is 8lt per day - nearly 2.5 times the recommended amount 😞
@@theurbansurvivalist1141 Sorry bud, it was aimed at your viewers, not you. I should have made that clear 😞 I have seen on a forum, that a "prepper" was pushing a Chinese no brand "filter" that he got from TEMU and it scares me that a newbie see's that and follows suit
Buy once, Cry once is a very good way to go with most purchases imo. I would rather have less stuff but good quality gear rather than heaps of cheap stuff.
