I'm putting a lot of my bowling balls at 3000 grit. It seems that they roll well on the fresh, and the ball lane shines at about the same rate as the lane transitions, and I often do not have to move more than a couple of boards during a 3 game league.
Looks like each ball has its ideal place to be played. Think I'd start with the road and transition to other as I migrate left. The truth is, with today's house shot, you don't really have to move too much.
I drilled up a road (4x4x2) and took a 500 grit pad, brought it back up to 3000 polish and I have to say I wasn't impressed, the road didn't do much on fresh or broken down lanes at my alley. So much hype for this ball and it just didn't deliver. I'm very excited to throw the lighting tomorrow in league and see what it does. going to follow your direction Luis, ordered another one and going to scuff it and bring it back to 3k polish, so I'll have one shiny and one with surface.
You beat me to it. LBO is a great choice for a last ball out of the bag not the top of the bag. Or definitely during leagues where you have 4 people on a lane burning it up quick. It seems like many reviewers are trying to make this a LBO more like the VEBO or DNA Coil, which it was not designed to be. The polished surface is kind of the point of the ball design, if you want a weak ball with a strong surface there are better choices.
For The Road, I ditched the polish and followed Storm’s process for 4k (not 4k fast). It has become my dead-middle of the bag ball. I either ball down to the Lightning Blackout or ball up to the Optimum Idol.
Just curious, weren’t these balls designed for breakdown or transition? Not trying to be contradictory, but I feel like a “test” would be throwing them against each other on burn. Since that was what the design intent was. Just curious since this seems like it’s on fresh.
In about amonth or so when new balls come out, I'm sure he'll start raving about the next new balls being the best thing since sliced bread, and the lightning blackout will just be forgotten.
Thanks for this one Luis. I prefer darker pieces, so the Lightning Blackout would be my preference. I think putting some surface on these guys is a good move to even out the overall hook so the action is easier to control.
I’ve seen a couple 2 handers throw the road and be very successful with it. I’m in a higher friction house. Trying to talk a friend of mine into the lightning for a step down from his eternity pi
neither one of the balls are reading the way you want them too as your hand is on top of the ball and spinning it, you can see it in your release. I know you are working on your game and hand position, but to get a true read off it you need to get behind the ball and your fingers below the equator. Keep working, your reviews are great for all to see.
I had the road, i was not impressed. I felt it overlapped with my vebo on my lanes but it was just weaker and did not work for my conditions. Now that i am rebuilding my arsenal my vebo will not be in my bags but i am looking for something for the spot before i go down to my iq tour. Maybe i will try the lightning black out but right now I think i will just go back to my zen gold lable, restore it and use it until it burns our or until a new good transition / burn ball comes out.
For my eyes, i think both of these look like TOO much shine was taken off. The Road has zero chance of coming back and reacting from those angles with as sanded as you made it. I ran the gamut with surfaces on both my Night Road and my ZGL, and for both of them, i found that a pretty aggressive sanding WITH POLISH was the ticket. Im talking 500 or 1000 range with polish. They both went from "mehhh" status to being the absolute TITS! I think The Road would see similar benefits from a treatment like that.
Luis, that looks like the Road was burning up? Try that comparison again but leave the Road with polish?

I put 3000 on my pearl and hybrid when I bowl 2nd shift and it’s the perfect ball motion for me

I have a Night Road, Hustle Camo, Gold Label and a Hyroad so neither of these 2 are going to be an upgrade or replacement for what I already have.

It all depends on the bowler and the surface.
I love my road. Super clean and sharp off the spot. Don’t know why the lighting is an extra $30.

The road for me is insane downlane, it hook and hit with conviction, got way more 9 pin than 10 pin...
Lightening looks good
