Coder, you are definitely smart enough to be a grey name but you have to beat chaos max no grey name would be so confident that their opponent isn’t playing chaos max and then lose to it
Jokes on you he is Grey named now
"But it says in hand."
I'm glad you know how to read. Now, read the rest of the card, if you please.
I love how your editor zooms in on your text whenever you're misspelling something
I'll be honest it's become a big joke at this point just how BAD I am at typing LMAO
@@DistantCoder brah you read a write both english and french, give ur self a break.

@@DistantCoder It's honestly probably why people don't take you at your ruling as well as say NMan in this video. lol
It's actually a well-known behavior. Ever seen a woman ask for a manager, have the manager say the same thing, and then she completely accepts it? It's a thing with authority levels. They don't see you as the same level of authoritative voice and thus your "correctness" is more suspect to them than someone with more authority, who must be more likely to be correct by their attaining a higher position.
this is SOOO true. i was a shift supervisor at a gamestop for a few years anf i knew my stuff. the number of times i was asked to get a "real" manager was insane. btw in my small town i was the ONLY employee in the building so i was manager on duty and had full authority to do what was needed.
Thats kinda of an appeal by authority but done accidentaly instead of maliciously

0:20 Narrator: "that was his first mistake"
Everyone’s talking about why DistantCoder is not a gray name, but I’m just enjoying the wholesomeness of the first judge call. When the judge rules, Red takes it in stride and accepts the ruling.
"Use is simple"
Proceeds to give vague list of examples that qualify as used that is too specific to fully list
I remember how I had to explain to my friend that dark hole doesn't target and his argument was technically it targets everything because how would you destroy something if you're not targeting it
This comment , I felt this
one time went to a decently big local that was hosted in a mall . To the point I had summoned azure eyes (one of the synchro blue eyes monsters for those who aren’t familiar with the card) the turn prior the card states as follows *yes word for word* ima purposely put marks and bold size the key words lol
“When this card is special summoned you control . The guy really tried to fight it after he dropped black hole despite even looking at the card and seeming like he read it after I summoned . Took the judge nearby less then a minute to solve the issue lmao 😂
I wonder if the mischief of the gnomes player came from another game. I play Legends of Runeterra and in that game if you temporarily reduce the cost of a unit in hand and then play it, it keeps that reduced cost as long as it's on board. Which matters sometimes because some cards have a restriction of only being able to target units with specific costs.
You know... if the "Mischeif of The Gnomes" only applied to the cards when they are in the hand like the guy claimed, then wouldn't that imply that if you summoned the card it would revert to its original level on the feild too???
*Meaning, the exosisters would be level 4, REGARDLESS of whether he's wrong or not!*
He's the incarnation of the _"putting a stick in their own bike wheel"_ meme!
Now that would be funny. 🦭
The way I understand it he thinks the "this turn" only applies to the "reduce the Levels of all monsters in each player's hand by 1", but not to the "(even after they are Summoned/Set)" coming right after it. Which is very very stupid.
@@sebastianpfau1174 Yeah... I was there on steam while it happened, and the shitshow was even better than the video shows xD
If it works the way you explained it would be useless as it could reduce the cost for tributes and stuff and even benefits your opponent more than you
@@Kristoff384 honestly only one possible use either stopping very specific fusions or making ritual summoning harder which is not much.
to those that say coder isnt grey and are shocked: this is exactly why. If he was green, he wouldn't get content like this!
I dont get it. How does the color of his name affect the quality of his content?
@@tmoney1487 You can't appeal grey names on DB
@@tmoney1487 Pretty much what Tanaka said. These pepegas wouldn't think about questioning a grey name, because there would be no point. The videos would be pretty boring.
I wonder if the guy from the gnome match would understand if coder used "cost down" or "level conversion lab" as examples of cards that return to their level at the end phase. If they refuse to read "this turn", maybe the key word "in end phase" would grab his attention
I also thought of "Cost Down" as a way to explain how this form of level modulation. It's worded different but effectively does the same thing and would probably help in that situation.
Well, "This Turn" and "In End Phase" are different that's why they are used separately. Some effects can be used during End Phase too
This has some real "I want to speak to your manager" energy here.
NGL, Kevin. Your explanation of Mischief of the Gnomes was perfect. Clear and concise.
What surprises me is not that players are this stupid, but the fact that Coder isnt a grey already
"Play" or "Use" are really confusing terms on OG cards.
My favorite example is Cold Wave in Edison.
People struggle a lot trying to understand why you can't activate Royal Oppression under CW.
Oddly enough, konami released an errata explaining clearly what "play" meant (i.e. cannot activate the card of their effects); after some months they released a new errata using again the word "play" without any explanation.
Nice job Konami.
I think they specifically did that so you could have the original text for edison events, no?
I literally had my opponent call the judge to clarify he cannot use golden lord after I declared it with prohibition during Europe Championship. Played Pure Punk but Prohibition is my goto spice as a side card. So funny to see the same scenario on Coders channel haha.
if you tribute a spell you can summon master peace under prohibition, that's exactly how the card works
@@mbrusyda9437 im making a joke
Seeing gnomes makes me remember the time farfa used it against speedroid and it basically did nothing.
Always funny when they appeal the rules of yorgioh
You doing judge calls is so fun to watch.
Omfg coder I was there for this and omg that was frustrating even sitting and watching lmao.
"DarkLawyer" decided to rules lawyer in the dumbest way possible
that's why he is a dark lawyer
Coder, I'm in love with your channel. The judge calls are always the best content!
There was a judge interview at farfas subathon, which is available on his UA-cam channel as well, where the judge basically gave the advice to always appeal. Maybe these db guys did not get that this was advice for bigger events...
He didn't say you should always appeal. He said you should appeal if either 1) you're pretty sure the floor jusdge gave an incorrect ruling or 2) it's a "he said, she said" Situation and you think the head judge might handle it differently
Imagine appealing and wasting time when you already think youre wrong. Thats just gonna piss the judges off at you i feel if every time you have one come over to the table to just appeal them. This is especially true when it comes to DB, youre not even competing for prizes its fake internet points.
"This turn" i literally the FIRST 2 WORDS OF THE TEXT XD
Believe me, having worked with stupid people for a long time, I’ve learnt that you cannot make them read in their own volition. I have to walk them through an entire paragraph (even sentence) for them to understand me.
“This turn” is a very uncommon thing to read from the beginning of a card effect in Yugioh which is probably why it flew over the player’s head. It’s highly probable that they aren’t even a native speaker. So when they cannot find an “until the end of this turn” phrase, then they immediately thought the card effect was indefinite.
I have no idea what being a YGO judge is like but I DO know what it's like to explain something plainly, have it ignored, someone else says the EXACT SAME THING that I did, and then suddenly it's an acceptable explanation. Oof.
To be fair, if mischief worked like that guy assumed, it would be perfectly in line with how some janky cards work
It’s like dealing with old people. Having to explain it more then twice
Serious question, why isn't Coder a gray name? He has taken the most calls, is very recognized, and is known for giving accurate and fair rulings. He has absolutely earned the prestige.
He wouldn't get free content from people shouting "APPEEEEEEAL!" at him any more if that was the case.
some players need an explanation of what some effects, or even some summon conditions do. Some examples: one summoned exodius without having any monster in gy. I told him he can't do that because he doesn't have monsters in deck to return to deck. His reasoning? "i have 0 monsters in gy, so i return 0 monsters in deck". Another time i played against a ghostick deck while i had a token. He used sealing swords to set my monsters in order to be able attack directly, but because i had the token, he couldn't do it, so was going from "set it" to "remove from the field" back and forth, while i was telling him to use an effect that remove it or attack it. Another time i attacked with michion ( the timelord that halve the opponent's lp) and he activated an effect to a response to a damage effect. i told him again and again that michion doesn't inflict damage because it doesn't say "inflict"and even i brought examples of cards that changes lp like life stream and life equalizer, but that guy was "it's an effect an opponent that reduces my life points" so it's damage effect. i swear, some would need to have pot of greed from (draw 2 cards) to (take 2 cards from the top of your deck and place them to your hand. This is a draw).
I love these ruling video coder
"but the card says hand, not field"
Me: "By your logic, their monsters revert to their original level once they hit the field, so your argument is invalid"
8:34 Welcome to the Manager effect
The way I would've explained it to darklawyer is that "they remember that they reverted back to level 4" lmao
Lol the one with the appeal reminds me of a call I took. I explained the customer that what she wanted cannot be done. Did not like the answer, cussed me out and hung up. She called back and my coworker told her the samething. Word for word and thank him and hung up
The good old "I didn't get the answer I want so I will appeal" strat
How i understand Prohibitions "use": The Card cannot be placed on the Field in ANY way. It can be used by other Cards(like discarding as Cost, banishing from Grave as Cost, etc.) but its own Effect from Hand, Grave, etc. cant be activated.
Edits from Comments below for things i missed:
It cant be used as Material from Hand for Fusion, Ritual or other Extra Deck Summons.
Forgot the Extra Deck exists while writing this tbh
Anything else i missed?
it can't be used as a material for fusion/ritual from the hand (but if the X card is already on the field when prohib was activated, that specific X card on the field can be used as material for fusion, synchro, link and etc.
Presumably you can't Synchro with it from hand either, like with a Tatsunoko type effect
It can't be used as material.
The "Cannot be used text" also applies to mechanics like Changing the battle position and attacking, which would realistically only ever come up when a card is changing it's name such as Blue eyes Alternative and Prisma.
I thought "use" just covered summoned and activations. I had zero idea it couldn't be used as material for extra deck summons.
That person was definitely trying to shark and hoping the appeal judge would rule incorrectly
Coder : " Card says this turn so it only aplyes for that turn "
Red : ,,In hand tho!! I want to appeal "
Coder : "K"
Other judge: "Card says this turn so it only aplyes for that turn "
Red : " Thank you for explaining properly have a nice day ! ❤️"
Coder : 😳😳😳😳😳😳😐
Well I think his wording is better because he explained that "The effect is still applied after it was not in the hand, then it stops applied after new turn" all of that in the *same essay.
People sometimes does not have an ability to make an understanding of what other parties says before.
God could you picture that Gnome card working the way the guy thought it did. Like you have to remember which monster in your GY is now a changed level when you have 2 copies of it
lesson of the day is always listen to gray. Gray my boy coder or we riot.
we could use red layer as synchro material from hand after being searcherd of isolde in infernoble
Should have just told the guy "The (in the hand) text only applies to the selection of the monster(s) receiving the card's effect. Not the effect itself."
That probably would have cleared the misunderstanding in a flash.
Gnomes is a pretty funny Spright counter tho
I like the judge call videos
If you like to used prohibition, it is compulsory to used fengsheng mirror to check what card your opponent have. The best part of prohibition if your know what deck opponent play your can declare card that will for sure become part of the combo not necessarily card in their hand, example your see Branded fussion using fengsheng mirror then declare mirrorjade, your see dinosaur declare miscellneosaurus because is misc is the main dino combo and etc. However if have fengsheng mirror only without prohibition together andyour brick, scout opponent hand and their have combo play, then your can surrender in MD no need play as your know already your guarantee 100% lost the match.
"Reading is Fundamental" -Eddie Griffin
Coder: I want to appeal a decision of another judge for saying the same thing I said
I don't understand how you can judging seems like massive ball ache
"Appeal"
Basically demand that Konami changes the rules for me.
Actually you can ritual summon under prohibition, because it tributes the monster by level and doesn't "use" it
He's right about the fusion tho.
Ritual summon the declared card or using it for cost?
@@mbrusyda9437 using it for cost is what I meant sorry
so the Level Change is undone after the turn ends, then they can go into the XYZ.
it's good for stopping someone during that turn just by lowering even 1 monsters LvL
It's just like when a retail worker explains something to a customer and then they ask you to call the Manager just so the Manager can tell them the same Thing and be like for sure understandable
Asking a Yugioh player to read… that’s like asking a cow to fly
I thought the guy was asking the second effect of gnomes which can revert opp card to lvl one again, maybe he used it first on the trap on his own turn and then on the opp turn he banish the card to revert it again. But I don't have the whole context/what happened so I think I'm wrong
Now guys BACK TO THE STREAM!!!❤

4:14 Obviously would never happen (outside of whatever a certain Star of dawn comes up with next) but can you reveal Blue Eyes (vanilla) for Alternative under Prohib if Blue Eyes (vanilla) was called by it?
Judge didn't side with me, appeal
At this point if they appeal, just type back Content lol
They don't believe him because he is ruling against them. In that situation that player is always incentivised to appeal because it cannot make their situation worse but there is always a chance it will improve it.
I love these vids
Coder about to appeal the players decision to accept the ruling
Thanks coder for revealing new card to me,i use prohib second turn based on what i know is in enemy graveyard to block its returns now or the ultimate monsters of opponent decks, jet dragon and dpe are nothing to me now, hehe :)
To be fair with the gnome's ruling Red wasn't in the wrong to appeal per se. It seems like he just genuinely didn't understand how his own card worked and wanted a second input. It also isn't absurd that he would accept the same ruling from a head judge versus receiving it from Coder. The fact of the matter is that when a judge gives a ruling there is the possibility that that particular judge could be mistaken or have given an erroneous ruling whereas if a head judge gives a ruling, erroneous or not, it is for that match absolute. There's no point trying to argue with the head judge. The only times I've ever seem a head judge change a ruling was when the opposing argument was backed with an official link, and I can see why for this specific situation red was much less eager to chirp up when the same words came from the mouth of a head judge. Hell, I'd argue that that's a prime example of respecting authority
Coder needs to learn that you can't argue with stupid people they will drag you down to there level and beat you with experience lol but I still say he has the patience of a saint
That's how these types of videos has all the content though
But arguing with these people is how he gets that sweet YT money.
so that guy in the end there wanted it to be ruled in a way that a monster whose level was reduced by 1 in hand would lose that reduction by being summoned, you know, because "only in hand", rendering the effect of mischief of the gnomes completely useless? am i getting that right?
No he wanted the effect to keep applying from an earlier turn as the monster was summoned as a 3 and for some reason he thought it would stay a 3 after the turn ended. The "in the hand" comments was his way of trying to justify why the effect stuck as he didn't read is card.
what is the rulling in summoning a card that can't be used, for example, prohibit dark magician and trying to summon it from deck or gy
legit question though why do you often use commas as apostrophes (ie: you,re). like maybe this is a dueling book thing and I'm stupid but the comma key is seemingly harder to reach from home row.
03:00 Going off of that, does that mean Golden Lord couldn't be used as cost for a card effect, i.e. Discard Golden Lord for Twin Twister Cost?
No, just the card itself can't do anything. You can't summon it, activate its effect, etc. But you can discard it for the cost of another card, like Twin Twisters. If it's already on the field though, that specific instance ignores prohibition.
He mentions it later, at 4:03, you are still allowed to use them to pay for costs.
The only reason the dude didn't start a fuss with the appeal judge is because he knew that if he did, he'd be smacked with the freeze hammer or punished for it. So he backed down so he could just play the game. Hopefully he understood it and you won't deal with them again.
Mischief of the Yokai > Mischief of the Gnomes
Mischief of the gnomes. If all monsetrs in hand decrease in level for the turn. Is it just the monsters in hand return to thier original level, or all monster on field and hand return to there Original level, and if it only applies to monsters in hand. Monsters that were summoned or set that turn. Do they remain reduced or returne to there original level? I just asking?
They get sent back to their original level regardless where it was played so the minute end phase hits back to normal levels.
Lol If the card is only lvl 3 in the hand it should become lvl 4 immediately once hitting the field with his logic.
It ain't easy being green
DarkLawyer should've just been given a game loss for blatantly and intentionally ignoring the words of a judge.
This turn
The most confusing phrase in Yugioh
I mean they should stick to one terminology to say the same thing the game is complicated enough. Most cards say "until the end phase" which is the same thing as this turn.
Until the end phase is not the same as the end of the turn.
Yugioh Players Reading Challenge gone wrong gone sexual impossible
I feel like that first guy's confusion is reasonable. It's not exactly intuitive that using the effect of the trap to summon is also forbidden in that context. I think "cannot be used" is bad wording.
About this Platform is that YGoPro 2 - Dawn of a new Era [by Kaiba Coporation]?
He agrees with the gray judge because you were awefull at explaining "for content".
Most literate Yugioh player
Survive the Bish combo then you get your grey name 🙃
that gnome issue should have been solved a different way. instead of saying it no longer applies on field instead the explanation should be that this turn applies to the effect not the location. i mean that he was hung up on the part thinking tat this turn was related to hand
But judge the card never said anything about the field. That must mean that the field is still effected. 😂😂😂😂
Your editor did you dirty 😂😂😂
I don't want to be grey name anymore people keep thinking I'm stupid cuts video 😂😂😂😂😂
8:20 no one reads the whole card. it literally says that even on the field, they change back. It says that on the card, that you are all not reading. Infuriating^^
Should we ask a gray name to like and subscribe?
I pray for everyone who reads this that whatever they are going through gets better, whatever they are suffering with or worrying about will be okay, and that everyone has a wonderful day.❤
So you're saying if a card says this turn it doesn't work next turn? Appeal.
What game are they playing???
Honestly I think its down to the way things are worded from you - Sounds bad but its nothing on your game knowledge, but sometimes emotion comes through in the explanation.
I have noticed the judges that speak like its professional customer support just get what they said accepted easier - especially when its spoon fed to them like they are five.
Just Read
I honestly feel like he could've explained Mischief of Gs better doe, you could see him getting frustrated during the call very early on 6:36 He should have just said the "This turn" defines the effect, and the "in Hand" describes the target or initial point of application of the effect.
If you were kinder maybe…
Reading! The one weakness of most yugioh players
why does coder use "," instead of " ' " sometimes?
