Awesome vid as always. I love this budget build stuff. Is it mentioned anywhere if and what the bottom end components are? When the motor was rebuilt was it done professionally? Did Kyle build this in his garage or was it done at a machine shop (deck, honed, balanced, micro polished the crank, checked all tolerances etc..? Also what kind of bottom end goodies did you use? Did you go budget (scat / eagle rods vattera / nippon type pistons) or did you go with better quality stuff like Manley / Skunk / CP type stuff? You guys have a build post on any of the forums on everything that's been done? Great job on the vids!!

Im not saying its bad for an ebay turbo but i would think something like a Garrett turbo wouldnt have broken :)
And I’ve seen multiple Garret’s last way less time under way less abuse on multiple cars.
So yeah. Just good in general. Not just good for Ebay.
3 years out of a turbo at 20+ psi without ever been rebuilt/refreshed is solid. let alone a $600 ebay turbo. People think garrets are bullet proof

You need to run the warercooling for the turbo core. With out it the exhaust seals in the turbo takes alot of heat and the ball bearing will fail early.
With watercooling im really sure it would of lasted muuuuuch longer.
Can you take apart the centre bearing and see what failed. That turbo is awesome for the price. I have the exact same one sat next to me right now waiting to go on my car.
Time for a Precision or Garrett so you can really find the limits of that stock block 😁
check your oil pan for bearing balls, i've rebuilt tons of these turbos and they always drop balls through the oil drain

my ebay turbo did same thing after 2 yrs.. my garret has been used and abused over 6 yrs and even sucked a metal filter through and it still rips lol

Not saying this is why the turbo failed, but what reason could there possibly be to not using an air filter? Are there not filters rated for 1000HP that fit that turbo? I doubt there would be even a 1HP loss, and it looks like there's an entire foot of space in front of the turbo intake. I understand it looks cool, but "YOLO" and "sending it" in the end is expensive recklessness. Remember the video of the guy that grenaded his V12 turbo engine because a shop towel got sucked in during a Dyno pull?

Looks like someone sandblasted it and that’s exactly what they did when they ran no air filter.
All that for 5 more hp maybe on a good day.
at the very least I would put a turbo guard. always bugged me that he would run no filter at all, it's not like he has no room for one
Yeah never understood no filter. You are sending all road dust in through the engine . I almost cried when I saw a tear in my filter on my cummins and that's a cast iron engine / with thick liners.

Any time I open something on the intake tract and find a dust streak from unfiltered air, it’s sort of hard to take if you’ve rebuilt enough engines from it!
Most snowblowers don’t use filters either.

Get a Borg Warner or Garrett and it will last you longer than then engine.

i have a tiny tiny IHI RHB4 turbo wich is a third of the size of that one daily driving at 2,5 bars on a diesel car for 4 years now...

Years back I got my self a old gd Mazda 626 turbo the old single cam 2.2 with a 5 speed I ended up doing a t3/t4 eBay turbo front mount 38 mill waist gate lines blow off valve all up them bigs cost me $450 we done 3” stainless intake and bump used the stock mani with a t3 cast welded to the mani I done 60.000k on the cheap turbo some times it would get 20psi. It lived on 14 sold the car still going with the heap turbo on it il do it all again one day I had a new garret on a Nissan and it died with in a few months
You need to put that turbo in showcase. It deserves it!
I'm no expert but I've seen cheap JB turbos last year's at around 15psi-20ish! Like Brent said something probably caused the shaft blowout seen on that last dyno pull. Anyway made nice power beforehand.
turbos are not usually the item to go cheap on. i’m surprised it lasted this long. look into a garrett ball bearing 67mm. its gonna cost around $1500 but it’ll be well worth it and have a quicker spool too.
Get some new headlights soon for the el. Maybe a custom headlight build would be legit with a turbo inlet!
