And Oliver Reed appears to be still imbibing in the afterlife: a couple of years ago his son told a newspaper that nothing would grow on his dad's grave because visitors pour so much booze on it. Apparently The Grave looks like this because that's the way Oliver wanted it to be with no fuss
I met Oliver Reed in about 1982. He was tall and elegant in a striped blazer and bow-tie and was just a little bit drunk. He had a beautiful voice, and was polite and friendly and also extremely funny. A precious memory of a wonderful actor!
@@GraveVisitations If Oliver had not been drinking so much I'd bet you anything James Cameron we've had him play captain Smith instead of Bernard hill.
Oliver Reed was one of my favorite actors, he had an intensity about him that could be seen in the roles he played. I was very happy to see his favorite pub and his modest gravesite, he got his wish to be buried nearby and that must have pleased him. RIP to Oliver Reed 🕊️
The biography of Oliver Reed, 'Evil Spirits,' is well worth a read. He loved England, Guernsey, and Ireland (as your vid makes very clear). He had a great fondness for animals and the rural life. I think he vastly preferred hanging out with local, rural type people than the Los Angeles types. This may have bee a contributing factor to him not getting some bigger roles, but I don't see that as a bad thing. He clearly got a lot of joy out of growing vegetables, working with horses, and drinking in a humble pub.
He was a talented man but drank himself into an early grave. It is so sad how many gifted people leave this life earlier than they should because of addiction.
B.S. living long doesn't mean a good life, it's what you do with it is what counts. I'd rather live a short life full of parting and good times, eating red meat and drinking to exsess, than a long life of mundane bullshit eating kale and tofu. A friend once told me, life isn't a dress rehersal...you only get one go, and if you do it right...once is enough. On the time scale of the universe...who gives a shit?
Apparently your father was not an addict.. Inspite of that he marauder thru life wine, women and song. "No one hurt" as he lived his life. Yep 2 daughters and a wife hurt. One daughter a drunk who had and destroyed her 7 kids lives. Multiple car accidents with other people hurt and others property damaged and destroyed. Remorse heck no he and my sister bragged they did it their way . We won't get into the other kinder souls who had addictions and were hurt . So when you live as a victim of hedonism, addiction, selfishness and acquired victimhood due to failure to grow up, then maybe you have a platform. Some talented people take the gifts they have leaving a void they were supposed to fill. BTW I avoided addiction and have a career and enjoy life clean and sober.
Oliver Reed was a superb actor, a gentleman, a hell raiser and a kind soul, my first memory of him was watching him in a film called Hannibal Brooks, a life well lived, as he wanted to live it

The Great Oliver Reed . So many memories come flooding back from the time I lived in Guernsey and on how he loved to shock people with his capers , On going to a wedding reception where neither my partner nor myself had been invited we sat at Ollies table with his wife Josephine . Opposite sat upon a chair was the present Ollie had bought for the newly married couple, a skeleton of a Bulls head complete with horns, and dangling off each horn was stick on ribbons , turns out he hadn't been invited either , what a crazy night that was , people would come to our table and raise a toast to the bull in acknowledgement ,when the festivities ended, he stood up did a grand bow to the bull and he and his wife left , ah boy, wild days indeed

Thank you very much GV, for a very informative video. I believe, he was in one of the 3 musketeers movies, many years ago. Nice, quiet, peaceful town, and graveyard. Cool looking pub, inside and outside. I really am not a drinking man, but if I were, I would not mind spending my free time in a place like O'Brians. Thank you very much again GV, have a great day. 😊
@Grave Visitations You are welcome, so can I. I can actually picture him, sitting in the pub, all warm and cozy with a good drink 🍸 watching a very bad storm coming down outside. Good job GV, thank you again. 😊
I have always admired Oliver Reed’s work. Thank you for your time. It would have been nice to hear a few words from the Pub owner who kindly allowed the filming of her establishment!
I always think of the westerns when I hear the term “waterhole “ . I think it was originally for animals and then became universally known as a pub , bar .Enjoyed this, thanks
HI GV that was a great story about Oliver Reed. Loved his movies such a pity that his Grave is not kept very well i actually know that place well lovely place to visit never knew about Oliver. Till now a1
It's a shame drink took over him but he was a great actor. I came across your channel while watching Paul on Unusual things. He covers well known graves. Excited to look back and see what you have visited .
Hi Susan thanks for watching. I do mostly old cemeteries and graveyard videos but I do a famous one from time to time check my playlist on famous graves. George Michael, dolores o'riordan etc
It's all anyone ought to need. Unlike so many who ran him down when alive & condemned his behavior when on a tear, his own ego didn't extend so far or carry on so large that he believed he should be lauded & upheld even after his death. One thing he was known for saying was that, "Life should be Lived, ..Always.", & he surely did live his. But when it's over, it's over. I'm not even a Christian, but I'll say it anyway, ...God Bless Oliver Reed.
Michael Winner said…”I wept at his funeral. I was the only person from showbusiness who went. All his so-called friends - Ken Russell, who directed him in all these movies - they couldn't be bothered to go. Terrible”
I was on a plane going to Jersey in the 70's, and he was sat opposite me. He was an unmistakable figure. He sat with his head in "Private Eye" all the journey, though that was from Cardiff airport, which is'nt too far away.
And Oliver Reed appears to be still imbibing in the afterlife: a couple of years ago his son told a newspaper that nothing would grow on his dad's grave because visitors pour so much booze on it. Apparently The Grave looks like this because that's the way Oliver wanted it to be with no fuss

❤️🙏
‘He made the air move’ was a quote said about him by Orson Welles.
Thanks Michael that pub was established in the 1800'S. I can see how he fell in love with the area
Thanks for watching, the pub woman didn't own the pub she just works in premises. She actually didn't want to be on film or talk
Very cool indeed :) What interview is the clip at the beginning from ?
1994 channel 4 interview
Cheers pal.@@GraveVisitations
I always think of the westerns when I hear the term “waterhole “ . I think it was originally for animals and then became universally known as a pub , bar .Enjoyed this, thanks
Thats true clare a real old saying ha. Thank you for watching glad you enjoyed this one 👍
RIP. Unforgettable.
HI GV that was a great story about Oliver Reed. Loved his movies such a pity that his Grave is not kept very well i actually know that place well lovely place to visit never knew about Oliver. Till now a1
I remember he was in the three musketeers and Tommy. I felt bad he died by a heart attack. I wonder what else he could of been in. Rip to him 😔
It's a shame drink took over him but he was a great actor.
Already had a scroll through your video's some fascinating places. I will be watching more .
@@susanbriwn7702 thank you
I love the beginning of the video; The piece to camera description of his own death.
Another brilliant story thanks GV 😊
Thanks Stella
That's a poor grave for a great man. Thank you for showing!!!
That's the way he wanted it apparently
We're All equal once under the Sod I suppose. Rest in peace Oliver.
I'm not even a Christian, but I'll say it anyway, ...God Bless Oliver Reed.
rewatched GV , we call our pubs watering holes too , a great tribute to a wonderful actor ❤
Thanks Julia ❤️

Michael Winner said…”I wept at his funeral. I was the only person from showbusiness who went. All his so-called friends - Ken Russell, who directed him in all these movies - they couldn't be bothered to go. Terrible”
True friends are hard to find
A beautiful graveyard❤ R.I.P.
I was on a plane going to Jersey in the 70's, and he was sat opposite me. He was an unmistakable figure. He sat with his head in "Private Eye" all the journey, though that was from Cardiff airport, which is'nt too far away.
Wow that was super to be on same plane
Einer der besten schauspieler die ich kenne.
