songs dont usually make me cry but this one really got to me man. Like you can just hear the sadness in his voice. its so sad. This is what music should be about
if the studio version wasn't heartbreaking already, peter's vocals really hit even more in this one. the guitars around 4:40 and everything..i wish i got to see this live
Every New Year's Eve (since 2016 I met this masterpiece), I always get away from my friends and the people around, I stand in a perfect corner to watch all the fireworks and on my phone I play this song with the headphones placed, adjusting time song precisely so that the most exciting part (in 6:51) will sound exactly at 12:00am on January 1st. It is the most nostalgic but beautiful sensation, knowing that this song perfectly describes the end of a meaningless past and the beginning of something new.
you may be the only person with the more mentally ill music-related new years eve ritual than me. i listen to earthmover and have the drop at midnight. may try this one next year
Man, I do not care for this interpretation of the song. Like someone else said, it just feels really melodramatic. With his inflections, it's like Peter didn't know what the song was about while he was singing it.
Really late to the conversation, but I'm fine with amping it up to make it a little more epic for a live show, but you're right, the real weight of the song is missing as Peter's wailing abruptly ends on the record and that gorgeous cathartic motif fadeout is so devastating I have to sit in silence for a few moments every time I listen to the album. That is missing, but that's a really personal thing, so I get them changing it up for a live show.

we're all depressed
Lmao
This would have been absolutely transcendental to experience in person.
This is the best live version hands down. His voice is unreal.
what a good, respectful crowd
A good, respectful crowd for a good, respectful band.
7:35-7:50, the best moment to me, i can dream all awake with this sound

And I thought the studio version made me cry...... I'm freaking sobbing right now!!
Still one of the best/saddest performances i've heard. Really wish I can hear them live one time.
This album came out at such a down time in my life, and still holds such a special place in my heart. Beautiful performance of a beautiful song
Absolutely flawless performance. Perfect.

like the record version more tbh. this one feels a little melodramatic.
This is perfect tho….

cool
Robo0595 I think that word, “melodramatic” means absolutely nothing.
Weird
Just slowed down a bit, def not for people who are used to singing along...just listen..
