Nice comparison! I wanted the HPI but since my Dad's '77 Scout II was the first thing I drove I just had to get the mini one. I got out of the mini crawler game right before the Ascent came out, looks like it performs great!
An hpi vs Redcat comparison? Is this a video from 10 years ago? 🤣. All jokes aside I'm happy to see hpi making new trucks and Redcat has been killing my wallet with all their new releases.
Hey guys I just ordered a UCX2405 Pro by UDIRC...It seems promising I'll give it a try with brushless and 4WS. Exocaged RC guy and other RC channels should get it and review it how it stack with other brands.
@ I think it looks nice too, did they have both versions? The yellow one has FOC and Bluetooth esc settings. The other color doesn’t have those things.
Outstanding comparison. Great job. Redcat can get to places yeah...but...HPI got the LOOKS :-) I am torn between Veture 18 or WPL C24 (full metal upgrade) or UDIRC UCX2405 pro. Would you be so kind and give me your opinion of these?
Aside from my love of the International Scout, the fact the HPI is $40 more expensive fro roughly the same performance would shift my choice to the Redcat.
@@Brap690 Sure it is, since the brushed Redcat performed as well as the brushless HPI except in flat-out speed. If the HPI's performance in Exo's small trial had been well above the Redcat's then I'd agree with your statement. In the end, folks will buy the the model they like best for their own reasons.
@@verpine3534the servos on the brushless version are better than the brushed version also. I’d say it’s worth the $40 more if you value any of these: - extra slow crawl control of the brushless - 2speed to use it as a bit of a trail truck - extra lighting and control of the lights - extra scale details (wipers, door handles, mirrors) - straight axles
👍👍 yeah awesome dude I’m watching now 5:59 PM Monday, December 23. I just got my red cat scout2 bummer though the thumb steer not in the package that’s how my luck goes. I got the green one. It is a beautiful rig. I did email red cat about it. I’ll wait and see what happens.
@@joelrodriguez9427 seen problems of parts for redcat . Must be ordered. When i visit my friend i always bring an extra crawler because his redcat electonics fail and he cant buy parts at our lhs. We have some nice places to crawl near the hobby shop. Enjoy this hobby. Started this crawling hobby with scx24.
I did not see anything that keeps me from buying one or the other. Both are nice trucks. Down to personal preference. Wondering if to could sand down the corners " elbows" on the bottom if the portals to improve clearance to improve not getting snagged on something. Sort of like break over done at a slight angle like skid plates. Smoothed and angled to the back.
HPI is Marty McFly’s Toyota from the first Back to the Future. The HPI did well. The Redcat Scout is a good looking rig. I went through the 1/24-1/18 scale rigs. Too toy like. I’ll stick with my 10th scale. If I were to choose Scout because it looks better.
I agree but in some extent I disagree, I love RCs today so many brands and options for any type. I love my 1/10th scale TRX-4 and Redcat Ascent Fusion but when I go to hikes and excursions my SCX24 fits nicely in my camera backpack and it's so light I can have fun after hiking or traveling somewhere in my photo projects instead of lugging my 12+lbs TRX-4 which great fun to drive also but just bigger and heavy.
i have known hpi since the 2000s and google is telling me that it was founded in 1986 in Southern California. In 2016, Ripmax acquired 100% of HPI Racing, including the brand, sales rights, and intellectual property.
@ I don’t know those details but I do recognize that transmission as a Cr18p 2 speed transmission. So I’m sure it’s safe to say that this Venture is based off of the Hobby Plus platform. Just as the Fury Wagon was.
@@DanPRC I’m checking some photos and seeing a lot of similarities here, I am interested in this stuff cause it helps workout where you can spend your money better and what’s potentially compatible parts wise HPI is pretty wild at the moment with how much stuff they make under brands not called HPI I’m not a fan of these deceptive marketing
@ I totally get that. I was a big fan of HPI years ago before they had their issues. Now I’m also skeptical because of the ability to get replacement parts. Amain Hobbies seems to always be a good place to find HPI parts if parts are available. But this truck might be a safe bet because of its HP connection. I’m just not too crazy about this body so I passed on it.
@ I bought a FJ cruiser HPI in 2018, I didn’t like it and put it away after a few weeks. I found it again the other week and did some work to it, went online to see every spare parts either discontinued or out of stock, there’s no mods for it, not even the waypoint which is literally just the same crawler without a licensed body that came out like 2 years ago I was really close to getting this HPI but I didn’t want to be a sucker twice I got a TRX4M this week and I love it
The C Hubs are really not an issue. He was a bit dramatic about it. They’re tucked so close behind the tire that they don’t hit anything. Portals clear a lot more than straight axles.
I dunno man i think to me the gen8 😅 i love how toyota looks but gen8 mini has alot more parts available already and you can slap the IR60 hardbody from injora easy on it also
Great comparison Joe! We already know how good the Ascent18 platform is, and it looks like HPI put out a decent truck too. Not quite as good as the Redcat, but for their first attempt at a mini crawler, they seem to have done a nice job.
I am disappointed in redcat for chosing style over performance. Secondly at this price point we should be getting beadlocks and brushed should be done on all but the Walmart cheepies
I've been wanting for a vid like this. great job!👍
The two speed, the light kit, and the brushless option had me preorder the Toyoya. This will be my backpack main for work breaks and such😂
Not to mention the scale details and extra light buckets.
The steering is a concern, but I'm sure there's a fix for that.
@paulmccarter908 I know for a fact you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!
Myne too! Lol just ordered
Excellent breakdown well done appreciated.
I already bought the redcat the hpi is coming to the local hobby shop too. So i'm buying both
Same here, no complaining. I just want to upgrade and drive.

Me too. Glad to see both in the game.
Where I'm torn right now is Venture Brushless or Ascent 18 w/ Brushless upgrade. Both come to $200.
👍👍😃
I found the redcat can run 3s surprisingly. I decided to try it an it works, I found a gens ace with a jst plug an boom 3s baby no problems
Interesting I have a bunch of 3s 300mah packs and a 400 mah as well with JST plugs for some RC planes. I might have to try them out.

Any plans to test the new 1/12 MJX crawler thing? I’d like to see it have a fair chance and maybe some actual crawler tires on it.
just looked that up, found it at helidirect and man that truck looks nice with the aluminum body and all

1st 'mod' in almost every crawler needs to be to trim or remove the stock bumpers! Cmon manufacturers 🤷♂️
The Scout body looks way better becaude they did funky flares/ wheel openinhgs on the Toyota body .
winner in all around usability is hpi . its a super small rc that can go and do what ever you want with a simple tire change
