Snodland! Love a local shout out, I met Geoff a few weeks ago and heard that story, that made by day, and made it again hearing it in this video :D The railways mean the world to me, my life wouldn't be the same without them, and the RHDR was instrumental in that in my early childhood when my grandparents would bring me. When things get tough, there are always trains; mainline, modern, miniature, model, steam, simulated, scenic, spectacular! Just keep playing trains!
So true about train travel being calming. I had a heart attack 10 years ago and had massive anxiety afterwards. I have an exceptionally clear memory a year or so after the event, on a train from Leeds to London where for the first time since the heart attack I felt calm and happy. It was the catalyst that kicked off an eventual recovery from anxiety. To this day I still take 'pointless' train journeys whe I feel the need to feel grounded. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
A train a day keeps boredom away..... on behalf of Master 3 who is watching this.... I had 10 years on the WRPS (NZ) Waitara railway Preservation Soc before we moved.. 7.5km branch line in its day..from main line to former port and freezing works, now a heritage line.. I haven't seen the famous line here, but been on the Spa Valley and the line based at Matlock.
Like the RH&DR, you three guys are awesome. That was like the "Top Gear" of the railway world, you should make a regular show together visiting preservation lines up and down the country.
The RHDR is 100% my happy place. The bench on the Romney Sands platform is where I used to sit as a child watching locos enter / depart, then heading back off to my caravan in the holiday park to tell me parents what engines I had seen. Sitting on that bench now brings back that same feeling of excitement and comfort, it really is my happy place.
Stayed at Jolly Fisherman in Greatstones on Sea with my mum and dad in 1949 and 1950, think I rode the RHDR just about every day. Last rode in1974.wonderful times! Grand memories!
One of the best videos I have seen for a long time, sums up why so many of use love railways and everything that is part of them. I suffered from stress a hand full of years ago and now I have the occasional day out on the railways relaxing and just enjoying watching trains. Thanks for the great video.
Tim and Geoff thank you for inspiring the next generation. You are both greatly loved presenters. Don't ever forgot you both have a loyal fan base even on your dark days. It would be an honour to meet you both.
I've been to the RH&DR and did a Driver's experience with Diesel No.12! Great little engine and yes it is very important that we talk about these issues and we are one massive awesome community us railway lovers! Also it is advised that Getting Tim and Geoff together will end up with chaos! 😂😂
A lovely film on a very important topic and very professionally made. I have one tiny criticism, however: the voice/music balance was out of whack. I could only hear what was being said by having the volume set so high that the music was enough to wake everyone else in the house - and, I fear, the house next door as well!
Thanks for the feedback! Mixing sound on headphones and then speakers is fine but until the vid is played on phones etc then it's hard to know what to expect. I'll bear that in mind for the next one and mix the music down lower and drop it altogether when there's the sound of steam trains as an alternative. Chris
Great to see Geoff and Tim making a video together at one of the best railways in the World! Where else can you ride a little steam train next to a nuclear power station?! Some interesting aspects covered here about what all railway enthusiasts have been through at some time or another.
Thank you, RHDR, for this lovely video. I totally agree with what these three guys are saying about railways. I can totally agree with it. I love railway journeys it helps me feel better when I'm feeling down or having a bad day it makes me feel better I love visiting the Romney and other preserved railway lines they are such friendly places and you always find someone to chat to I'm glad the 2023 season is about to open
I get a bit of ribbing for being a railway buff, but I'm thick-skinned enough to not let it get to me. However, I do realise that some people are a lot more sensitive than me. So congratulations on such a great video, with a positive message.
What a fantastic production! This just proves that if you are wanting to be involved in a railway don't hold back, do it. Everyone who volunteers will quickly realise everyone who is there is there for the same reason. The feeling of being involved, appreciated and valued helps everyone's self-esteem. The RHDR is a happy place to be and indeed the many other heritage railways are, you will always have friends. So many other heritage railways produce films that are about engines and yes, they are important, but it's not all about locomotives. Heritage railways are run in general by people giving up their free time to be be with other like-minded folk from all different areas of the community and different life experiences, trains are secondary. Well done guys a brilliant film.
Thank you! I haven’t been so unexpectedly teary-eyed since the Queen died (and before that the emotional postscript to Geoff’s last video during the opening week of the Elizabeth Line). I do feel that something has changed in the attitude of the general public towards railways and railway enthusiasts in the past few years - maybe Covid has helped people understand and identify the things that are really important to them.
Great video!! I was looking to buy a house in the area and as a naturist was always careful to check round the gardens for privacy from the neighbour's windows etc. I had found a lovely house and the garden privacy check was going well - then a RHDR train passed the end of the garden!! Oh well, on to the next possible property...
This is a very moving video with regards to what both Geoff & Tim pointing out about mental well-being and the roles that railways can bring. As someone who understands fully what they’re saying, going through the same angsts every so often. This has been a lovely, lovely video. Great to see my mate Alan hogging the limelight again 😂
Beautiful video on the best and most beautiful railway in the country where I spent every summer in my younger years just riding the trains. When not onthe trains we used to hear the train whistles from our classrooms at Brockhill
What an amazing and thoughtful thing you have done here. Beautiful. I hope that those that feel lost or alone know that this community cares, and will be brave enough to share how they are feeling. Thank you.
What a beautiful video with a great message behind it. The RH&DR has always been my happy place since I was about 5 years old; 50 years has passed and it still has the same magic. I drive everyone crazy when I have my laptop streaming the live station cams and the whistles come steaming out of my speakers in the kitchen! Love Tim's unfiltered emotion in this, you can tell his railway family mean so much to him. XX
Finally got to the RH&DR last year and a great trip..... .......lovely little raikway with some almost alien landscapes, off line pubs and amazing places like Hythe..... ......and all fun! If you've not been, combine tge raikway with local buses, the seascapes, the towns and the pubs. Great video guys....Nice to see you all having an obviously great time!
My wife and I had a wonderful experience over the summer of taking a fairly train oriented trip (there were a few ferries, planes, buses, and one car involved too), and I loved the experience. I met so many staff who were quite willing to share and express their pride and excitement about trains. Most passengers I met were quite friendly and outgoing. I cannot think of any other mode of travel where I have had so many wonderful conversations with such a broad range of people. Then there is the joy of seeing so many beautiful parts of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland (sorry Wales, you're next!). Before this trip I had been on one train trip outside of London (to Brighton in the 80's), but the whole trip was an incredible, happy experience. For those that are interested, I will list the things we saw: Caledonian Sleeper to Inverness Far North Line to Thurso Inverness to Edinburgh (not on the Sleeper) Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (my artist wife didn't realize how fascinating rail liveries are until we went to the museum) Edinburgh to Glasgow The Enterprise train from Belfast to Dublin The Lartigue Monorail The Elizabeth Line from Woolwich to Paddington Heathrow Express (which I never take, but we were pinched for time)
A very enjoyable video with an excellent message. You do make friends on the railways, and keep the memories too. Playing trains IS great fun. I have visited this wonderful line quite a few times since the 1960s and think that it is probably the best attraction in the area. (My only quibble with this video is the overbearing music. Let the trains and people provide the sounds.)
I agree with you two. I went to San Diego -- 40 miles just today -- train, LRT, buses. I was doing real business, but I had a lot of fun because I went out and back on a train. Plus I rode a Siemens Duewag SD-100 LRV which San Diego's MTS is hasn't yet been retired.
Top video once again Chris 👏 Well supported by your stunt doubles as well. Such an important message put over so clearly in a fun way. Getting out and doing something different, with a bunch of like minded folks, really can make a difference. For me it's also so rewarding, when you get to see the faces of children who have a steam train ride, some for their first time... how so enthralled they are with the sights, sounds and smells etc. Without volunteers- it simply wouldn't be possible. Keep up the great work Chris, Geoff & Tim.
OMG! THIS IS THE BEST! This is the video I have been waiting for since like... The first time I saw Chris post here like months ago! This is amazing! 😍😍😍
Absolutely fantastic guys 😊Full of emotion and love ❤️ It’s on my wish list to ride this railway 👍🏻 Now watching this defiantly in 2023 I’ll ride the RHDR 😊
Omg, Geoff looks like a very young Daniel Craig! The RH&DR just holds so many good memories for me, I am really missing the railway, it's been a while since my last visit, so I watch as many videos of it as I can.
Fantastic Video, so true, most of my friends are through the railways and being a volunteer at the NNR, having being bullied about liking trains when younger, but now feel that with work and through the events, volunteering and model railways, now feel part of a family not just in the UK but the world.
Excellent video. I was there all day last Saturday and had a great time. Couple of weeks off from my home railway but back cleaning trains at the Bluebell on 14th. Volunteer and make a difference!!
If you climb to the top of the Old Lighthouse near the terminus in Dungeness (seen at 2m 20s), the already small train seems too tiny to carry passengers.
Fantastic.. live half an hour away and I can honestly say one of the most precious lines you could ride along.. a trip to the Britannia is a must when you get off at the end of the line (literally you will think you have gone to the end of the world) if your feeling thirsty 🤓
Whenever I feel low the RH&DR is always my go to, no matter if it is just watching it on one of the video streams or paying a visit to go for a ride. I must have been there literally hundreds of times but I still look forward to the next visit.
nice to see Geoff and Tim doing this vid maybe they can do the secrets of the RHDR -- i still miss the engines as they went past the caravan site when we was down there fishing a good few years back
I just tried to edit the comment below but UA-cam wasn't having it! Michael Bentine was on the inaugural train as a 4 year old and dear old Spike could drive a train. (allegedly.)

Wonderful I couldn't agree more with those sentiments about railways

Make more of this kind of video
Agreed. Train UA-camrs and TV personalities coming and getting a day at the railway.
The steamers at the RH&D are definitely the most impressive. All built from scratch and marvels of engineering.
Stayed at Jolly Fisherman in Greatstones on Sea with my mum and dad in 1949 and 1950, think I rode the RHDR just about every day. Last rode in1974.wonderful times! Grand memories!

This is amazing and I Loved seeing Geoff and Tim Dunn, Railways and Trains are amazing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you, RHDR, for this lovely video. I totally agree with what these three guys are saying about railways. I can totally agree with it. Three of my favourite 'Railway People' cheering me up after a particularly bad couple of weeks. Thanks guys.

What a lovely thing to say, thank you Andrew.

Very well said. Heritage line Railways have been a great source of joy for so many people in this crazy time we're living through.
Great video!! This is brilliant so true what Geoff said.Make more days out like this cheers for posting
What a blast from the past - seeing Hercules again after (um, 2022-1976 =) 46 years was great.
Beautiful video on the best and most beautiful railway in the country where I spent every summer in my younger years just riding the trains. When not onthe trains we used to hear the train whistles from our classrooms at Brockhill
Brilliant! It's a 24,000 mile round trip for me to ride on my favourite railway, so thx for posting. Love all your work Geoff. Especially this one! 🙏👌
I am 76 and have loved railways all my life and will continue to do so I am just starting to make a new model railway so onward and upwards
What a wonderful video and message. Thank you!
What an amazing and thoughtful thing you have done here. Beautiful. I hope that those that feel lost or alone know that this community cares, and will be brave enough to share how they are feeling. Thank you.

Thank you for this. And so glad to see you all enjoying yourselves. As a local, this has prompted me to apply to volunteer.
OMG! THIS IS THE BEST! This is the video I have been waiting for since like... The first time I saw Chris post here like months ago! This is amazing! 😍😍😍
Omg! And the ending with the help lines!?! You all are so wholesome and kind and omg! Thank you for making and sharing this! 💜
Tim & Geoff in the same video, what reality is this! 😍🚄
I used to live in Dungeness, the RH&D ran past the bottom of my garden. Happy times.
Been on that miniature railway and it’s lots of fun. Nice to see Tim and Geoff having a great time 😂
Thanks for this guy’s. The first place I head for when we come back for a visit, is the RHDR.
Great video, very entertaining and heartfelt observations. Thank you for uploading and sharing with us railfans.
Fantastic. Tim’s piece about friends was very well said. Would love to see more from the day.
Pure enjoyment. More please, more! 👏👏👍😀
Absolutely fantastic guys 😊Full of emotion and love ❤️ It’s on my wish list to ride this railway 👍🏻 Now watching this defiantly in 2023 I’ll ride the RHDR 😊
Well I'll look forward into returning to the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch soon for a drive on one of the locomotives
What a lovely little film! And I've added a destination for our next visit to the UK.
Omg, Geoff looks like a very young Daniel Craig! The RH&DR just holds so many good memories for me, I am really missing the railway, it's been a while since my last visit, so I watch as many videos of it as I can.
that was great, thank you x
Me every 2 seconds: I've been there, That's where a ate fish and chips, and that's where I walked the dog!
Well done, great video guys

Thumbs up and a comment, just because I would like more people to see this. Made me mile. Thanks.
(Edited for typong error)
A great video and a great message 👏. Plus great to see Geoff and Tim loving the RHDR!
You guys are awsome 😎
Watching videos like this are a stress reliever for me
Absolutely fab video Chris!
Thank you x

Brilliant, thank you.
A wonderful piece of work, many thanks for making this guys.l
Brilliant video, brightened up my evening. Thank you
One of my favourite UA-camrs Geoff on one of my favourite railways. Shame the music is a bit annoying but great video
That was brilliant. Thanks.
This is lovely.
Join the Movement, return the much beloved pacers #Ilovepacers #blovedpacers
That was rather lovely!
A beautiful little vid, well done.
Three top-notch people! 😊👍
Used to think I keep watching these vids bc of my love of train stuff. But am beginning to think maybe it’s just because I’m crushing on Geoff. ☺️
very good at 7.25 alan my sisters other half,
good on you boys...keep your chins up, or don't let the bastards get you down...
Fantastic.. live half an hour away and I can honestly say one of the most precious lines you could ride along.. a trip to the Britannia is a must when you get off at the end of the line (literally you will think you have gone to the end of the world) if your feeling thirsty 🤓
well this certainly lived up to expectations 😁
Very interesting but most of all, very enjoyable 👍 Well done. PS why did Tim and Geoff not have L plates on? 😂
Whenever I feel low the RH&DR is always my go to, no matter if it is just watching it on one of the video streams or paying a visit to go for a ride. I must have been there literally hundreds of times but I still look forward to the next visit.
Loved this, thanks so much
nice to see Geoff and Tim doing this vid maybe they can do the secrets of the RHDR -- i still miss the engines as they went past the caravan site when we was down there fishing a good few years back
A secrets of the RHDR is written but will need to be filmed on a normal running day... So we will have to wait until next year!
I sense a new series with these 3!!!
I ve enjoyed riding in the RHD Rly trains but just don't get leg cramp?!!😲😆
I just tried to edit the comment below but UA-cam wasn't having it!
Michael Bentine was on the inaugural train as a 4 year old and dear old Spike could drive a train. (allegedly.)
Maybe Geoff should be persuaded to do ALL THE STATIONS......narrow guage.
At Romney sands what is the swap for?
The track goes from double to single line work so the swap shows how many locomotives are in a section of the line.
@@RomneyHytheDymchurchRailway oh ok thanks love the railway!
