(Fares + Tips (for quick transportation and gentle landings) - Fuel costs) 2) "Below the Root" - The sequel to the "Green Sky" trilogy of YA novels by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, a side-view platforming and adventure game. The big apple most likely comes from the word "Manzana" in spanish which also means apple but is used to refer to a city block aswell and comes from "Mansana" which was a "Manso Feudal", a set of terrain given by a feudal lord to a group of peasants or landowners to work on. Most likely people hear spanish immigrants refer to streets as Manzanas and adapted it to apples in english
Thanks to Google, appearently the reason for calling it that is as follows (directly copied from the top search): The nickname "The Big Apple" originated in the 1920s in reference to the prizes (or "big apples") rewarded at the many racing courses in and around New York City. However, it wasn't officially adopted as the city's nickname until 1971 as the result of a successful ad campaign intended to attract tourists.
This somehow looks easier than the NES version because you don't have the stupid trek up the building once you get inside, it just ends straight away if you get two guys inside. You just made my husband extremely happy by playing this game. He is OBSESSED with Ghostbusters and even will be volunteering to be a Ghostbuster for a charity group. Thanks guys 😊😊😊
Personally I can't tell if I'm being unreasonably frustrated with Arin. Like, for today's computers, what emulator of an older system doesn't have some sort of save state? I used to play on an emulator that ran *in the browser* with flash. And that had a save state feature. The least he could've done was look! And the fact it was in the window bar makes it even more frustrating. And I wouldn't be as frustrated if he looked and somehow missed it. It just feels like he lacked energy for a simple thing like that
I remember playing this game as a kid in the 80's. I actually beat it a few times! One thing that wasn't shown in this video was towards the end of the game, the ghosts on the map screen would sometimes combine and form Staypuff. IIRC you could use the "Ghost Bait" by pressing "B" on the keyboard and that would cause the ghosts to stop combining. If you did it the city would reward you but if you failed you would be fined and lose money.

26:00 omg, mom dad stop fighting please 😭
Arin deserved it
I’m a similar age to Danny and this is first game I remember playing. Never clicked on a video so fast.
They're not gonna let V access Pact's bank account! That's identity theft, mister! =v
Arin sounded like he was in a good mood but tired. Hope all is well with these lovely boys
I’m loving more classic old games that you guys are playing, keep it up
Arin not even getting up to check for a save state and then getting frustrated with Dan for asking for one is one of the most infuriating things I've seen on this show.
Seriously.
Agreed
Oh, yeah. Definitely.
The whole "sushi in the fridge" thing bothered me, as well. "But I have hot stuff in there!" Then take it out of the bag, jackass. Your friend and business partner is asking for the tiniest favor to help avoid fucking food poisoning. Then the save state stubbornness had me thinking "Does Arin need a nap and a fucking diaper change?" Jesus
@@dboone7670 Ffs, sushi is fine at room temp for a couple hours.
Actually Dan, the "Ghostbusters!" voice is the digitized voice of the programmer, and from what I've heard it was very tricky to do and one of the first games to do it...
Oh my god That “well I didn’t know!”
Was the most childish response to being 💯 in the wrong I’ve ever heard
I cringed irl
Never have I clicked so fast for a game grumps vid, ghostbusters is the stuffff
@@tysoncrash0 we dont talk about that
When Dan called Arin's friendship agony, I felt that in my soul
I wish they did Dan's Intro when he was playing solo during that brief moment
27:20 Never cross the streams Dan!
"There's something very important I forgot to tell you! Don't cross the streams… It would be bad… Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light."
Did you know: Ray Parker Jr., the man who wrote the Ghostbusters theme song, was sued by Huey Lewis & the News for having taken the same bassline and saxophone lick from their song "I Want A New Drug." So every time you hear the Ghostbusters theme, Huey and his News get royalties from it. rhythm
Lol yup I did know that actually
"Being your friend is agony, sometimes." -Dan Avidan, 2021
Never had a commodore, so never played this one before. But I always did hear how hard it was.
The gozer building DOES exist, actually. 55 central park west, it's about half the height than it is in the movie though and theres no masonic alter on the roof.
I like how Arin and Dan fully embrace their feelings for each other at this point, also I just recently got my toy PKE meter in the mail and I have the good Ghostbusters game that was remastered in 2019.
0:45 I'm already losing it 🤣 not even a minute into the episode 🤣
Sushi! Don't you know that the City's PK levels are rising!? Come ON!!!
@@homelessbonelesspizza 🤣🤣

He's like: *"...OOHHHHHHHH!!!"* 😲
I owned this game as a kid and I played it for hours at a time.
I never once, at any point, knew what I was doing.
Commenting again to recommend two more Commodore 64 games for future episodes!
1) "Space Taxi" - a challenging platforming game where you fly passengers from pad to pad on a couple dozen different screens of varying difficulty with various different gimmicks. Complete all screens, find the MYSTERY SCREEN, and make as much profit as you can! (Fares + Tips (for quick transportation and gentle landings) - Fuel costs)
2) "Below the Root" - The sequel to the "Green Sky" trilogy of YA novels by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, a side-view platforming and adventure game. Explore colossal trees, find spirit leaders to raise your spirit powers, and use the special items you find and spirit abilities you learn to find Raamo, the spirit-blessed, and rescue him so he can reunite the tree-dewlling Kindar people with the cavern-born Erdling people to bring peace to Green Sky!
I love this retro kick you guys are doing. Reminds of the old playthroughs of old games you guys used to do
Yep, and I hope they stumble into C64 game with rocking soundtrack. SID music has such an unique raw sound.
Perfect thumbnail! Grumpheads, not taking up ridiculous room with overexaggerated faces, and best of all you can clearly tell what game it is by looking at it. 10/10.
You know, it’s the little moments of “friendship frustration”...friendstration? That make Game Grumps stand out. That’s how REAL friends behave, and while I’m sure it’s played up for laughs usually, it just reinforces how Arin and Dan are legit friends recording these.
Now kiss.
I mean...uh...How about that new Sonic game?
@@rustyshackleford6633 Only one of them can quit. The other one would terminate the show if he left.
Anyone else hear Dan in their head sing "I'm an adult virgin" to the theme?
THANK YOU!
Dan: You're so frustrating!
Me, a long time viewer: Wow, that is relatable!
I love how healthy Arin and Danny's arguments seem to be and I feel blessed to get to see a side of their friendship this time that I thought I'd never see.
Activision's Ghostbusters: Profits make me feel good!
Dan's legit like an old man talking to his grandson about new technology.
"Make it do the thing!"
"It's not that easy, grandpa"
"MAKE IT DO THE THING YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS"
Arin literally made a big deal out of nothing with the save state thing. There's a little something called Google bud.
I just don't understand his reasoning. Like every emulator I've used has had a save state feature. Why wouldn't this one?
I'm guessing he did it for a comedy bit. Arin seems to enjoy doing dickish things for laughs. Like, who wouldn't check to see if something had a save state before recording an episode? These guys, apparently.
@@sunshinegamer1981 I dunno Arin seems genuinely clueless about a lot of things. Either that or he's a good enough actor to consistently fool people, and if that's the case props to him cause he did sound genuine to me.
Welcome to the Game Grumps experience, first time?
You don't even need Google. Just look through the menus. If there is a save state function, it's usually clearly labelled and one of the first options in the menu.
"If you were a ghostbuster, who would you be?"
The Grumps: I dunno, probably the lego ones
Anybody else just really hoping these episodes do well because you love hearing Danny so happy
The Master System version of Ghostbusters was a giant part of my childhood. So many good and frustrating memories of that game.

That brief silence from Arin after Dan made his comment about that kind of party, and mashed potatoes… absolutely got me 🤣🤣🤣
Please keep playing Commodore Games, it's amazing.
AHH Dan and Arins banter made me a little nervous at first but I remember that as long as busting makes them feel good they can play through any emulator
I was expecting Arin starting with a cold open “busting makes me feel good”
If you just went through a pile of commodore games for a solid month, I dunno man. I'd be a happy dude hearing you guys being happy.
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT KIND OF MAGIC YOU THINK I HAVE!”
Oh I don’t know, the kind of magic that knows which buttons on this keyboard are likely to bring up the menu with “save state” on it, ya fuckin prick
Oof that was frustrating to watch
Dan was 💯 correct
He didn’t even try.
"Being your friend is agony sometimes."
Lmao. Relatable.
Wish I could stay for another cold one but I gotta hit the road!
That is so nostalgic. There was so many things I didn’t know when playing the game. When I reached the end, I vaguely recalled the StayPuff jumping up and down, not side to side… maybe my memory is failing me…
Arin is getting a lot of flock for getting Dan’s sushi for him and putting it in the fridge while Dan plays video games.
Technically it was *their* sushi and dan was right to be on top of that, sushi can really wreck you if you don't eat it at the right temp and it goes bad quickly.
I was a sushi chef 30 minutes isn’t gonna destroy you.
@@marcomedina9021 but were you a good sushi chef
@@marcomedina9021 to be fair, because Arin refused to check if there was a save stat, he had to play the entire game again. Don't know if he ate during the break or not, but according to the amount of time he said he played, probably an hour or so later is when they finished?
The big apple most likely comes from the word "Manzana" in spanish which also means apple but is used to refer to a city block aswell and comes from "Mansana" which was a "Manso Feudal", a set of terrain given by a feudal lord to a group of peasants or landowners to work on. Most likely people hear spanish immigrants refer to streets as Manzanas and adapted it to apples in english
I always assumed it was called the big apple because it's the biggest city in New York State, and New York is known for growing apples.
Thanks to Google, appearently the reason for calling it that is as follows (directly copied from the top search):
The nickname "The Big Apple" originated in the 1920s in reference to the prizes (or "big apples") rewarded at the many racing courses in and around New York City. However, it wasn't officially adopted as the city's nickname until 1971 as the result of a successful ad campaign intended to attract tourists.
@@MoonlitLycan What's your source? I am just curious.
Good thing Ness isn't here, because with all that pk energy you'd have a pk fire 🔥
if Lucas was here, his pk love would give us all world peace
I know right? I called Flint but he said Lucas was "gone with Claus" and then hung up
I somehow forgot for thirty years that this was a thing I loved.
Comma eight comma one, boys. ❤️
Man, I hope they play Archon.
My C64s still work, and with the cardreader, I still play these wonky games.
I remember the NES version being ridiculously hard too.
This somehow looks easier than the NES version because you don't have the stupid trek up the building once you get inside, it just ends straight away if you get two guys inside. And the driving segments are dramatically shorter. But the ending still looks pretty difficult to figure out as a kid in the 80s for sure
What emulator in the history of EVER has never had Save States, the need to be obnoxiously egregious for no discernable reason is baffling.
Totally agree, no idea why Arin wouldn't even TRY. Every emulator I've ever used has had save states.
Ah yes, just say all of the npc youtube commentary words to say "this person is bad but I have no real criticisms to make."
I really enjoy when they play nostalgic or favorite games, they have such good energy when they do these ones ^^
i was fully expecting Arin and Dan to sing the full song
"Being your friend is agony sometimes"
I get that a lot.
You just made my husband extremely happy by playing this game. He is OBSESSED with Ghostbusters and even will be volunteering to be a Ghostbuster for a charity group. Thanks guys 😊😊😊
Arin is so frustrating here. All Dan wanted was for him to try to find the save state and he couldn't even be bothered to do that.
The fight over the save state is the best part of this episode. I love it.
This was one of my favorite games back in the mid-late 80s... I mean, it was this, Aliens, Project: Space Station, Jumpman, Lode Runner, and Boulder Dash!
Usagi Yojimbo, Archon, Blue Max and Space Taxi.
_Project: Space Station_ looks pretty advanced tho.
The title was gold, clicked it so fast
Every emulator has that, Arin- I'm not mad just disappointed.
