I strongly disagree. I like the metroidvania retro feel of the game. It was sometimes challenging but never too unfair. The mix of weapons and the great number of collectibles mixed up the gameplay enough to be satisfying until the very end. I have to nitpicks though: On the map every room is surrounded by 4 white lines. Typically for this genre the spots that lead from one room to another are specifically marked on the map, but in this game those spo ts weren’t marked unfortunately. This made backtracking a little bit harder. The other problem I have is that the enemy variety isn’t that great. After a while you have seen nearly every type of enemy and no new ones appear after ca. 50 percent of the game.
To anyone who loves Super Metroid and Metroidvanias you'll enjoy this one. Forget what this guy says this was a pretty damn good game. Also I never had a hard time killing the previous dead agent. One last thing I played this on the Switch with no glitches.
I don't agree with the harshness of this review. Its fairly easy to kill your zombie version after you die. I never once had an issue killing it. I experienced no slow down whatsoever and if this reviewer did, i feel its disingenuous not to mention this is an early version of the game and could be fixed with a patch. Plus the reviewers playstlye is very fast, thus maybe why he is dieing a lot (or having to reset a lot) most reviews ive seen state this game is double the length of 5 hrs stated here. Maybe if the reviewer stopped to smell the roses he may have enjoyed himself more.
The Metal Pig yeah I got a lot of time in this game. Grinding regaining health ammo NOT DYING lol. But I will admit I have used the reset a few times lol. But only because I was at work and I don't got time to kill my old self and regain all the ammo. Haha. I love this game. He must be biased to the genre as a whole or he hates the movie that much
why? It's obvious the reviewer is giving their honest opinion of which they are completely entitled to.. There was nothing disingenuous about it. Look, we all have different taste.. for example.. "slain" has a 45 on metacritic and I loved it. We are all just different.. I don't believe any of those reviews were dishonest. This is why I wish every single game on the eshop had a demo.Another example, 99vidas hasn't got the best reviews, around average overall, and after playing the 2 included stages I already know it's a must have for me (however they way they have ripped off street's of range soundtrack amazes me that Sega hasn't sued the pants off them). Metroid on NES bores the living shit out of me.. Played about an hour of it on the Switch NES online thingy.. I am sure most people LOVE that..On the other hand, sometimes my views align with the majority, for example, the two switch shantae games.. Adore them. Sonic Mania, etc. @@TegridyGenetics
@@teddym2808 Sega will never sue them cause they will have to travel a representative of the company(usually a guy really high up) to the country of the ones being accused get a lawyer there that knows japanese or is good enough with english to understand it with the japanese accent and stay in the country for at least 8 months if they are lucky, if they are not this representative will have to come and go for around 10 years staying for a week or more each time. so no they will never sue them.
I think that the game should check the amount of health and ammo you have when entering the a room. If you die in that room you could kill the last agent and continue with the exact amount of health and ammo you had. I died in the dragon chicken boss. Came back to save point and tried again. I found the dead agent one room before the boss. That moment, when I entered this room first time, it could have continue like I suggested. I think this way, the mechanic of death could be interesting and have the same results of a "go to title and start again".
I haven't tried it yet, so I can't knock you yet, but if I play this and the difficultly is inline with most retro games, I'm taking your retro gaming card away.
I played hollow knight and loved it .. and I’m trying to find another game like it this looks similar but just using a gun it’s this game any good ? It looks good but this guy gave it a bad review so I’m on the fence on this one ?
I do the same with the reset before dying. But that's the point my man. It's to get that anxiety up when your getting low on health. I love it. And your crazy to say it's only ok. It's an amazing game. I give it 9 all day. I also put it top 5 of the whole genre it correlates to. But that's an opinion. Enjoyed the video thank you.
1:52 I think you meant palatable, not palpable. Otherwise this seemed like a decent review. More relevant now that Limited Run is doing a physical release. You definitely saved me from spending 50+ dollars for a 16bit Contra clone. I already own the Contra Collection - why would I buy this?
wow this game is like aliens infestation (which of course is made by wayforward) fuck this review, ima still buy this game. just because it's tied to a bad movie doesn't make this a bad game, sounds like this game was too hard for this guy hence the negative vibe even tho he even says the game is not bad.
Complaining that the jumps are too tough, and require precision? Jeez, definitely not a NES/SNES gamer. That's part of the reward, beating the tough parts.
Game is nice, but I have to agree with a lot of points on this video. Haven't experienced death yet, but I came close a lot of times. The enemies just do a bit too much damage for my liking. Like the damn spiders in the beginning - 11 damage if you so much as touch them. At a point where you have no health power ups yet, that's more than 10% of your health. And don't get me started on this freakin' precision acid-sniping bats... I still don't understand how I made it out of the tutorial stage alive. Freaking "Close Call" trophy is not much a prize... And the platforming sections...it is like the developers looked at each platforming section and went like "Ok, how can we make this harder than it has to be? Any ideas?" "Well, we could place enemies here, here and here so the player has to shoot enemies with precision while trying to make the jump." "Not bad, not bad at all. Still, not enough. More suggestions? C'mon, gimme something, guys!" "Well, I suppose we could...dunno, make the enemies either really small, make them attack at the most critical moment and from offscreen so the player has no real way of avoiding them unless he knows what is coming OR...we could make them respawn indefinitely, so even if the player dispatches them, they'll just keep coming." "Woah...someone give this guy a medal, this is awesome! Implement it all post-haste! Dismissed"
a review is nothing but one persons opinion its no good to me then a random guy on a bus telling me his opinion on it. review i watch is for whats in the game how it looks and how it runs but fuck there feelings
Omg this review is terrible! This game is a fantastic metroidvania! Beautiful graphics, excellent music, tight controls and excellent gameplay and locals! Loved it
This review is garbage. I have played and beat the game. Absolutely loved it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves metroid or contra. 9 out of 10 for sure
The game looks great and feels great but that death mechanic is just... pointless... if you die in a spot with tons of zombies around, you just can't get to your gear/zombie agent. This mechanic is so bad that lowering final score like 30% is generous at best. Don't get me wrong... i'm way over 30 years old and played on NES and SNES for years. Played many hard games but each of them could be done if you get used to it... here ? Nope... i finished this game and never came back to it. But even today i play other old NES games just for fun. Thats how bad this game is for me.
It will be available on Friday, October 23rd at 10AM Eastern Time limitedrungames.com/collections/neo-frontpage/products/switch-limited-run-86-the-mummy-demastered
Since I just played this game, I have to say it is NOT good. Literally everything about it is frustrating. From the enemies to the map, everything seems to be intentionally designed to infuriate the player. Every single room is filled with dozens and dozens of bugs and rats on every surface and platform. 90% of the enemies cannot be hit without crouching. The map is intentionally misleading and does not show doors or passageways so good luck if you need to backtrack, you'll find yourself scouring the entire map before you find where you need to go. If you die in a tough area and forgot to save nearby GOOD LUCK getting your stuff back on one health bar with the default weapon. Luckily this game is also short, so the pain only lasts so long. If you like metroid games go find a better one. There are literally thousands of them out there.
I agree with most of the critiques. I found parts of this game super frustrating. Feel like you're not given enough freedom of movement to accomplish what the game asks.
I bought this before anyone even knew about the game, thus no reviews were out. I saw in the description that it was a Metroidvania game. SWEET!! WayForward? SWEEEETTT!! Then...I played the game. (Sigh). How it pains me to say this: I found myself not enjoying the game because of the annoyingly small, constantly respawning birds and bullet-sponge enemies. What a waste of $25 Canadian (plus tax!!). It was a chore. Damn.
Terrible review, this game is fantastic. Are you Ryan McCaffrey's bad taste brother, that fool gave alien isolation a 5 and halo 4 a 10. I wish this dev could make another MV, don't care if it's the mummy but something similar. They have to use the same music producer though, the music on this game is f fantastic.
I strongly disagree. I like the metroidvania retro feel of the game. It was sometimes challenging but never too unfair. I think a lot of the "flaws" that you sighted largely boil down to the fact that you're perhaps not that great at playing video games.
Pretty much, yeah. Most of the flaws he highlighted aren't even real ones and pretty much part of the genre when executed well.
LOL
Exactly he had a hard time killing the possed agents ? and complains about having to redo jumping sections which again wasn't hard or frustrating.
Well put 😂 I concur my good man. This is an excellent game
They should port the aliens game they made for the Nintendo ds back in the day... I really wanna play that game.
Alien Infestation. Great Title, great developer!
It plays well on DS emulator on Android.
And contra 4
"Enemies do a lot of damage compared to the health you find along the way" Have you ever played Metroid? If not, why are you reviewing this game?

dats 32 bit style

I loved the review, you pointed out every issue i had with the game, and even so i liked it, liked and suscribed
I’ve really enjoyed way forward’s contra, aliens and boy and his blob. I suspect I’ll really enjoy this one too.
Does anybody have the link to download it please?
Maybe a part 2 will come out and redeem itself....
This game on sale on eShop at $14 (plus taxes)
anyone knows how long to beat ?

It looks more like Contra to me. Has everybody forgotten about Contra? Metroid feels like the wrong comparison.
P Flo Contra is linear. This game has a maze like world with many collectibles and power ups. So besides the shooting it is nothing like contra.
Contra and a bit of Metal Slug
No dude. This is WAY more like Metroid. I'm having a good time with this game.
Yes, one reviewer didn't compare the game to Contra so that means everybody has forgotten about Contra.
P Flo it's like all of them. They play tribute to them all.
Demastered, u think there will be a remastered one
Complaining that the jumps are too tough, and require precision? Jeez, definitely not a NES/SNES gamer. That's part of the reward, beating the tough parts.
Getting upset over Nintendo criticism, THATS a NES/SNES gamer lol

Dude I really enjoyed the developer's dialogue. I was cracking up.
Movement/jumping feels laggy.
Don't trust game journalist. Nowadays at least. Sounds like the reviewer doesn't like it because it is hard. Hence resetting every time he died.
Jug R Have you played it?
Yeah, most other reviews say it’s a great game
I completed it 100%, it's not hard, it's unfair because the death mechanic is not well implemented, really really annoying.
a review is nothing but one persons opinion its no good to me then a random guy on a bus telling me his opinion on it. review i watch is for whats in the game how it looks and how it runs but fuck there feelings

Horrible review
From the review this game sounds bad!
Because he's bad at it
This port is a disgrace: The slowdown happens on a really regular basis - even in bossfights - in later stages of the game.
Ill pass
