i've noticed a trend with the remixes, people seem to love the ones done by Jun Senoue while the ones by Tomoya Ohtani seem to miss the ball more often than not save for a few exceptions, i think the issue is that Ohtani is forcing his new love for Synth wave style music into a franchise where it doesn't fit as much, that style is more suited for Jet Set Radio, but he insists on forcing it into Sonic ever since Forces.
Yeah, i loved ohtani's work in unleashed and colours but its like he's not making music designed for sonic games anymore, just music he likes. I mean jun senoue is kinda doing the same thing with rock music but for example every song in SA2 sounded like it belonged to each character, whereas every song in forces was similar and mediocre at best. Sonic CD and sonic R music works for classic sonic, jun senoue and early ohtani fits modern sonic but this new music doesn't fit into the games or character in any way.
It basically seems like Ohtani ditched the Orchestral rock approach of his previous work and just tries to make his tracks sound like DJ, club kinda tracks. Which is a fine approach, and his tracks aren't bad... But something like his remix of Planet Wisp Act 1 doesn't fit so well. Senoue's tracks always seem to fit what's going on, especially the bosses.
I think every few years theres a tonal shift in the music, looks like the new era for modern sonic music is a more EDM style compared to the orchestral rock from before
you know how Sonic Adventure was supposed to be a JRPG? This sounds like your average ambush attack phase trope, with a hint of that adventure-era love. we love you, jun senoue!
@@MrLedhed123 Those songs were only really bad because they were made using Genesis-esque instruments, which I'm not sure was Jun's decision. I think they would (and do) sound great with the restrictions on instruments.
This is so good!!! I remember when the official sonic channel uploaded the first boss battle theme, and I was waiting so long to see how this one would sound!
While I think the original is better because Captain Jelly and Admiral Jelly are such goofy bosses, the original theme is just much more catchy and suits them better. This remix is outstanding in its own right.

The remix doesn't flow as well as the original, and I blame Jun's added parts. It didn't start as a rock track, so it's not always going to translate into rock well.

his works with synth are pretty nice tbh i think they would fit better if it was used in combination of the style we all know and love for sonic
