    This is the first patch and improvisation using the 16n Faderbank and Ensemble Oscillator from 4ms alongside the other regular players in my current setup.
    Improvised elements: The 4ms Ensemble Oscillator is playing back custom intervals and being filtered by QPAS. 4 channels of the 16n are being used here to improvide the chords being played as well as the timbre. One channel is modulating the route parameter of the EnsOsc raising and lowering the route pitch. A second channel is patched to the filter frequency of the QPAS and as a result is being used to fade the 4ms EnsOsc in and out during the performance. Another 2 channels are modulating the Twist and Warp input on the EnsOsc and thus modulating the timbre of the oscillators.
    Sequenced/Pre-arranged elements: Marbles here is sequencing Rings which is being processed by uClouds in looping delay mode. Hermod is sending a simple sequence over to plaits which is being processed by magneto in its looping delay + pitch shifting mode. Hermod is also sequencing (via midi) the super disting ex in its multisample mode, which is being sent directly to a stereo mixer channel for added EQ and Reverb. Morpagene is playing back some acoustic guitar lines that have been sampled, spliced and are being mangled through modulation of the Morph, Gene and Slide parameters.
    As well as being used to modulate EnsOsc and QPAS the 16n is also being used to modulate Rings Brightness, VCA's controlling levels of Morphagene output channels and VCA's controlling levels of DistingEX output channels and as a result is being manipulated to bring elements in and out throughout the performance.
    All audio signals were mixed in a basic sense using a Mackie1202 mixer and reverb was added courtesy of the Strymon Big Sky. The track was recorded live to logic using a Focusrite 2i2 and then subject to some gentle for EQ and Mastering before exporting.
    Video shot on Panasonic G80 and edited in DaVinci Resolve 16.
    Once again.....
    Thank you for stopping by and listening.

    Never heard ambient modular like this before! Beautiful, imaginative, and great recording with a stereo field. So rare to hear a stereo field in modular recordings today.

      Thanks for listening and for such kind words. Hermod is great! But I’m pretty new to the ensemble oscillator... my advice with it is definitely go ahead and reprogram some of the scales, that really helped me begin to learn how the whole thing works.

    This video made me reconsider selling my 4ms ensemble oscillator for the time being! What is making that subtle warbling reverb sound in the background from the very beginning to the end though? Is it the magneto?

    • @FormsMusic

      Thank you for the kind words. I agree midi implementation for Disting EX is really great. The 2hp module is a MIDI breakout adapter, connects to EX via a ribbon cable and then gives midi control.

    Curious on your thoughts on the Ensemble Oscillator versus QuBit's Chord V2! I was all set to purchase the Chord after watching your piece "Bide" but this video has me reconsidering!

    • @FormsMusic
      @FormsMusic  3 роки тому

      Hmmm 🤔 they really are so different and I’m my opinion achieve very different things. Chord is a great, low HP, answer to adding true polyphony to the eurorack and I have really enjoyed using it in its polyphonic modes as well as the quantised chord modes (like in ‘Bide’ and also ‘Echo Voice’) BUT for me the way you programme custom chords felt unusually clunky and often took me out of the moment when playing music (this may be due just how I think about things and like to work). The 4ms is not polyphonic! You can simply distribute a number of oscillators over a given set of intervals so very different. What I do really like about it though is that the programming of interesting scales/intervals is very intuitive and extremely fast and easy to do. This has made programming what I think are interesting pads and chords has felt very immediate whilst writing. My general advice would be to go and read the manuals for both, that will give you a good idea of their capabilities and how you programme them. They are very different approaches to similar musical concepts. However if you want proper polyphony then only Chord really does that.

    • @stefanbreitenfeld720
      @stefanbreitenfeld720 3 роки тому +1

      I had them both and sold both of them - couldn't get along neither with the sound of the Chord nor the operation of the 4ms. From my experience, buying a rather distinct module after listening to a particular song here on UA-cam might not be your best bet - did it multiple times, rarely works out ;). You usually don't buy modules for a single song - and if you do, it should be _your_ song. When you listen to what you hear in your head, then there's a good chance to make better choices. Just my four cents.

    • @FormsMusic
      @FormsMusic  3 роки тому +1

      It’s called a 16n Faderbank, it outputs CV, or MIDI over 16 faders which you can then map to any controllable parameter in you setup. It’s pretty great!

    that background loop...what makes it?

    • @FormsMusic
      @FormsMusic  2 роки тому

      There are a few things in the background including some looping guitar and then some plucky sounds going through a rhythmic/looping delay.
