  • The Pokemon Company is looking to hire someone that's knowledgeable on NFTs, blockchain, and Web 3 development. You already know that means they're looking for a way to make even more money off the Pokemon franchise through NFTs and Crypto somehow. I find this to be severly disappointing, because my wish is that they would just focus on fixing Scarlet and Violet to deliver a better video game experience.

I think a big thing was the shift to 3D on a home console even if it is a hybrid. Now the expectations are higher but the team couldn't be more stretched. The annual release schedule worked when these games were 2D top down RPGs with sprites. That's why they could continue to bring back returning pokemon every gen. It was manageable up until 3D games were being made. Suddenly expectations skyrocketed with every pokemon being modeled and trainer customization on top of designing a world that would be viewed from different angles. All the sudden corners needed to start being cut in order to meet deadlines. It started with general post game content and the fact x and y was pretty barebones. Same with Oras, they played it super safe and made a carbon copy and didn't have a crazy amount of time to add stuff like trainer customization and the battle frontier so they just slapped a post game quest together real quick and called it a day. Then the jump to sun and moon and how linear and handholdy it felt and going with redesigns of old Kanto Pokemon instead of more new mons since it's easier to just update an old design and give it a new type than to make a whole new Pokemon. Then the switch happened and exp share was forced to be always on and all the pokemon were cut. We lost the national dex in gen 7 but lost the outright ability to use all Pokemon in a single game starting in gen 8. Now even more is being stripped back and cut out. It feels like every game has some ok ideas or cool new Pokemon but is held back by bad performance and even more cut content and restrictions. Now you aren't allowed to turn battle animations off and battle mode is always on switch. There is no set battle mode anymore which takes away even more freedom and player choice. It's just been a downward spiral of poor management, cut content, removal of core functionality of the games, and technical bugs and issues due to a rather small and unskilled team for the pedigree of a franchise they are working on.

You're 100% right; we're losing more and more every generation because game development keeps getting more complicated but the Pokemon company refuses to slow down their 3 year marketing cycle. That simply is not enough time to make an impressive looking 3D game with 800+ Pokemon that all need unique art and animations. And so we get tons of content cut out, corners skipped in development, and we're left with an absolute mess

I 100% feel the same way. Coromon is the closest I’ve ever felt to playing Pokémon in the modern day.

HD-2D Pokemon sounds great but I'm sure Game Freak will find a way to screw it up. I think the series needs to go dormant for a few years like WWE 2K did & take it's time to figure out what direction to go next. There's also the issue that pokemon has gotten bloated over the years, with tons of new mons & features, etc.
I think the best solution is to go back to basics & redefine what a Pokémon game truly is, but as long as it's the biggest selling media franchise of all time... That's never gonna happen.
It's possible to make a game that's accessible to children but satiates the adult audience as well, just look at most of Nintendo's other franchises.

You're right in that one huge problem they're facing in development is the absolute monstrous size of the roster these days. People want all 800+ pokemon in every game, but that's simply impossible to do without making massive compromises. They really do need to simplify things, restart the roster of pokemon, and just focus on what made the franchise successful to begin with.

@@realtayo42 The bigger problem is with each release since x and y the games have had less and less side content and post game content now its basically actually worse then gen 1 content wise at least the game had the game corner and plenty of dungeons scarlet and violet is literally just beat a gym go to the next one you can't go inside most buildings. And unlock abilities for your ride pokemon which are basically hms and fight the joke of an evil team team star. The dungeons actually made it challenging on your first playthough to get to the next town or city now you just go there easily. The gameplay has been dumbed down over the years the dungeons actually made it interesting i had memories of finally getting though victory road and that isn't a thing any more ever since swsh you just go straight to the leauge. It was a pain to actually play this game because i was just playing the same old pokemon formula again but worse. Only reason to buy this game imo is competive play if you want a good single player experince do not buy this game and just play one of the older ones or a rom hack.

Damn, no wonder the game has been buggy. They've been spending all their time making nft's and not on the game.

The Visuals are underwhelming. Switch is more powerful than the PS3, and in a console that is more powerful than the PS3, a game that had GTA V, Pokémon games should be as polished in the visuals as GTA V, not talking about the art-style or being realistc specific, just as detailed, with GTA V being an old game for a weaker console, Pokémon looking better should be the standard, but it looks much worse.
Pokémon Snap and Pokken are the only Switch pokémon games that looks good (one of them being a port of the Wii U), and they're both made by Bandai Namco. Nobody at Nintendo or Pokémon Company worked on them. and that tells a lot.

It should be so much better, and that really makes me sad. There's insane potential with the Pokemon IP, and it's all being wasted on a 3 year dev cycle and a studio that can't figure out how to make 3d games.
