Seems like they should make the attacking advantage way higher, because in chess that advantage is basically 100%. Particularly the king on defense should be a free win to stop the games dragging if one person is way better at checkmating.
Basically anyone who is a known name in the FGC clear Magnus, there is way too much Fighting Game and not nearly enough Chess in this. There's a reason the demo was out for so long, yet literally not a single Chess Streamer/UA-camr even bothered with it.
@@SamuraiFoochs The advantage for "Taking a piece" in Chess needs to be way, way, WAY more substantial. A Grandmaster level move that should equal Checkmate relies entirely on you winning the Fighting Game round where the only advantage you have is that you start with an Ult and they don't. That is NOTHING if your opponent is even slightly more skilled than you. Taking a piece should immediately take 2 bars of health AT LEAST, and even that's only a start. In chess, taking a piece is 100%, so making it a 50/50 or anything even close destroys the game. They need to give an EXTREME advantage to whoever is taking for the Chess to matter. An incredible Chess move can become a game-losing move if you lose, because not only did your entire plan get cancelled, you've now lost a piece AND given your opponent tempo. Losing when you were the attacker is something that should be EXTREMELY rare.
@@ZionSype @ samuraifoochs The biggest issue for me is that the King has to be defeated in combat. That should be removed and traditional checkmate set ups should count as wins (the King putting itself at risk when attacking is okay). Allowing pawns to capture without combat is good balance, but if I were programming this game I would give players the option to sacrifice a few seconds of clock time to capture with any piece without combat. This would balance out the problem of FBC champs being able to defend against chess grandmasters, but it won’t overly favor the chess player because 1 - They can’t stop fights their opponent initiates 2 - They still will risk losing on time if they don’t fight to capture
