To be fair. It being a windows based device is EXACTLY why I wanted it. It's my desktop cpu at home, and my handheld away from home. It's paired with the external xg 3080 and 2 monitors. In this type of set up, I'd recommend 1000%
Love my Ally, I had a deck for a year and got an ally. I’ve not looked back. I’ve not had any of the issues you’ve have but I have heard others have.

Your battery is most likely in a shipping mode, that's why Ally is not turning on when unplugged
The battery issue you talk about should be that you have open thr back cover. There is a light sensor. You have to connect to the charger afterwards
Knock on wood my sd card reader still works, but I've already upgraded my ssd to a full size 4tb 2280. So the sd reader is not necessary anymore.

Yeah, theres a right angle adapter that allows the installation of 2280 NVME drives which as cheap if not cheaper than SD cards.
They should get a both teams to collab together to build something we all want.

Yes that right, how i wish also. You have a point there but it's business, they have different points of view. They compete with each other, so teamwork with different teams is a big NO for them. Just saying. They saw it as a competition not a teamwork to provide better experience 😓😞
Was thinking the same. They should build together a future proof handheld device. Honestly i didnt know which to buy im edging. So i bought legion, ally, and steam deck. So here i am watching games in youtube on my phone most of the time.
Great video. I have wanted one of these PC handheld consoles for a while now. I have a huge library of games across multiple storefronts/launchers. I was so excited for the Ally when it was announced. I love the design and how it can play games from any launch. As time went on I realized it has a lot of issues. The SD card (which is inexcusable in my opinion), buggy software, and other issues. I can't justify spending hundreds on a device with so many issues.Shame, because as I said before, I really like the device

How's it holding up ?
Yesterday my ROG ally just shut down out of the blue while gaming, didn't fall, didn't get water on it, wasn't even heating up as much since the game was in the early phase. At first I thought it just overheated and stopped charging and went to zero but to my surprise the unit just bricked, won't charge won't do anything. Charger is working and tried all the steps available online.
RMA cost is ridiculous so I have a expensive show piece now.
US got the extended warranty my country didn't. The warranty literally expired 3 months ago.
Life has been shitty lately and this is just another shitty thing that happened out of no where.

@QuirkyAvik Have you tried sending it to an independent laptop repair shop? The device is basically a laptop in a funny formfactor and joysticks instead of a keyboard. So they might be able to troubleshoot and repair it for you, which is probably cheaper and faster than an RMA.

Every time you update windows it makes you plug in the charger for it to turn on, thats no bug its how it works and its completely normal.
If you dont know anything about PCs, how to update them and the basic maintenance it requieres then the Ally sisnt for you, people pick this up thinking its going to be a normal console but in reality its something better than a console, a PC
I solved that problem by disconnecting then reconnecting the battery. thanks tho.
That's ridiculous.
Ally has an OS not optimized for its hardware, while Steam Deck has an OS not optimized for its games. Pick your poison. While the Ally's SD card reader is flawed by design, your battery issue wss very common amongst Steam Deck users.
Windows not optimized for its hardware? 😂😂😂 Good joke you know asus make their hardware specific for windows right? You need to learn what asus is
Windows 11 isn't Windows 8. It simply isn't designed for touch controls anymore, and was never designed to be controlled with joysticks, so I stand my by statement that Windows isn't optimized for the Ally's hardware. I own an Ally btw.

@@Cakebatteredthat's false. Windows 11 runs on all of Microsoft Surfaces and they are primarily a touch device. Windows 11 is well optimized for touch screen functionality and natively supports it without any required adjustments.

I have a weird thing that happens, sometimes when im playing a game, my sticks freeze and i have to screw with it to get it to move again. It screws with me a shit ton, especially in a heated match

@@digitalmaus it doesnt stop working. The sticks freeze up. I think it might be it switching from gamepad to key board and mouse and it freezes my character for a couple seconds

Sorry not sure. Try cleaning with computer air cleaner/duster. You should try contacting customer support in your Area?
I play MK1 on my PC and Ally, I think its more of an mk1 issue but my matches desynch ALOT on my Ally and its so annoying.
Try to double press & hold the power button for the second to wake it up.
Since I disconnected then reconnected the battery , I haven't had a problem with it. thanks tho

@@ctnative203 haven't had a single problem with it. I upgraded my SSD to 2TB , and I only run Adult Visual Novels and 2 games on the micro SD. No problems at all . But then again my Ally doesn't get as hot as it did when I first got it either.

so you did not resolve the issue with the SD card. That's my biggest gripe with the ROG Ally as I want to be able to switch out 1TB SD cards when ever I want, not simply just change an internal SSD
Unfortunately, installing the 2 TB SSD was the solution for me.
@@digitalmaus That's good that it works for you😁, I don't suppose you know if the legion go has the same issue as the ROG Ally concerning the SD card or not

SD cards work on other devices so its definitely the ROG ally’s issue
Hello Mark, I haven't problems with mine so far.
So im really conflicted i want to get into the handheld game and i really wanted a rog ally but i keep seeing that it has a lot of problems. Is it really that bad should i go with the legion go 😭
Really depends on what you are willing to put up with. if you want something simple to use to play games on then I would not recommend it or the Legion Go. I have the Legion go right now and have issues with a game not starting and a couple of other things. I find the SteamDeck and Nintendo Switch far easier to use.
@@digitalmaus Try use Window 10 instead of window 11 might solve a lot of issues. I dont own the devices yet, but its very possible solution.

Go with Ally! No Problems with My device after updating Windows, my Asus and armoury Crate. I'm in Love with My Ally.

Talk about the SD problems...
Asus wil always use windows their computers are all made for windows since asus started but i think your asus does have a problem i had non of these and i also had mine since start you could try looking for a corrupted driver or check your hardware but one thing thats funny i had a steam deck as wel got rid of it due to it running new games poorly but you say that steam deck has its own software wich is not true steamdeck uses linux with steam big screen forced open on it it uses a exe launcher in the back ground its wel hidden but you know linux stays linux but next time maybe check if there is anything faulty for your problems wich relates specific to your ally and if you dont know look first before putting a false review to try put them in a bad spotlight to get views

I definitely messed up on the audio on this vid, Ronin. But I think the people subscribing to me have watched some of my other videos. Audio is better on those.
