    just be advised that there are stretches and curves especially that are not conducive to safe driving at 80mph. the highway crowning, banking, and leveling were made during the 65mph days and several places from the Helena cutoff to Missoula will sling you into the adjacent lane without warning. add to that sometimes stiff cross winds will exacerbate the problem. its not a stretch that you can just kick back and relax. it will bite when you least expect it.

    • @Helo735
      @Helo735 Рік тому

      Thanks for the heads up on the winds...I'll be towing a 24ft travel trailer west to east here in a week and a half. I'll make sure the anti-sway is turned up a little bit.

    Fantastic Drive Kyle! I'm always surprised that Montana didn't become a more populous state in the history of the US. The geography and land looks fantastic, I don't understand why more Americans didn't want to settle there in the early years and build some big cities there too.

    • @InterstateKyle
      @InterstateKyle  6 років тому +8

      Thanks Phil! Believe it or not, 100 years ago, Montana had 500,000 people which is a lot for that time and this area of the US and was ranked 39th in population. Mining was huge and as seen from my previous videos, Helena was a very rich place to be during the Montana Gold Rush. As the mining industry fell, so did the need to live here, but it is seeing a resurgence as of late, feel free to google Billings and read about the city on wikipedia and learn how its one of the fastest growing cities in the USA!

      No major waterways to make international trade more possible. If you look at major cities nowadays they are almost always close to a coast and have a port of some kind. I read somewhere that half of the worlds population lives within 2 or 3 hours of a coast line

    As someone who used to live in Germany it's mind blowing to me that you're supposed to do 80 mph on a road like this. you could easily do 160 on the straight parts and it'd be fine. no speed limit should be the way to go here

    • @luci-fer250
      @luci-fer250 2 роки тому

      they tried that in 99 the highway patrol threw a hissy fit about no speed limit would lead to more hiway fatalities it was fun while it lasted i got pulled over outside of conrad for going 101.7 all i got was a prudent ticket .

    • @BigSkyCurmudgeon
      @BigSkyCurmudgeon Рік тому

      you are able to drive that way because those roads are maintained much better there. in Montana maintenance is a four letter word. here in Montana majority of roads get "chip sealed", which is a glorified "putting makeup on a pig". not fixing the underlieing problems

    the scenery is beautiful in this video, and it's well edited. I've driven most of I-90 in Montana, but not the bit west of US-12. Montana is a beautiful state, particularly in the spring when everything is green.

    I am in love with big flat lands like the great planes or the pampa. Just found by coincidence a youtube channel like yours. Can't say why, but I feel so free and relax on the open plane. Big blue sky, big clouds and horizon as far as the eye can see. My dream holiday would be to just drive from Texas to Edmonton (Canada) through all the states on the way (or from buenos Aires to the end of Argentina in the south). How are the people in this states? Are the open to foreigners? I am from europe.

    Thank you for this video. My Los Angeles born and raised husband has never been to Montana. I was born and raised in Western Washington State and grew up out on the coast. We now live in Olympia and love it here. I have been in Montana on vacations with family. I keep trying to describe Montana for my husband; it's greener than much of Idaho but also has that "big sky" feature, although there are mountains in some parts of that state.
