When this song was a hit in the summer of '84, I was partying in Athens, Greece and then on to the Greek Isles, and this song was everywhere I went!! What great memories of the best summer of my life!

Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker, Jr. for 5 million dollars, accusing him of ripping off the bass line and guitar riff from this song to write the Ghostbusters theme. They settled out of court with a confidentiality agreement.

Proof positive that there is no limit to Human stupidity. People can listen to this song and think that it was unfair or unjust of Huey to sue Ray Parker Junior. I have seriously heard covers that have less similarity to their source material than Parker Junior's Ghostbusters song has to I Want A New Drug.
when sports came out in '83 i think that's when they really came into their own, creatively and artistically.

I don't think you know what a sample means. He stole the structure of the track. He didn't sample it. If he were to have sampled it, it would mean that he literally took pieces of the recording and re-purposed them. That's not what happened. He simply took a lot of the composition and did it himself.
There is nuance to this entire concept that I'm not sure you've been picking up on.

wiisalute the bassline is reaaaallly close and the theres a couple points where the saxophone gets pretty close, I’d have to listen to Ghostbusters again to see how much the drums line up, but the bassline and saxophone are quite eerily similar in certain parts of the song.
