Mark's breakdown of this is awesome, and thoroughly entertaining. I love his technical approach and stellar insight.
Ditto Liz #AlfonsoSnorrison
Yo thank you! Id be lying if I said I hadn't learned a lot from your channel!
Hahaha that dude is a MESS! But In a fun way :)
when is the next co-reaction!?
@@KardavoxAcademy you should join in Liz's premiere tomorrow morning, if you have time of course (8:00am Arizona time) cause she's #spoiledbymetal
When you were about to pause but then were like "nah fuck that" I really felt that hahaha
Haha, sometimes it's just too good!
"It's like Death Metal, Deathcore, Black Metal, Weird, Avantgarde" yeah, welcome to Japanese metal world
He needs to do a deep dive on Dir En Grey
Aussies and Japanese metal bands rule... is it something related to magnetic field in the eastern part of our planet that makes them so cool? Lol )
@@mrblasto1729 Dir en Grey is the GOAT
I will never get tired of watching legitimate musicians and vocalists break this banger down. 🤘
If you wanna hear more of his vocal range you can check out Disobey by Crystal Lake
The highs at the end are actually ridiculous. That song shows why Ryo is top tier
Yeah, disobey slaps!
If you return to Crystal Lake, try out the ending of Disobey!
There's a new version of Holy Roller by Spiritbox with him as guest vocalist and it somehow makes the song slap even harder. You need to check it out, video or not.
I personally think it feels the same but it's still a fucking badass song
No one mentioned that AJ from Issues did the pre breakdown. It was not Ryo’s voice when the vocals change up a bit around the 6:53 mark when he’s sitting in that seat that you mentioned.
Anyhow, Ryo’s vocals are God tier and this song proves it. Dude doesn’t have a weakness.
until i read this i never understood why it says 'A J' on his visor bit
Thank you! I scrolled down just to see if someone mentioned this haha
Damn that's sick I had no clue but I love AJ
Crystal Lake will always be the kings in Japanese metalcore. If you want a song of theirs that have more of those nasty gutturals, then check out Hail To The Fire. I know he's done it in other songs, but I can't think of any right now. Also, in their song Disobey, the screams that Ryo does in them....they are really something else. So those are two I would highly recommend checking out.
My pick! I can't wait to hear the reaction!
Good fucking job on suggesting it, that was a ride!
Even tho it was a tie
YES! The amount Ryo has developed album to album is incredible! Ryo = power
Omg Crystal Lake! Love this band, Ryo got some nasty pipes!
Ryo is a beast! He can hit that low note perfectly live and it sounds even crazier
Love Ryo’s vocals especially those powerful Mids that are kind of similar to The Ghost Inside/Gideon/Erra. Can’t wait to hear the breakdown of that technique
Erra and powerful vocals don't belong in the same sentence
This channel needs some Disobey.
Also, there is a live version of this song at Resurrection Fest and there are a couple of shots of him doing the underbite super low thing.
@2:40 Mark's Brain: We should pause for some analysis . . . nah, groove more.
Crystal Lake is just so much fun, especially live. And ryo's moshcalls uuuuh damn, they get me going nuts😂
Just thought I’d mention that halfway through the song when it goes to that chuggy beatdown section the vocals are actually done by AJ, the guitarist of Issues. That’s why the screen over his face in the video says “AJ” on it for a second. Great video, man!
Ryo (lead singer) does a track with fit for a king called god of fire. So good or the ft with spiritbox on holly roller. Both are awesome tracks
Ryo kills it every time!
ryo with Coldrain in Mayday is the ultimate perfection
Mark, that outro blends into their song Agony. Aeon is heavy, but Agony is amazing.
Please check out "LANDMVRKS - LOST IN A WAVE". Their vocalist is insanely skilled
Let's go!🤘
You need to see Crystal Lake live! Ryo is an absolute beast! Definitely the most impressive vocalist I have ever witnessed live
1000% you should do more crystal lake, they have a ton of stuff id love to see broken down like hail to the fire, apollo, disobey, into the great beyond...
maybe also the old songs with Kentaro Nishimura
Ryo’s guttural lows are among the best I’ve heard. It sounds esp. good when he switches from his higher fries to those low ones like in Mayday.
You’ve got to check out their “Disobey” for more great vocal moments.
Those lower vocals are used in quite a lot of older death metal bands, incantation, old cannibal corpse with barnes are a couple I can think of off the top of my head
These guys have so many wild all over vocally jams that destroy everything in sight. You should dive further into their music. They are epic
Crystal lake are so damn good. One of the best metalcore bands of the last ten years by far. At least for me. (they are older i know, but you know what i mean :))
Speaking of Japanese metal; I hope Mark covers Dir En Grey at some point. Some of the noises that come out of Kyo’s mouth are inhuman. Maybe Patreon can have him watch the Obscure music video as well 😅
@aWildNelby YES PLEASE DO DIR EN GREY OR ONE OF kyos bands!!!!!
Man I love your channel. In the age of discussions on here about reactors not doing enough or lying about not having heard something, you are so refreshing. I could honestly listen to you explain all the techniques for hours. I've even watched videos from bands I don't really care about. But here's hoping for some more Crytal Lake analysis from you!
Now this I'm definitely excited about
Now let's stay in Japan an react to some Deviloof🤘
If you want to get more into Japanese metal I recommend jumping straight into some Dir En Grey. I'd love to see you talk about Kyo's vocals.
Ive been watching you for less time than this video has been out and i love this song and crystal lake so this coming up was a surprise.
Found your channel recently. Love how you dive into the technique of vocals. You absolutely have to check out their song (hail to the fire 🔥)
Love this reaction! Saw them live a while ago and they were amazing. Such a great band 🤘
The video in its own is a masterpiece
Now.... I need to go listen to these guys...
I love this channel
"I'm interested to see where his highs go..." - Disobey is your answer. Def need an analysis of that!
There is a part that sounds like it’s not him and that’s because it’s not him hahaha
oh shit which part wasn't Ryo? I have been listening to this song since like a month after Helix released. I know the bassist or guitarist does a good chunk of clean singing but there wasn't really any of that in this song.
I've seen it live and he nails the nasty part. That's all I wanted!
@@squidsquirthd2684 after 1:27 the one screaming with the android helmet is the guitarist from Issues. Its not Ryo
It's Ryo. AJ made a riff
@@ladinokrow it’s AJ. The video flashes AJ in front of his face when he starts.
Crystal Lake, FINALLYYYYYY. Ryo is fucking sick. Would be great to see you react to Disobey, or Apollo from Crystal Lake.
I got to see them perform this live and even got to hang with the band after the set. Not only one of the most brutal and talented vocalists I have seen live, but easily the nicest in person
Saw these guys on tour with ABR a while back, and damn are they good. I didn't know what to expect but that singer's control of the crowd and the whole band's tightness was insane.
Crystal Lake is an Amazing Band and Helix is a Great Album. You have to listen to the entire album to get the full effect. Aeon is really just the opening of the experience.
This band is MONSTROUS, bro. Definitely worth checking more of them.
Quick side note, that hardcore yell is actually AJ from Issues doing a guest feature.
Mark has gotta crack into some Dir En Grey
Crystal lake is awesome and Ryo is definitely one of my absolute favorite vocalists. Great reaction!
I've seen these guys live and I saw them perform Aeon. He hit the low section live dead ass the same or close to what you hear on record here. It was wild.
Your channel rules. Love you.
I absolutely LOVE this song so I was super excited when I saw that you did an analysis for it! Thanks so much
Great song. I don't think I commented on your video about it, but congrats on Kardashev getting signed to Metal Blade. That's awesome.
Thanks dude!
Love these guys live! I can definitely hear what you're talking about with the true cords straining. His voice starts to deteriorate later in their sets from what I heard. They usually do this song like midway through their set.
Would love to see your analysis of Disobey by them too
OH! YESS am excited for this one
I am here for this !! Can't wait to see what you have to say about Crystal Lake :'D
Definitely should check out Disobey by them if you wanna hear a wild high scream towards the end of the song that I've not heard much of before from any other band lol
Definitely check out Crystal Lake's "Disobey" - it is awesome!! They also were featured on a collaborative version of Spiritbox's "Holy Roller"!
Oh gotta do more and more Crystal Lake!
Nice Reaction. You need to check out "Disobey" by them, then you can hear some real Lows from him.
"Apollo" by them is a super fun listen, you'll notice that their genre never settles in one area of metal, they are constantly changing and evolving their sound
Recommend checking out vids of Crystal Lake live, Ryo's a beast
They opened and i was expecting just any other opener, and then the drummer soundchecked and i knew i was in for a treat
If you liked this you NEED to hear Disobey from Crystal Lake as well, he does some whistle screams I believe is the correct term at the final breakdown at the end of the song, definitely want to hear the technical breakdown of that.
Honestly, it is so helpful for you to go through metal vocals and to break them down like you do and it has helped me to try and pick up more harsh vocals and I'm thankful that you do this for all of us. Thank you so much! Also, can you please react to Signs of the Swarm - Pernicious because I'd love to see your reaction on Dave's vocals!
ah man I cant wait to see this, I know what ill be watching on my break at work :')
Crystal Lake live are an absolute masterpiece. Saw them in different locations (club, bigger hall, festival open area) and they always delivered!
Ryo is one of the best, if not the best, vocalist in the game right now. Dude's insane.
You should really react to Deviloof-Torture and explain to us how the singer did those weird noises. I'm sure You'll love to talk about his vocals
Honestly he should. His range and the things he can do with his voice is unbelievable.
@@Psyko_Star.Boy123 I hope that he sees our comments
Disobey is another amazing track by these guys. 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Oh, Into The Great Beyond as well.
This sparks joy
Glad you did this song. Crystal Lake is pretty dang good.
Crystal lake Disobey next!!!!!
Oh boy this going to be a fun one
Thank you for this! Please please please do an Angelmaker song next. They have 2 vocalists and they're both nuts, bloodthirster or day by day would be good.
Or Godless, or Abysmal, or ELE 🙃
First stanza was “Install! Thy kingdom of glory!” Anyway, loved the detailed explanations. Learned a lot from this video. Keep it up!
PS. The song name is a challenge cause it’s Latin. It’s actually pronounced “Eey-on,” with a long E sound. But I still loved the video. You’ve inspired me to do a lot more practicing to get better at vocals.
I got to met Ryo, the lead vocalist for Crystal Lake, he is a very humble and down to earth person considering how demonic his vocals can go. He is fantastic live, I recommend checking them out live
Wow that dude put nearly every technique available in this one tune. I'm definitely going to be looking into this band more.
edit: bought pretty much their entire discography, they fuckin rule
Ryo (the vocalist) is absolutely insane live
IMO Ryo is in the top 5 for metal vocalists right now. Love this band.
Disobey and Holy Roller feat. Ryo
Aeon is a real banger ^^
Disobey or Devilcry 100% have to be next Crystal lake song if you want to revisit them again.
Coldrain did an amazing song with the singer from Crystal Lake, it Mayday.
I heard them live. Awesome. Also got selfie with Ryo)) he is very nice guy)))
Def felt the exact same way when I first saw/heard this song vid! \m/
This track is amazing!!!! Hits really hard
Hey mate love your stuff, you mentioned that you can strengthen your voice through exercising the muscles. In your next video do you think you could give an example of a basic exercise one could do, would that be more of something you'd do in lessons? Also would love to see a reaction to some older metal like manowar would love to know how to get those high belts to contrast with the grit I'm working on.
Building that kind of stamina is definitely the type of stuff that we go over in lessons a lot, but you have to have a bulletproof foundation first. I can definitely try and talk about it a little more on subsequent videos, but ultimately nothing is going to quite compare to the level of depth and personalisation that I can do in the classroom!
13:08 So I can do this exact vocal. First of all I am not a vocal expert but plan on getting some coaching. When I do this vocal, I get a lot of vibration and irritation right above my adams apple. If you follow right down the bottom of your jaw/face to your neck and your fingers will stop right above your adams apple, this is where mine comes from. If my throat does not have the right "lubrication"/saliva it will sound different and irritate it. I also flex my abdominals. The sound I use to project this is almost like you're stretching with your arms above your head arching your spine and let out a "uhhhh" in relaxation/relief, breath is not tight, but flowing outward like a "bad chi" with a groan or something.
Crystal lake is genuinely one of the best bands in the metal game right now. They cannot release a bad track
he did a holy roller collab with spiritbox too :)
Dude, Spiritbox featured Ryo on alternate version of Holly Roller! It's so good!
Instant like. My man Ryu is a beat!
I think that low at the end there is a vocal fry on a whisper, which makes the whisper a lot louder
YES MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED FUCK YESSSS
I always appreciate these break downs, if you could do a reaction video to Crystal Lake's live performance of their song "Hail to the Fire" at resurrection fest 2019 sometime that would be really sweet too, i think you'd get a good kick out of that.
Hard to believe not that long ago i subed at only like 40k subs and look at how big youve gotten also i still say teacher teacher by jinjer would be an amazing song for you
It feels like during the super low, Ryo juts his bottom jaw forward as well as pulling his jaw to his chest. Feels like he is getting the tone with a mix of doing a fry in that style but somehow leaving it open.
Glad to see some Japanese stuff! There is a lots of great stuff here, and I could recommend so much, but I think a good place to start is some Dir en Grey. I feel like that low section is similar to the lows that Kyo from Dir en Grey usually does. For a music video, maybe something like 激しさと、この胸の中で絡み付いた灼熱の闇 (Hageshisato, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami). That shows a bit of his range.
Masked dude in the chair is a guest vocalist from another band. Ryo Kinoshita is the Crystal lake frontman.
Love your explanations and Videos man, keep up the good work!
You should check out their live performance from the resurrection Festival: Ryo is a beast live!
Such a great song
LETS GO
