9 Days After Facelift, She Looks Like This

55 year old Mindy came to see me because although her upper face already looked fantastic, her lower face and neck showed laxity that bothered her. This laxity was due not only to the natural aging process, but also to previous surgery many years ago. I performed a deep plane extended lower facelift with a deep neck lift.
Her pain, bruising, and swelling were all low, but she did experience some temporary "sleepiness" in her lower left lip that we think might have been exacerbated by a chin reduction surgery that she had performed. About 1 in 30 patients will have experience this type of temporary nerve weakness, and it usually goes away in about 6 weeks to 6 months. In Mindy's case, she saw noticeable improvement within 5 days.
Her previous chin surgery also loosened her digrastric muscles, a pair of muscles under the jaw that aid in swallowing, chewing, speech - and when slack, become very noticeable when smiling. In order to reduce the appearance of the digrastric muscle, I planed off a bit of the muscle while sculpting the neck area.
The vast majority of patients are fully presentable within a few weeks of surgery with full results taking about a year for all the healing to take place.
