Nice video and you covered some important information. Your next and continuing inspections will be the horizontal seam and caulk that runs on the front cap down towards the front hatch. It is the one you caulked after you reinstalled the fiberglass piece you dropped. The caulk and trim piece will separate when there is a problem. I always get flack for my next statement. Every chassis coming to GD needs to be reinspected. Welds measured and tested. I find it very intriguing that builders like New Horizons and Space Craft can build a heavy 40 foot unit and still use only 4 points on the chassis for leveling and be just fine.
Space Crafts are built on full fledg HDT trailer frames. They run the same axels and air brakes. I personally haven't researched the New Horizons frames yet though.
I'm glad that I'm not full time. We travel weeks at a time, but, when we get back I go over the RV just to see what repairs I have to do. Our biggest problem is the highways. Some of them are worst than the gravel roads we sometimes travel.
Great video! What many RVers don't understand is that you are towing a home in gale force to category 1 hurricane winds across roads that essentially simulate a Richter 4.0 to 7.0 earthquake. The RV has to survive all of that pretty much undamaged. The larger the RV, the more these effects become critical. We found out last month that some of the rough roads don't treat you or your trailer vary well. With all the attention on the Interstate highway maintenance, the older Federal highway system has deteriorated in many areas to where I wouldn't take any trailer (travel trailer or 5th wheel) down them. We put about 3700 miles on our trailer in 2 1/2 weeks last month and hit some really harsh pavement. Our trailer did fine but we may have damaged our heater. We have some frame flex on our River Ranch. The outside walls move separately from the frame; it’s the wildest thing. Everyone tells me we have a cracked frame, but I have double-checked. Thank you for talking about this!
I love you guys! I can't believe the timing of this video!!!! THANK YOU! I just bought a 2021 Momentum 397TH from a guy who only used it 3 months and I got an AMAZING deal on it. Well, I noticed the exact same issues up front and I ended up taking the front end apart and inspecting the frame just like you did because I thought the fame was falling apart. I'm glad that I'm not alone in this. It's like when you have a small cough and look it up on WebMD...all of a sudden you're gonna die tomorrow. Once our house sells and we hit the road full time...we have to meet up! Stay safe out there.

Just pick up our 2023 Alliance Avenue 32RLS on Monday. Traded our 2001 Cedar Creek. Your talking about frame flex, you should have seen the flex the old camper had every time I hocked the truck. Glad you got your hair under control again, although every video I would wonder " How messy is it going to be this time". Now the suspense is gone.
I pull a travel trailer toy hauler. It still has manual stableizers. If I crank 1 corner up, I can see the frame flex during camp set up. I never worry knowing that is how trailers work. It's a 2006, so it's been around a while. Also easy to see the frame underneath since it is 1 level (no 5er up parts enclosed). While inspecting the frame keep an eye on suspension parts like spring hangers for breaks or cracked welds. Better to catch it early than to break going down the freeway.
👍👍👍👍👍always make sure that all of the screws, nuts, bolts are always tight, if you don’t have an assortment of them, the get them. People say that RVS are a rolling earthquake, it’s understandable. If you haven’t done so yet check the axle bolts, shackles, etc. By the way if I had that many miles put on me I’d be flexing also😊😊
We had a new 45' toyhauler in 2011 when we stayed at Bay Bayou for 7 months. They made us change spots half way through into a tight spot. The pantry door was in a twist from the whole unit being torqued. They have to make these units so light to have the size and features. Most 45' units are already almost to heavy for a dually.
We just got our 2022 back from the factory. It had frame issue (lost Camber). We had exterior wall cracked through to the interior wall. We put out a video showing the damage. It has been repaired (supposedly). This cost us several thousands since we were displaced from our full time RV.
I live in Colorado and you are right, the roads are absolutely horrible. I was towing in the back areas of Western South Dakota about two weeks ago and their roads in the backwoods are 5x better than any Colorado road. It’s pretty sad. I hope everything turns out good for you guys.
Good info... we had some cracks in some key places involving g the cap of our 5th wheel... took it to Elkhart... took 2 weeks to repair... could have been much worse... got it independent suspension installed now that will hopefully help prevent any structural issues again... (on a side note, your hair cut looks great Todd 👍🏻)
I think after watching a lot of RVIng videos that you’re best solution is to try to make sure you have the suspension you can afford at your axles and the hitch also and the just drive sensibly down the road
I've about 2k miles on Suomo Springs study says it removes 60% of road shock easy to install so far wow well worth it Todd it may give you a little more piece of mind

Thanks... possibly use a bladder lift leveling tool as a wedge\protector for the fridge. It is a heavy rubber\plastic bag that is usually inserted under an object and inflated with an attached squeeze bulb that inflates it. They can lift 300 or more pounds. it would be like your Reese air bag for the fridge (but on the side)..
This is a great video!!I have watched thousands of videos about RVs and I have never heard of frame flex. Time to inspect our RV welds. 😂 We had a freakout because people kept posting about water tank dropping. I disassembled the whole bottom of the RV just to check. It would be a bad day if we have a 500 lbs water tank drop while doing 60 MPH.
I have a 2021 395m and I have the exact issues that you do in the bedroom and I dont blame that on rough roads, I just went to the GD national rally in Goshen In this year and I showed them my issues and they told me I had frame flex and it needed to get fixed, they set an apppointment for the repairs totaling 58 hours of shop time at their brand new customer service facility, There they removed my front cap and the peice that bends under the nose where the pinbox comes out. I requested pictures and what they sent me was pretty revealing they added about 40 lbs of 2x2 metal bracing and 4 large gussets to help with all the flex. this is a real issue and it will be the end of your rig if not addressed. they (GD) are very aware of this issue and while they say its a lippert issue they are not involving them. there were no charges from GD to fix my issue and while it was in there they did a quality review and found several more days of work that was needed even though I didnt even know it was needed. If you would like to contact me thats ok but im not sure how we do that without posting a phone # or email for the general public to see and im not up for that.
Now that you have checked out the frame flex on the front of your 5th wheel, time to check out the spring hangers and frame above them for stress cracking.

I have the Morryde Independent Suspension on my Solitude and have the exact same side cabinet movement that they do. I also have the same fridge movement when my slide comes in and out.
Todd, it all comes down to suspension components. We are already setting up for the crap roads out there. 1:. We bought a Trailsaver tsl5, 5th wheel plate. All air ride. 2:. Switching out the low capacity axles. Switching over to 10,000lb axles with oil bathed bearings 3:. Air ride main plate. 4:. Looked at IPS Suspension for each axle. Just too much money. However going to the Lipert airide system which is similar to over the road heavy haul trailers. 5:. Switching to Air over Hydraulic disc brakes. Better stopping distances. 6:. Plus our truck is full Air Ride suspension. We plan on purchasing a Grand Design Momentum 398m. Empty weight is just a hair under 17,000lbs. Also the Big Boss says your hair cut is aussome. 💇♂️. You may need to shore up the cabinets in the bedroom, so they don't fall on you one night. That would not be fun and if they are that loose then they could come down while driving or just sleeping. I know a lot of people talk about having to secure trim, cabinets, and stuff better in RVs after they get them when they are brand new. This looks like you might want to investigate that.
Hey Todd love the hair cut. I to had some problems with my frame I have a 2015 375TS keystone raptor toy hauler. We had a crack develop on the bottom left corner on the bedroom slide we have a east west bed so there is some weight on that side. It took 3 visits for the RV repair shop to get it fixed. They finally had to take the side wall off forward of the slide where they found welds that had broke and that Lippert hadn’t put some braces in the side wall. This was pre COVID so it was just shoddy work we called lippert and you can guess what they said when they were called camper is 7 years old we won’t cover it. All in all it was a 5000$ fix and I will give a shout to Bob’s RV of Marion NC they did a outstanding job and if somebody has a problem and in the area they will treat you right.
Switch It My advice get rid of your 5 th wheel trailer, buy a Big rig style of Trailer that hooks onto the rear of the Artic units Trailer,, One front steering axle hooks onto a tow bar fixed to the chassis of towing vehicle , One fixed axle @ the rear , loads now sitting on 2 axles one @ either end , No more Twisting , Folding up Chassis legs , means towing Pick up has lost the 5 th wheel coupling , allowing more space for equipment , such as Gas & Fuel Tanks etc.
Our 3 year old, 30k mile Grand Design Solitude S-Class 2930RL-R has the exact same cabinet rubbing wear in our bedroom. Started out looking like yours. Gradually gotten worse over time. Rough New England roads on our current trip didn't help. Took it to Elkhart lady week for GD inspection. They don't think it's a huge issue, but are wanting some weight info next. Will see where it goes. They seem to be willing to help. Also, my residential fridge also moves when the side goes in and out. Mine has been reinforced by the dealer. Only difference is that mine is perfectly square when the side is in, but looks like it's leaning slightly to the right when the slide is out.
Hey, I have a 399TH (2022) Manufactured in 2021. I had/have “frame flex”, my pin box was flexing 2” between hitched and unhitched. The ride was very “soft” and bouncy. The SRT team came out and found that there were missing bolts in the forward most part of the frame that holds the walls to the frame. Also, our passenger side bolts were backed out. I can get you information on how to inspect. (Easy to inspect) Our bedroom had the same ware marks that yours does. (Same bedroom setup also)
We travel around in a 337rls. We don't move around as much as y'all do but haven't noticed anything with our grand design. Our rig is not as heavy as yours and we also travel around 60-65 mph. You really needed a haircut, LOL. BTW, like the new truck. 😁

Just got mine back they reinforced the leopard Fame on both i-beams left and right and put in gussets left and right in gas compartment I think that's too eliminate some of the flax hope this helps

We had to adjust our slide after a while it got real tight on one side. UA-cam for the instructions. And Our awning arm didnt line up and shut all the way. And the other awning wasn't going out properly The awning fabric had slid a little and was causing tension. Who knew?!

I have several degree's, including Mech. Eng., to much education, including Notre Dame. I worked out of Detroit, followed by Chicago, "manufacturing" crudely speaking. A car/bike guy, raced for years, managed a major Nascar Team, hence machining/engine build/engineering, senior Engineer at "GM" relating to machining and gear production, hence your "transmission". I know the "Midwest" well, skilled labor was located in Mich., yes, the car industry, Illinois, Wisc. and Ohio. Indiana never was considered a "manu" state with the exception of the "RV" world and Elkhart, Ind. The 'TALENT" level was subpar as well as wages/salary. Through the years companies migrated to Indiana based on economics, or low wages, benefits etc., yes low cost of living. These "RV" companies exploded obviously through the years, BUT quality employees remained. Your "aluminum" subframe is an issue with these large-scale RV's, there are others. The weld itself, or "how you weld aluminum" is critical. The "axles" are critical coupled with the suspension!!!!! Grand Design has these "flashy" RV"s but quality, workmanship is an issue!!!!!, your "RV" is a "Ford" with a "Ferrari" paint scheme. LOL, sorry, not a "DICK", just tell it like it is....but great videos, thanks.
If I ever buy another rv it will have trailing arm suspension and some type of air ride hitch. When you're traveling its a combination of a strong storm and earthquake that rv is going through. Sad that mostanufacturers don't take that into account.
Good video 😀 grand design is a nice rig but definitely not the best there frame are not custom built liperd frame could be used on manufactured you just can't weld to fix the frame there are a few grand design with frame damage some by the axles you went to other manufacture and check the construction new horizon has a great frame they builded for each floor plan but you have to pay big price for it about 200 thousand or more that's the draw back it's what you can afford! But enjoy the travel 😄

Just got mine back they reinforced the leopard Fame on both i-beams left and right and put in gussets left and right in gas compartment I think that's too eliminate some of the flax hope this helps

We had to adjust our slide after a while it got real tight on one side. UA-cam for the instructions. And Our awning arm didnt line up and shut all the way. And the other awning wasn't going out properly The awning fabric had slid a little and was causing tension. Who knew?!

I have several degree's, including Mech. Eng., to much education, including Notre Dame. I worked out of Detroit, followed by Chicago, "manufacturing" crudely speaking. A car/bike guy, raced for years, managed a major Nascar Team, hence machining/engine build/engineering, senior Engineer at "GM" relating to machining and gear production, hence your "transmission". I know the "Midwest" well, skilled labor was located in Mich., yes, the car industry, Illinois, Wisc. and Ohio. Indiana never was considered a "manu" state with the exception of the "RV" world and Elkhart, Ind. The 'TALENT" level was subpar as well as wages/salary. Through the years companies migrated to Indiana based on economics, or low wages, benefits etc., yes low cost of living. These "RV" companies exploded obviously through the years, BUT quality employees remained. Your "aluminum" subframe is an issue with these large-scale RV's, there are others. The weld itself, or "how you weld aluminum" is critical. The "axles" are critical coupled with the suspension!!!!! Grand Design has these "flashy" RV"s but quality, workmanship is an issue!!!!!, your "RV" is a "Ford" with a "Ferrari" paint scheme. LOL, sorry, not a "DICK", just tell it like it is....but great videos, thanks.

Our fridge wasn’t locked in place. Dealer had to take care of it.
If I ever buy another rv it will have trailing arm suspension and some type of air ride hitch. When you're traveling its a combination of a strong storm and earthquake that rv is going through. Sad that mostanufacturers don't take that into account.
Good video 😀 grand design is a nice rig but definitely not the best there frame are not custom built liperd frame could be used on manufactured you just can't weld to fix the frame there are a few grand design with frame damage some by the axles you went to other manufacture and check the construction new horizon has a great frame they builded for each floor plan but you have to pay big price for it about 200 thousand or more that's the draw back it's what you can afford! But enjoy the travel 😄
