- Honda's Odyssey and Toyota's Sienna dominate the minivan category but Nissan thinks its boxy Quest is a worthy contender. Are they right?

KBB is really producing some well done reviews! This one was fun and informative, keep up the good work!
I find the evaluation of the cargo space in this review to be superficial. This reviewer immediately looked at the numbers and moved on. It seems to be taken for granted that the way in which the Sienna and Odyssey convert to a "cargo van" to be the most optimal. This is a matter of opinion and in mine, I believe it to be dead wrong. There's more to it than just numbers.
While the listed cargo space of the Sienna/Oddysey are much larger than that of the Quest, the numbers do not take into account the way that most minivans are actually used and the relative convenience of utilizing the space. As a minivan owner since 2000, I prefer the way that the Nissan Quest utilizes the available space because it makes "cargo van mode" conveniently accessible. In the Toyota and Honda, to reach the full cargo space listed, the rear seat folds into the well in the stern and the middle seats need to be REMOVED. This requires emptying of the well of anything that you regularly transport in the van, like jumper cables, tools, bungee cords, a portable air compressor, etc. This is a royal pain. Where do I put it in the meantime? I have to have extra cargo space in my garage for things things that I have to remove from the van? I've owned a van that operates like this, a Mazda MPV, (which we love). While I was initially attracted to the disappearing seat, I found, in practice, that removing everything from the well is very inconvenient. I've long since stopped doing that and if I need more space, I fold the rear seat backs forward and toss things onto their tops. I've NEVER removed the middle seats. Ever. So if I owned a Sienna or Odyssey, I would never achieve the amount of cargo space that they claim. So what good is it?
In the Quest, on the other hand, the seats all fold forward creating a flat floor buy just pulling some straps and clicking some levers. No cargo or seats have to be removed. This makes the cargo area shorter in height, but it makes it fully accessible with minimal effort. In order to achieve a flat floor, the well is covered with hinged panels. Because the cargo floor is higher, the well is deeper. This results in a more usable cargo space where it is used most often. In addition, because the seat doesn't fold into the well, I don't have to remove anything.
I suspect that because of the way people really use these vans, the cargo numbers between the Quest and the Sienna/Odyssey are more similar than advertised when configured for usable space. To compare apples to apples, the Quest's cargo area should be compared to the Sienna/Odyssey with the seats still in place and folded forward. In addition, the "cargo mode" eliminates the well storage. Does Toyota and Honda subtract that from the total? In the Quest, all of the cargo space listed is usable simultaneously.
I didn't include anything about the Chrysler products in here because I found the "Stow and Go" seats to be cheaply made, and hard to stow. Stowing the seats is awkward and the seats have to be set just right for the stowing system to work. Most of all, Chrysler significantly sacrificed comfort to make the seats stow-able.
I hope this helps some minivan shoppers out there.
yes, you are absolutely right. The Kia Sedona only allows the back seat into the floor and so is true of the Toyota and Honda. The Dodge products are cheaply made these days, and have had 3 of them, I speak from experience that there are issues with these vans.... The new model , the Pacifica, is well past $40k in price, and a comparison has to be made relative to price when shopping. The only $26k-$30k van is the Dodge Caravan and Nissan, but the Nissan allows better floor use of space in cargo mode. The Sienna and Honda Oddessy are very high in price and not very negotiable.
I find the evaluaion of the cargo space
This comment here. I know it's 10 years old, but this is exactly what I'm looking at. I've moved states before and will likely do so a few more times in my life, one very soon in fact, on top of liking to do road trips and travel around with my dog. Max space is nice, but if I have to remove seats for it, it pretty much defeats the purpose. It isn't just inconvenient and bulky; I can't leave my seats behind for a big move. It'd be completely impractical. For generally better pricing and MPG, this is the winner for me, as far as getting a slightly older used car goes.
@@Adelaide_Cuthbert The only issue is that I no longer have the car because the CVT went.
I drove my Nissan Quest since 2012, and I can say that is very fun to drive but I don't recommend the fabric because in just 5 years it got wore down. About the technical side, the engine is 3.5 and it pretty good if you like to drive out of town. I like to do matenance by myself so it's very hard to replace spark plugs and the back/rear side of the engine, you have to spend half of your day to do this job. It will very practical if this van had 8 seats.
One of the best videos I ever did see and I've been for months looking at car very detailed very excellent very to the point where it was enjoyable watching and I understood all the different courts
I own a 2015 platinum. It now has 47,000 miles and i still love the look of it and love driving it. I wish Nissan would sell the Elgrand in the states. I would buy one.
I'm 13 and my parents bought this van (sl). the van gets a whole lot less credit for how good it is, because I actually love the car..it's awesome, looks unique, and is comfortable for older kids like me(minivans are mention for younger kids like 9 or babies, or large families). even with the van full, it is still more comfortable than 2 people in my dad's camry
You might not be in the start because it'd crash rating is bad
Do you still have the quest 9 years later 🥲🥲
10 years later 23 year old adult
That quest is VERY unsafe…
why is nobody talking about the 3rd row seats that are about as comfortable as a park bench? I had to sit through a 3 hour road trip and by the end of it I was so sore and I'm only 14.
I am 10 we had a 2007 Nissan quest it was the best 3 hour road trip in the second and 3 row my cuzing think so too I has been in a 2016 my grandma and me lovvveeesssss ittttt
I am wondering why no one is mentioning the crash rating, its terrible
Great review! Thanks I am in the market now and this helps!
NEW HOME SALES don't get one of the newer ones it was ranked as one of the worst crash tests
Love your new video format. This one was fun and informative, good job!
I like the under storage in the trunk. My 2008 rav4 has it and I love the extra storage space. My only concern with the Quest is the transmission.
why do PRO car reviewers bother with talking about the suspensions lack for sporty driving and that there is never steering feel... who he hell cares! its a mini van! thats like comparing a supercars lack of trunk space
I extremely forgot that Nissan makes the quest the need to redesign it it now
Unfortunately, the Nissan Quest is discontinued. Won’t they more minivans such as Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler Pacifica?
This would be my first choice for a Minivan except for the IIHS crash tests
Same after that im like NO! they have good suvs but they cant do minivans
Yes that’s too bad. It really undermines the Quest which, beside that serious shortcoming, seems to be an excellent minivan 😕
great review. keep it up! :)
this was an enjoyable and informative review
When you buy a new car the company charges you freight. So you pay for the shipping and any other fees associated with getting the vehicle to the dealership from the factory
This van was one 6-speed auto away from being a competitive car. Alas, the CVT, like in many Nissans, makes an otherwise compelling product uncompelling.
Is amazing how they lost so much value
I keep finding 2016's for $10.000 to $12000 every day
0:24
it gets a poor rating on a 40 mph small overlap crash on iihs
Didn’t the iihs say that it’s the worst performing minivan it’s ever seen since the Pontiac trans sport
Unfortunately, yes
Whey this car is not available in gulf countries???
"Lower Than The Dodge Grand Caravan" I didnt know it was so hard to make a step into a caravan. I have one and it is not hard at all.
*Higher
@@ethansflavor ,Sorry No comment.

Put a GT-R engine in the Quest then everyone will love the Quest. Nissan needs to put more energy and work in the Quest, to be competitive with Honda and Toyota.
What about the CVT issues? No mention of this. They CVT goes out right at 80 to 90k.
It has a traditional auto trans and the CVT will alot longer if owners take care of it with 30k mile cvt fluid changes.
Nice video
a bit late for a 2012 review?
whats including destination?
Was at Toronto sick kids today and a Nissan minivan had crashed into a bus with 6 kids in it. Code orange, It was a war zone. After watching the crash rating video praying extra hard but the driver probably didn't make it. Damn you Nissan! Worst mini van safety rating and your still selling it. Shame on you!!!
*you're.
They don't the stopit this year there are no 2018 quest
My mom went on a trip to Detroit and she had to get a rental and she chose this
+Kelly Blue Book
How tall are the both of them at 4:14?
+dyip32 Micah is 5' 10", while James (taller guy) is 6' 4".
I think the 2016 Kia Sedona is much better Than this
Yes they right
The Quest Sucks....but your new video format ROCKS!
This is what Bratayley used to have! But they had a white one
I like the 3rd row seating but Honda's Minivan wins again
nissan is boss!
nice review. odyssey wins
Dodge Grand Caravan Wins :)
BarsottiFam Honda always. Very safe minivan. I love dodge but sadly it's not the safest crash test and neither is the quest this quest is worse than the caravan.
Toyota wins once again
Mhm 2016 Nissan Quest but this was released in 2012
The nissan quest said it was 2016 the video came out 2012
this video was made in 2012 but the title says 2015
Now it says 2016
The need to create more conform space the family wants to travel like an inside of a spaceship
I can't wait till KIA unveils the new KIA Sedona!
I saw that the nissan quest is the most unsafe minivan in the market😰😰😰😰
It is in the small overlap crash. Moderate Overlap and side crash it ranks good.
Noah Mascarin
The car looked worse than the Pontiac Trans Sport
And the transport was a terrible crash test rating
Mercury Villager?
Nah it’s the Chrysler Town and County/Dodge Grand Caravan
@@Peach-ok9zlthe Trans Sport was worse due to higher injury measures
You hardly ever see one of these on the road. Horrible exterior design.
David Sanchez I saw one in a Fred Meyer parking lot today
David S. I own a 2012 Quest SV...
Looks like something that would be driving around in Tokyo
terrible crash test ratings don't help either. I mean one of the minivan's most important jobs is to be safe since they are primarily used for transporting children.
I actually think it looks really great (it’s based on the Japanese Nissan Elgrand), but it’s been ignored by consumers mostly because of its poor crash ratings.
They named it wrong that's a 2012 quest not a 16
ultracogamimg s that same design has been used through the 2011-2017 year model
GREAT NISSAN.
2018
(2001-2016)
What a hot car! Bet it smokes the 911.
this video came out in 2012 what
Keep the van, i'll take the driver!
Harry Mitchell wtf
knuckleuprambo 😂😂
like how it looks but its a rolling death trap.
I'd rather take the Grand Caravan over any Quest.
Grand Caravan is unsafe as hell so no thanks
كانت عدي بس أغراضه غاليه
Nisan gussied 2015 tepztig
كانت عدي
it's a minivan right... don't expect ferrari design cues
worst crash test 😂
Such uninspired styling. Meh.
