One of my favorite episodes. In the context of her conquest, i think this was the single best thing she could have done. She needed a win. And the only people that died were Lannister Army men, no civilians died, and she decimated the 'spoils' they got from Highgarden. At this point in the show, i was all-in on Dany. This was a win-win for Dany.

    Referring to 17:51
Daenerys actually did listen to Jon's advice. He said that she would be no different when she burns cities (meaning when she kills innocent civilians and burn down their houses). She didn't do that. Instead, she just used Drogon and the Dothraki to kill soldiers and burn the spoils of war from Highgarden.

@@bradcarver8127 Yeah, the battle tactics in GoT are almost always pretty stupid, to be honest. And most of the episode here was just fanservice after fanservice. A spectacular battle with a fire-breathing dragon and the whole Dothraki horde without a major character dying, even though there were a bunch of them involved on both sides. The thing that always gets me about watching Bran and Arya and Sansa's reunion is not even just the characters reuniting but the actors. The last time they were onscreen together was literally Episode 1 of Season 1, they were all practically babies then, basically new to this world of professional acting, and now nearly a decade-ish later they're back together as actual adults with experience in acting and in these roles as these characters. It must have been such an interesting experience for them.

I will never understand why people call Dany evil for doing this. Like every other character hasn’t participated in war and killed others. Dany and her dragons are their Karma. I also think this episode is a great example of how people will easily forgive the actions of men because they make us laugh but demonise a woman whose always had good intentions, just for having more power.

A man that would let men and horses r*pe her. A man that threatened to cut her baby out of her. I will never take someone, who thinks not crying over your abusers death makes you ‘mad’, seriously.
Lastly, she made no horrible actions before season 8 that made her ‘mad’. She made mistakes, yes. But people love to take her mistakes and make them out like she’s evil. But ignore the actions of everyone else.

@@chlc4305 You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. Her brother/abuser certainly deserved to die, but the shocking manner should have prompted some response. Even if you ignore that example (easily the most justified btw) there are numerous examples of her mental decline as early as S1.
Burning the healer that killed Her husband alive was horrible. Yes she deserved death, but it was unnecessarily brutal.
Her servant betraying her certainly warranted a death sentence, but being locked in an uncrackable safe to at best suffocate and possible die of starvation/dehydration was uncalled for.
The slavers deserved death, but crucifixion was also spiteful and unnecessary.
These are all evil acts, no matter how you justify them and we can't simply choose to ignore the fact that she defaults to brutality EVERYTIME.
To be clear, she's no worse than anyone else in the show, male or female, but she's not better either. As a person I love her, but her actions aren't justified in my mind.

A little tidbit is that near Highgarden is also where the "Iron Fist" army of House Lannister and House Gardener (who ruled The Reach before the Tyrells) fought Aegon Targaryen's invasion of Westeros. It's called the Field of Fire as the entire army of the two Houses was burned down by Aegon's dragons. After the battle it is in these fields Lorren Lannister bent his knee to Aegon the Conqueror. So this battle, the sides and the outcome mirror those events. But Jon should now that after subduing the south Aegon turned his eye northwards...maybe the new Conqueror will do the same.

The magnitude of how they shoot that battle feels huge. The whole episode is a perfect storm of action, drama and emotion. Hell they even manage to squeeze in a reunion in all this. That alone would've been the focus of the season finale of other shows. Here it's just a throwaway. For all the complaining this gets, most directors would feel lucky if they put out something 1/4th as majestic as the finished product here.

I do think Dany was being unfair to Tyrion. He has no reason or motive to aid Cersei or her position and Dany knows Tyrion has done things Cersei hates him for and vice versa. Even still, his plan was pretty solid, its just that The Greyjoy fleet has learned the power of teleportation. Who could have planned around that? I'd also ponder how Euron got his hands on the ability to see into the future as he just "knew" where both The Unsullied and Dornish and Yara's fleets were moving about. I mean for all we know Euron is some eldritch being who can bend space and time to his will. That or the writers are just making stuff up as they go regardless if it makes sense.

It’s also been mentioned euron spreads his fleet around in flotillas so he’s also got ships at casterly rock - which Jamie would know Tyrion would want to attack (Jamie also knew of Tyrion’s secret tunnels) so he abandoned it and set Tyrion up to “fail” by taking his army to high garden and leaving euron to destroy dany’s fleet at casterly rock. Which is also why Dany thinks Tyrion blew it - his strategy was too predictable by his bff bro. It would’ve been a solid strategy if it wasn’t against someone like Jamie that knows Tyrion better than anyone else 🤷‍♀️

How grandiose was the scene of Dothrakis breaking through the Lannister lines while Drogon flies over the skies menacingly as the inferno raged underneath. The Dothrakis all jumping on their horses at the same time with the war music playing that gets you all fired up? That shot was insane too. The choreography of that fight is off the chain! Some award winning shit right there. Like King Robert said so long ago, "only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field". Who would've thought then that it will be Jaime who ends up drawing the short end of the straw? Poor Jaime gets completely rolled over by the horselord hordes smh. Hard for me to watch.😔

But prior, Jon vs Theon, Arya coming home… Jon in another cave scene with a chick… the Brienne and Arya sparring. Bran calling out LF. Fantastic. Just when I think they can't top the immensity of the previous battles, the visuals of the loot train battle leaves me impressed. The Dothraki to Tyrion : "Your people can't fight". For a not so good season, this episode is better than the best episode of most shows. The battle of the loot train is one of the most visually stunning battles I've seen on screen and my opinion hasn't changed years later no matter what the haters say. No wonder superbowl numbers were watching at this point. Living up to your own standards can be a bitch sometimes. For all the post-facto purist whining, it's hard to find anything on television that even remotely matches the scale of this episode. In reality many amazing scenes from even this season leave you with your jaw hanging. But to purists it's almost as if GRRM's greatness cannot be established unless you go out of your way to shit on everything else. Some of the things they nitpick and whine about are jawdroppingly petty. Yet these 'experts' have the most remedial, superficial understanding of character psychology which they try to hide by wishful appeals to the source material. When they aren't too busy trivializing Ramsay ***** jokes on freefolks sub that is. Ironic thing is that these are the vindictive cretins who think of themselves as the supreme gatekeepers and perception makers of the series. I've seen toxic fandoms, but the pettiness and sycophancy of the freefolks type Asoiaf purists hellbent on discrediting even all the good stuff is next level psychotic.

You had remorse for Jamie and his army they just killed everyone including Olenna Tyrell by poison lets not forget about Sand people that were all killed. Danny was getting revenge for all of them I think we all seem to forget that fact that in this world you pick a side if its Danny comes fire that's her weapon period like Jon has a sword to wield and Jamie has a sword and army at his command the Dragon queen has her dragons that's where she started that's her power so burning your enemy is no different then beheading them all like Jon or Jamie would do if given a chance to Danny in a war. I didn't feel any remorse for Jamie army the only one I felt anything for was Jamie and Bronn no one wants to see them die but if its them or Danny I am team DRAGON QUEEN ! You burn your enemies or Arya poison them all what's the difference between Arya killing everyone that has wrong her or Danny killing everyone that wrong her family something to realize all of her family was wiped out in Kings Landing by the Jamie family yet Arya killed the whole house of Frey for just her mother and brother being killed. So weigh it her brother wife, kids and father all butchered by the people of Kings Landing compared to only 2 Starks from the Frey. Its a good argument what is enough revenge in this era of time seems to be a double standard in this show up to this part of the show we know a lot now what started the war ? It was Robert and Ned rebels over Lenna who had a child named Jon with Danny brother it was 3 eye Raven who drove the King mad Jamie hinted to that when he said over and over again burn them all burn them all sounds a lot like Hodor even the 3 eye Raven admitted he tried to warn the King yet it drove him mad. So 3 eye Raven actually drove the King mad people seem to over look this fact in the story! Starks were not on the good side of the war , Rhaegar was on the good side his father was drove mad by the 3 eye Raven just like Bran friend Hodor was messed up by him. Rhaegar should of been King period , Sir Arthur Dayne deserved better then being stabbed in the back while protecting Lenna and Rhaegar baby. The tragedy is Danny as a child lost everyone in her family blood line because of the lie from day one! Something to think about if Dragon queen just poisoned all her enemies all at once or burn them does it really changed the fact she kills them all because its war. The Game of thrones isn't a nice friendly game , the question I ask both you think it over then answer this question why do ya think the NIGHT KING IS COMING ? I think the answer is simple if you really think about the question!

Like I said double standard depends on who is doing the killing I guess. But in the end Starks and Lannister's were the same out for there own family period it came down to there own ! Dragon Queen freed slaves had nothing to do with her family or home she did it because she thought it was right. Who are we to argue she was put into slavery since being a baby has no one left because of the people of Kings Landing she don't know Cersei or the Mountain for that matter all she knows is KINGS LANDING is where he family were all killed. To be 100% honest Dani would hate everything about Kings Landing the people of Kings Landing are not slaves they support Cersei there not in chains or bondage.

Yeah I'll say it, the Field of Fire battle sequence is better than the description of any battle in the books, including Blackwater. The shots of the Dothraki charge scene alone is worth the admission price. BTW the insane nitpicking about Jaime is laughable when you think of the 'heroic survival rate' in battles in your average shows/movies. The poignant ending of the last episode & the battle sequence of this one is quite frankly, great. But of course at this point it's blasphemy to say anything positive about D&D. All the fandom opinions become some bad-faith variation of "they ruined this or that" & you get browbeaten if you point out the positives. Some criticisms are justified, but most are laughably minor inconsistencies, straight up retroactively inventing faults, crying about why they condensed 500 page subplots, & insane nitpicks over subverted expectations & just purists overcompensating with the hive mind circle jerk at GRRM's alter to cover for one's general lack of analytical ability to comprehend basic storytelling. Goes without saying that the overtly critical perception wasn't reflective of the viewership numbers as the show hit unheard of levels of popularity at this time, but it was a reflection of the fandom for whom the intents of every character in the show somehow became a three dimensional plot to demean the Stannis cult. But yeah, if you were watching without a preconceived notion from all the fandom negativity, you tended to have a different perception of the seasons. You can look at Season 7 as all trash because it's a show with 3 & half good seasons according to the purists, or you can look at it as a season with 22 Emmy nominations, tens of millions of viewers & enough fan investment for it to become the most watched drama series of all time.

It's an interesting juxtaposition with Dany mindlessly using her nuclear weapon to destroy most of Westeros food supplies. I've been waiting for her to cross the sea and destroy all those people I spent the whole show hating. But it was right there, the moment Jaime charged against her, I realized she won't be a good queen I didn't want her to win.
