@@Dumdragoon everything gets processed by the day, but because of coding magic, you can't actually have two things happen at the same exact time. the solution to this was to give nations priorities. for instance sweden is the highest priority.
a good example of this is if two armies are arriving to the same province on the same day. who gets there "first" is dependent on the nation's priority, or in other words "turn order"
as such, eu4 is technically a turn based strategy game. it's just that the turns go by really fast

Having recently got into Paradox grand strategy, I would happily allow myself to be welcomed to the vast and intoxicating world of grand strategy by Dagoth Ur!

NGL I did quit Civ 5 specifically because it didn't scratch my grand strategy itch. That's how I got into EU4

Civ and Total war are grand strategies in my opinions, but definitely not on the scale of paradox grand strategies. The genre definitions should be a bit broader than basically just paradox strategy games, otherwise it is fairly useless.
Nope it’s just because paradox are the only ones who actually do grand strategy for the masses Gary gritbsys war in the east 2 comes to mind but it just not as popular
No grand strategy is something different. Total war has both grand strategy (overworld map and managing) and normal strategy elements (battles). game like civ are strategy but not grand, it would be considerd 4X strategy. Look it up, even on steam there is seperate tags for them :)
