A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
I love that at the end the main henchman things he's having a profound staring contest with Eli, but in truth, he probably didn't realize he was still there and was just waiting to hear any other movement or shots
No. if you look at Eli's face is clear he is crying. It's posible "the voice" told him that the good was not as bad as it seems, but a result of this terrible environment. Maybe knew at that moment about the his dead (not Eli's but the criminal's)

Love how the bullets are going through him like the Lord is watching over him in the worst of situations. And I also think there is redemption for Redridge when he dies because he puts his gun down for a reason as if he's allowing the book to reach it's proper destination. Eli gave him a long stare as well.
Totally agree about Redridge! This was the beginning of his repentance. The look Eli gave Redridge at the end seemed to be a bit sorrowful, as if he knew Redridge. @@god0fgames100 Well, Gary Oldman's character in this scene basically told you what the book is. Just a tool used to justify whatever it takes to have control. He needed the words, words that are not seen to be those of man, words from a source unable to be questioned. Oldman's words are just those of a man and can be disagreed with. Oldman was tired of having to fight for control, he wanted power to be an easy street where the words compel the citizens to be self policing in his favour.

I believe you're missing the point that it's clearly implied that he's going to use it for his ends, not God's. The faith devotion the people would show to God is ancillary in his mind and to his purposes. he doesn't have the right mindset he's going to use it to subjugate the people to his will, and he wants to make it easier and kinder on himself. he didn't say anything about himself it was all in his mind a way to stop himself from having to do things the messy and distasteful way ... that's not what that message was meant to be used for.

Yes because you have no loyalty. Even if you had strongs believes and had a great gik for 50 years you would flush it all to the toilet and betray your boss.
After watching the film a few times I have started to believe/ see small hints throughout the movie that Eli was blind. The Earth's age is contested due to the unreliability of carbon dating. Why is it so hard to imagine humans having stronger genetic make up that would allow a longer lifespan? Only Lucifer speaks in the form of a serpent (and some other birds in Revelation, but being God, I imagine He can understand any creature's form of communication). There are no talking plants, anywhere. I think you're mixing the Bible and anime. Most cultures that exist have Great Flood legends, all of which correspond with each other. That one's mostly irrefutable. No one is undead; only dead, or alive. Those who are dead and revived have their life restored (key systematic difference there) to them. Unicorns? Really? Now you're just being stupid for stupid's sake. I think the true source for discredible information is your post, sir.
Jarlaxle Daerthe Flat earth? you clearly know nothing about the bibe. Isaiah 40:22. Anyone can nitpick things from a book without looking at it in its intended context while infusing their own false interpretation. I bet you think youre some enlightened being able to see what all christians cant huh?
I find it funny how you say God should want to do something as if you have some higher godly understanding of the way things should be done. What you don't realize is that your insistence on trying to scientifically verify everything defeats the purpose of having faith in the first place. Mutually exclusive scenarios apply to humans not God. What you think can't be able to happen, can happen through him. God is not stupid, he provides enough pieces for humanity to know him but leaves out just enough so that those who want to find it have to do it through faith. He builds just enough of the bridge so that you will still have to take a jump. Doing otherwise removes your ability to come to him of your own free will. He reveals himself to those who have made that leap in ways that those on the outside will say "that can be explained, just do this experiment", not knowing that they themselves were subjected to a perfect filtering system. Can you imagine what scientific validation of his existence would do. Faith would have no longer have any bearing on separating the righteous from the unrighteous. People who would've otherwise rejected God would have no choice but to accept him. Your need for this verification is irrelevant since God created all laws that allow verification to be conducted in the first place. He is above them, he wouldn't be a God if he wasn't. Your decision to move by sight and not faith is not some grand foolproof decision. It's predictable and puts you in a box that those who believe in God are aware of and mindfully avoid. Your God is science, evidence, and verification. That's good for you. Our God is the one who out those laws in place and is above them.
As I said before he only reacts when he hears it. When he approached the car, he heard the wind brush against it as it made a creeking sound. Before he opened the door he identified where the door was by slamming the cat against it. When he went into the house he tilted his head as he heard wood creek, he placed his hands against a bowl and dragged it across against other plates to get a sense of what was there. He did an alright job.
The director has confirmed eli was blind the whole movie its not up for debate and if you watch closely its alluded to throughout the film. Eli sweeps his foot around to find the severed hand early on, he cant see the water is dirty and only notices it when he smells it, he only fires in direct response to gunfire that is why he doesn't shoot Redridge because he doesn't know hes still standing. Watch his interaction with the hanged corpse at the start of the movie, many other things too.
There are many clues indicating he is blind. He smells the hijackers yet misses the trap door. The hijackers have a scent - the trap door doesn't. When he climbs the stairs he kicks the first step purposely. When he enters the shop we hear the bell ring which is meaningless unless it is a clue toward a character trait. He is well aware of his surroundings - he can shoot a bird, yet walks up highway over pass that has been destroyed. He heads west for 40 years in a wandering pattern.
it is stated at some point in the movie that there was a war on religion before the world was scorched. presumably, most of the bibles were destroyed during said war.
I agree. For a good 20 % of christians are living bibles. Even athiests know many of the chapters, verses and psalms. Seems like they could recreate it, pass it on by oral tradition, etc.
Mac Mcleod A great many people died in the time period of the scorch. That is why there are not many people who are in they’re 40’s & 50’s. Most people look old bcuz they age prematurely due to the harsh conditions the Earth was left in. Most people who had knowledge of the Bible died away. Bcuz those who had a hate for god and his word burned all the Bible’s they could find. In doing so, created a generation of people who knew nothing of the oral traditions of the Bible and spirituality. Eli is the holder of the last bible on the planet. The Holy Spirit moves him to be in the right place @ the right time to take and protect the last bible that would exists in the world, before it ever happened.
you can see eli's eye brows before he walks away at the end, he did not wan't to have to do that , seems like he was glad the guy wouldn't shoot at him because that would mean more violence.
KROSS777RLSH Eli didn't kill him because he is blind, and sees through the moment of others... the man didn't move, therefore he made no sound and Eli didn't notice him

When your gun has 100292837 bullies in one mag
Modern handguns can actually store more ammo than what he shot
Oliver Stone more like when you know nothing about guns and make a UA-cam comment lol
One of his best films!
Great movie....great meaning
Carnegie realizes Eli was sad about doing what he did.
He was also smart enough to realize by then that Eli was blind, he didn't shoot his gun at any times during the fight and he stood right where he was, without stepping so Eli couldn't hear him.
Denzel Washington at his best... Love this actor
EVERYDAY IS SOME TYPE OF STRUGGLE, STRIFE, CONTENTION AND BATTLES THAT WE ALL PERSONALLY FACE!
1. Joshua 1:9
"…Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
2. Psalms 33:20-22
"Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you."
3. 2 Samuel 22:2-4
And he said, "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; My savior, Thou dost save me from violence. "I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; And I am saved from my enemies."
4. Ephesians 6:11
"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."
5. John 15:13
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
6. 1 Corinthians 16:13
"Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong."
7. Psalms 46:1
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
amen!
thats what i believe i do daily! =)
Our God is the one who out those laws in place and is above them.
oldman's right hand man was pretty bad ass in that scene. He's just chilling in the middle of the street during the entire the gun fight
Probably only one of the reasons he didn't get shot, he didn't fire at him. Gotta love one of those subtle details.
I still cant get over his first shot let alone the rest of his shooting.
Listen to this with good head phones on and turn the sound up really loud. AMAZING
Damn, This shotgun shots are well made.
0:29 echolocation
Good catch!
Thank you Demian!!!!!!
3:37 I like that shotgun sound
The product placement is strong with this movie.
Ray Stevenson: Now there's the actor who should have played Jack Reacher.
And he was a pretty good Frank Castle too
he plot is baddass...what an amazin movie
3:03 when he screams "Take him out god damn it!" everyone was probably like WOAH, AMAZING SWEAR WORD.
I just took in this guys bulletproof
This is so much like the town Tull where the Gunslinger shoots it up in The Dark Tower book, jeesh.
LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
This was a kick scene, I LOVED THIS MOVIE TO THE BANK. GOD BLESS D.W. OMG
when you have to shoot, shoot don't talk
This guy should train "Star Wars" storm troopers, because even blind, his aim is more accurate than theirs!
Eli did the right thing not giving him that book
Denzel is just OP!
When you make your first modded gun on fallout
I love this film but seriously, billions of copies and not one person could find a Bible in all that time?
it is stated at some point in the movie that there was a war on religion before the world was scorched. presumably, most of the bibles were destroyed during said war.
Kevin Sullwold that and in the film on character said the enemy made it their mission to find and destroy any Bible they come across
I'M HERE, GOD!
Excellent
you can see eli's eye brows before he walks away at the end, he did not wan't to have to do that , seems like he was glad the guy wouldn't shoot at him because that would mean more violence.
yup.
eli wasnt there to fight or kill, he just wasnt to get along.
how we should all be, peace full.
so true.
but will never happen.
sadly war is in human nature conflct in general
I see
KROSS777RLSH Eli didn't kill him because he is blind, and sees through the moment of others... the man didn't move, therefore he made no sound and Eli didn't notice him
Now you see why Eli was so important in the world of Anarchy in chaos whoever possesses the book possesses the power of God
Only in hollywood, in asian cinema your body would have been chopped up a thousend time
The henchmen probably didn't have watches. They didn't know it's high noon.
