A tip for keeping your dog alive. When he's low on health, pick him up. Just hit E key when he's next to you. As soon as you place him in your inventory he is instantly healed. Redeploy him. You should be able to keep him alive indefinitely. Don't let him fight a group of Zombies by himself, call him to you when he's taking a beating. Hope this helps.
About the Walkman. It is used to play in game music. The cassette tapes you find add the tracks. Use the Enter key and Backspace key to activate and change tracks. The tapes you find are part of the Global Achievements system. Once you find a full set of tapes, and their are several sets. You get some buffs.
@DarkOneSon no you don't need the music playing for the buffs. I love the music tracks but they a little loud so might not be great for youtbe. Guess you can experiment.
