I liked your be kind to each other message, thank you. Very interesting on native plants, we are trying to introduce more into our garden here in Lexington KY
I love natives too & have done my best to add quite a lot of them to my garden, but I also have non-native and hybrids. There is room for both, I agree!
What a fun video! That last plant made me laugh, I love it. Maiden hair fern is beautiful. I will have to see if we have any native garden centers near me. Wonderful tips.
I couldn't decide which kind of garden I wanted, so I have different types in my yard. I have my native plants in the front yard, I have an English cottage garden full of hollyhocks (my favorite flower) by the front door, a woodland shade garden in the back, and a poison garden as my nod to Alnwick. I love my lilacs, lily of the valley and hostas. They aren't native, but they're beautiful, smell nice, and remind me of happy times at my grandma's house when I was young. You chose some fantastic plants, and the birds will thank you for the serviceberry trees later on!
Wild Cherry Farms in Chelsea also grows native flowers to Michigan. It's very nice and has a large selection of plants for butterflies, bees, etc. I love it!!!!
We are so lucky that our local community college has a great AG/horticulture program that puts on a spring and fall plant sale every year. They have an amazing native plant section among garden starts, succulents and other perennials that work in our growing zone. Love it! Feel very fortunate to have such a great resource - definitely look forward to their plant sales every year
I haven’t been there yet but found out I live about an hour away definitely wanting to check it out this coming spring. Especially now that I am buying a house of my own that I’ll have to landscape a bunch now.
I love the new additions to the Garden and thanks for the awesome info. Last year I planted a few serviceberry seeds from the tree in front of our house and this year a see new growth yeii. I pray we get a few trees to add to the orchard. I love to enjoy their beauty and also the berries are so yummy and beneficial! Take care Sue. May you have a blessed day!
Nice! I will have to check this place out when I plant my pollinator garden. I picked up some annuals to make hanging baskets from Blocks in Romulus a few days ago and really liked their nursery.
I’m in Zone 7 and my favorite native plants in my garden are the Oak Leaf Hydrangeas, Beautyberries and Amsonias. Every nursery in my area has a native selection which varies considerably during each season of the year. Each year my husband and I try to add a few more natives to support all the birds and pollinators that inhabit our suburban garden. The natives look great with the azaleas, rhododendron, astilbes in the small woodland area. Diversity in the landscape is what we enjoy most. Thank you for a lovely video.
I don’t have any native plants in my garden and I am looking forward to adding some soon. In a couple weeks, I’ll be going to a native plant sale in St. Clair, MI. I’m hoping to find some of these, especially the Prairie Smoke plant. I really loved the way they look and I agree they do look like a Dr. Seuss plant lol.
I have been impressed with how little care the plants I added this season require. I can't wait for those prairie smoke plants to bloom next season. I can't wait to see what you get.
I absolutely agree, the hybrids are great. I find a lot of natives might look boring, so a hybrid is a great option for something with more personality. Many of the nurseries in my area have a native section which is great. Those smaller flowers have foliage that really reminds me of geum 🤔
Great video! I just went to an annual native plug sale in my area in Northern Illinois. Through a friend I found out about this sale at a local green house 3 years ago. This year we split a flat to get even more plants. I do have a woodland area in my backyard as well, that I am trying to fill with a variety of native shrubs and perennials. There are non native plants as well, since I wasn't really sure how it would come together 3 years ago. I love the Wild Geraniums I have there now, plus Monarda, Golden Alexanders, Verbena Hastata, Agastache, Mountainmint and a native Viburnum.
I have been drawn more and more to natives and love that I’m not fighting our climate to grow them! We recently added cinnamon ferns and serviceberry to our garden. Don’t write off the serviceberry berries, they are delicious And very similar to blueberries. They have been so much easier to grow than blueberries for us!
Thanks for posting this! I love your nuanced position on native planting. I definitely agree. Also, i never even thought about there being a nursery that sells native plants. Makes a lot of sense and i hope to see more and more of them around! I think we will see more of them because i think a lot of people are starting to get back in touch with nature and really have that joy for gardening and taking care of the environment and just generally appreciating the beauty of the world around us. I paused your video and immediately clicked that link you shared and i did find a nursery around me that sells native plants. Its an hour drive away, which is a bit far for me. But im sure i will go to it one day when i know i have some money to spend and a plan for the plants i buy. I can sometimes get carried away and buy plants because i just fall in love, but then i get them home and im not sure where to put them and they start to make me feel stressed when i see them (which is the opposite of what i want haha). Anyways, really thanks for sharing that link and the idea about a native plant nursery, i had never thought of that! Oh and also, i think that plants and insects and wildlife are very adaptable. I know they are! I think a lot of people focus on native planting because certain things can be “invasive” but at this point, i think we are just too far past the point of no return. The world is a big place, but also a small place because of how easy it is to travel. I don’t think there is a way to ever return things back to being completely native. Plants and insects will continue to travel around the world as long as people are also traveling. I don’t think there is a way to stop that. I think we can have these ideas that nature/wildlife lives in perfect harmony without humans interfering and messing it up. But nature is a messy and sometimes scary and sometimes cut throat place haha. Nature can handle itself and adapt. I believe in that. (But i also believe in being a conscious gardener.)
I'm moving to a house with an established garden in Illinois. I'll be removing the non-native invasives (vinca) to install a woodland border of native plants. Please keep me updated on the progress of this project. I'll be following closely!
Great information. I'm aiming to reclaim my weed sanctuary with native plants that don't need too much maintenance. We have a lot of nice plants native to Japan, so I'm enjoying doing some research.
Thanks for the informative vid. I have the plant with yellow flowers at the 2:30 mark on your vid. Do you know the name of it as I have forgotten. Thank you.
The sure have a lot of inventory! We don't really have a lot of nurseries like that where I live. Some of the nurseries I visit have a super small area with natives but normally they look so sad IMO that they don't really look appealing :(
I'm sorry. I thought people would get bored. I did include the complete list in the description and I will be sure to point them out in future garden tours. They are growing great!
Native plants are not sterile nor are they genetically modified and are far more resilient to environmental changes and disease. They are loaded with nectar, berries and seeds that reliably sustain wildlife, not to mention the best nesting too. They will outlast most of the hybrids!
Thanks for the wonderful information and good luck with your new plant 🪴 if u can please give us update to see how they look like when they mature that will be great ❤
Isn’t this earth just beautiful, got to love ALMIGHTY GOD’s creation! My fellow gardeners, JESUS IS COMING SOON, REPENT AND TURN TO HIM. HE has changed my life forever and can do the same for you! HIS ARMS ARE OPEN, JUST COME TO HIM! Love you all❤ ……………… Great video by the way😊😉
Prairie smoke’s flower head is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. It looks like cotton candy 😊
The seed heads are so cool!
I liked your be kind to each other message, thank you. Very interesting on native plants, we are trying to introduce more into our garden here in Lexington KY
Thank you. We really need to be kind to one another. Especially gardeners!
I love natives too & have done my best to add quite a lot of them to my garden, but I also have non-native and hybrids. There is room for both, I agree!

Your garden sounds wonderful.

Thanks for the tip Susan. I am realizing I need to get out more...ha ha.
@@GardenMoxie You're very welcome!
Thanks for using native plants!!!!
I'm excited to add these beauties to my garden.

That is very lucky. I agree.
Well, haven’t I just found a lovely channel?! Thank you from the same plant zone on a NH coast island.
Thanks so much.
I haven’t been there yet but found out I live about an hour away definitely wanting to check it out this coming spring. Especially now that I am buying a house of my own that I’ll have to landscape a bunch now.
I thought it was a wonderful nursery. Good luck with your new garden. How fun!
Wonderful topic , Thank You for your reference of the web sites. Totally agree 😉 , we can all get along!
Thank you. I'm glad you found the links helpful.
We have been adding natives to our garden for the past few years. My biggest thrill was finding monarch caterpillars on my milkweed last year.
We babysat an emerging Monarch when my neighbors were away for the weekend. That was AMAZING to see!
I love the new additions to the Garden and thanks for the awesome info. Last year I planted a few serviceberry seeds from the tree in front of our house and this year a see new growth yeii. I love Blocks. Such great prices.

Thanks for your note. I love Oak Lead hydrangeas too. It sounds like you have great local nurseries. That's fantastic.

That foliage does look geum. Great observation.
Great video and thank you for the resources !
I really enjoyed the food for thought on seeking out nursery for native plants 🤞
Thanks so much for watching the video. I am glad you found the resources helpful.
Or find seeds online, they ship easily
Wonderful collection of plants Sue 🥰 I cannot wait to see them all bloom 🥰
Thanks so much. I need to get them all in the ground now.
Thank you. 🌷💚🙃
Thanks for watching.

Thank you. Wow! Your woodland garden sounds amazing.
Well, some of the plants are still young, and there is a lot of Carex in between.
Thanks for watching. You are right about the berries on the Serviceberry trees. I forgot to mention that. I love cinnamon fern too.

I enjoyed visiting the native nursery. It was fun to see how many plants naturally grow in my area. It was a great learning adventure too.
I'm moving to a house with an established garden in Illinois. I'll be removing the non-native invasives (vinca) to install a woodland border of native plants. Please keep me updated on the progress of this project. I'll be following closely!
Sounds like we will be working on similar projects. I will post the progress.
Seeds are cheap to ship so online is a good way to find native seeds. Nice video
Great point about seeds. Thanks for your note.
Great information. I'm aiming to reclaim my weed sanctuary with native plants that don't need too much maintenance. We have a lot of nice plants native to Japan, so I'm enjoying doing some research.
It's fun to learn about new plants and figure out what to add to our gardens. Thanks for your note.
Thanks for the informative vid. I have the plant with yellow flowers at the 2:30 mark on your vid. Do you know the name of it as I have forgotten. Thank you.
Thank you. That plant is a Wood Poppy (Stylophorum diphylum). It was growing under the display racks. A clear indication it self seeds...ha ha.
The sure have a lot of inventory! We don't really have a lot of nurseries like that where I live. Some of the nurseries I visit have a super small area with natives but normally they look so sad IMO that they don't really look appealing :(
The plants were definitely expensive.
Great selection but I would’ve loved to see the other native plants you got 😭
I'm sorry. I thought people would get bored. I did include the complete list in the description and I will be sure to point them out in future garden tours. They are growing great!

Thank you. I'll be sure to point out the natives during the garden tours this season.
:) that plant made me think of the plastic troll dolls with the wild furry, long hair I had as a kid
LOL. They do look like troll dolls.
❤
Plant shopping 🤤😂
