@TheWanderingHartz , Plovdiv is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. It is layers over layers of history. Its atmosphere is the best though, but you have to visit to experience it. The summers can be very hot though, just FYI. The Rhodopes are absolutely gorgeous. There are a lot of beautiful places to see, but my favorite is probably Shiroka Laka and the nearby Gela. Other places to consider would be Lake/Dam Dospat, Devil's Throath Cave and the area around it, Yagodina Cave, Peak Snezhanka, etc. Also, the mountain people are extremely friendly and hospitable. Have fun and stay safe!
@@scouserrr " Plovdiv is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe" In Europe, no sorry and Verea a.k.a Beroe a.k.a. Boruy known today as Stara Zagora is way older. Philippopolis-Plovdiv was founded as a tribute to Alexander's father Philip and Verea was founded centuries before that by the Thracians. All that been said, they should go visit Kazanluk and check out the Thracian tombs and the beautiful nature of the area.
Hey guys , we're actually going to be in Bulgaria in June and hopefully Romania in August. We were hoping to run into you and buy you a coffee. Hope you show up. Subscribers from Portugal !
I'm a simple man, I see Bulgaria - I like and comment. I love my country and I am quite happy we get tourists/visitors/nomads like yourselves. Bansko felt so affordable because you visited out of season. Mid season it is comparable to a number of places in the Alps. Again, I love my country and I love the Rila Mountain Range and the Pirin Mountain Range but they are no Alps... Either way, if you guys have time to travel and the only thing holding you back is the Schengen visa, look into getting a tourist visa. That should be quite straight forward for you and it is cheap. It is a NOT a Schengen visa, i.e. under it you would have access only to Bulgaria but it lasts awhile. If you do, you would have to register with the local PD once you arrive but it is quite a straight forward process - it is a form with your details (mainly the address where you plan on staying) and that's it.
Thanks for the suggestions. We would need a Type D visa ( 6month or 1 year) which needs to be filed at the Bulgarian embassy in the United States assigned to our state of residence. It requires an in person meeting and takes a little over a month to process. Since we travel full-time, we may not be back in our home country long enough to apply and get the meeting at the embassy. However this is good information for others who would be coming directly form the United States or their home countries.

There is a good chance of that this summer. Yes, I am still following Dr. Mike and John Meadows (RIP) advice. It helps to have access to a good gym and that has been a challenge in some of the places we have lived. - Joel
Great question! prior to Bulgaria and Romania's entry into the Schengen non-Eu residents could spend 90 days out of 180 days in each respective country separately and THEN spend another 90 days out of 180 days in the entirety of the Schengen Area. Now we are limited to 90 days out of 180 days in the entire 30 countries apart of the Schengen Area. This is why we are considering residency options, so we can spend more time in the Schengen Area countries without having to travel to a third non-Schengen country until our 90 days resets.
@ wow, didn’t know that, thanks for explaining. I don’t think you’ll regret moving here permanently. But be prepared for a bureaucracy hell. Once you overcome it you’ll enjoy much more freedom than in any of the other EU countries (especially the western) since the government mostly stays away from everyone’s business and the taxes are much lower.
Bulgaria has been in Schengen since last April (Air & Sea). This is not good news for non-EU citizens like us 😢It limits our time to 90 days out of 180 and we can no longer spend 90 days in Bulgaria and then go to a Schengen country for another 90.
Not yet, we have kept to the west and southwest Bulgaria so far. If you watch our other videos you'll see we slow travel and like to stay in place for weeks to months. We have almost gone to Plovdiv several times but it hasn't worked out yet. Which of those cities do you like the best?
@@TheWanderingHartz I've watched several but not all of them. I live in Plovdiv so I find Plovdiv the most fascinating and with a lot of history in it. In the summer I would say Varna is better choice. Everything will be much more beautiful when the spring comes and everything become more clean and green. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
I will be in Sweden and possibly Estonia/latvia this summer Sweden July & part of August.. Estonia & Finland are both great! I sent you a message on IG regarding longer stays.

Bulgaria is great!
If you haven't been to Plovdiv or The Rhodopes mountain range, then you haven't seen the best of Bulgaria.
👍 More reasons to go back this year.

Thanks for another great video. It was nice to work and listen to your most recent update.
Appreciate it. It was another really good time for us in Bulgaria this last summer and we are excited about what 2025 will bring.
Nice coverage and details
Thanks guys!
Definitely would be curious on long visa stays in Eastern European countries.
Great suggestion!
Thank you for the valuable & detailed information and putting in the fun blooper. Butt ticket, ha!
We appreciate your kind words, and glad you enjoyed the blooper!
I would appreciate reading what you've learned about various residencies. Thanks!
Thanks Warren, that is a great idea for a video!

Why is the Schengen membership an issue from your perspective? Shouldn’t this make it actually easier to move?

Bansko is great.
As for hidden gems, I highly recommend Riga, Latvia. They call it the Paris of the North.
Thanks for the suggestion!!
Keep the south!!!

And one needs coin change for the bathrooms here in Costa Rica.
Ahh yes, good tip!
Bansko is famous for ... jazz fests.
Every August
And the ROCK fest !! (last summer was an epic one)
Pirin Rocks!!🤘
It's a bummer about the Schengen Zone's 90 days in/90 days out.
It will nice to hear your thoughts on Plovdiv too

You can go to the cafe buy a drink and you will have nice clean toilet for free.
There is no such thing as EU residency. You choose a country. And I am one of these horrible ones totally against Schengen.
Residency in a Schengen country.
