- Can we stop the nonsense? Sony is not stopping the production of Blu-ray movies and physical media is not dying. This is all just bad reporting, clickbait, and headline grabbing from people who don’t understand the industry. Let’s clear it all up in this video.

Unfortunate that "SONY ENDING BLU-RAYS" is way better clickbait than "Sony is working with SDS for physical media distribution as part of their taking over the role of publication of Disney, Fox, and Touchstone titles"
Did you see same video as me, omg, Sony are cutting the BDR Division.
He does click bait too…
Yet another example not just of how stupid people are, which has always been the case, but especially of how quickly the internet can promote that stupidity.
Exactly and they still kept doing this garbage since the dawn of streaming! It's getting really annoying! Don't people understand choices?
People will believe anything online n the news on tv
@paulocamoes6816
I regretfully felt into that trap. But, I'm still planning on making July my year where I give my attention to buying more dvds/blu rays.
As a fan-editor who wants to put my edits on my shelf, I have bought so many BD-R-DLs. However, none of them have been Sony. If Verbatim stops making them I'll have a problem.
I do wonder how many are private label Sony discs though. It could impact those labels like Verbatim.
If you’re someone that makes their own short films it feels so sick to have your films on blu ray instead of just a file on ur computer or UA-cam link
Thank you Jeff.
People need to read past the headlines
The problem to me was the original source from a Japanese news outlet didn't add much to the story. They made one sentence in the (very brief) article that mentioned the current age of streaming.
Even if you read past some of the headlines, not all articles provided these details either
Or people need stop reading what u see on online & tv
@u77750
Don't worry, I just learned that lesson the hard way.
I'm sorry.
Sony is probably the best studio out there keeping physical movies alive. I recently watched their 4k blu rays for underworld and they are amazing. $60 for 5 4k movies with amazing transfers and dolby atmos. Hopefully Sony puts out more stuff from these studios they are working with. I'm tired if Scream Factory doing 4k for studios. $40 for one release is absurd and they are not even packaged with a booklet or hard case like arrow video.
Phew, I was extremely worried/anxious about physical media formats and it's future, we need to preserve movies/TV shows, games, music or any kind of entertainment on any physical format, it's great to have access to them anytime without needing an Internet connection or subscribing to a streaming service and having them in the best quality available in which no digital can match nor surpass and it's important to preserve them for future generations.
Just a thought: Don't put the past, present and future of movies on your shoulders. Get and keep what you like and don't let the whole world be your problem. Because that shit would be too much to handle.
@@bened22 I'm a collector of movies, TV shows, for over 30 years since I was 12 in 1993 & I worry and get anxious when they don't get released on physical media formats, but I understand what you mean.
It made zero sense to me when I heard it (and I was right). They just took over Disney's home video distribution - that's not exactly getting out of the BD/4K game, is it?
I sure hope you are right 🙏
I will NEVER stop collecting discs mainly because when i "purchase" a film on prime or whatever i dont feel like i really own the movie and i love special features and want to see how the movie was made. Plus nothing beats the picture quality of a 4k disc on a OLED tv.
Prime mostly does give special features. And Disney plus has a lot of special features for many of their movies available on the app. But I agree, if you want something you own get a disc. Even Disney now is removing their own shit for tax write offs just like warner bros did.
3:40 A poorly written headline at that. Should have said it was Recordable media but then again maybe they did it on purpose because we're all talking about it now.
Thank you, Jeff, for this video. I literally JUST had a friend who is slightly into physical media tell me she heard that Sony was going to stop making Blu-ray. I immediately recalled seeing this video pop up on my subscription feed from a couple days ago, so I knew I had to watch it and get to the bottom of this.
Always appreciate your transparency and honest, unbiased videos. Keep it up!!
I just saw Gateway Film Center in Ohio is screening 4k restorations of One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest, Eye's Wide Shut, Lolita, Barry Lyndon, Annie Hall, Badlands which means these should be coming out on 4k UHD disc soon!
That’s a great theater, one of my favorites!
Strange considering how Kubrick’s daughter said no one has contacted the estate about moving forward with a 4K restoration on Eyes Wide Shut when she was questioned. Unless she was attempting to subvert expectations?
4:25. This sums up everything.
If This Deal Means We'll See An Abundance Of TV On DVD, I'm Game.
Sony blu-rays sold on GRUV would make my day. Gruv is my favorite online blu-ray store because of fantastic rolling sales along with fast free shipping with no minimum purchase necessary. Of course only Universal titles and a few Warner are sold there, more studios please.
Totally agree.
Thnx for the clarification! The articles I read didn’t make it clear and I read a few. I appreciate your input on this and settling the hype
Hi Jeff, UK here. We currently have at least 2 major distributors on line such as HMV and Zavvi. The UK pricing is very transparent [DVD £10, BluRay £15, 4K £25 and 4K steelbook £35]. This makes a very healthy marketplace and the future of discs here is looking good.
physical media is ALIVE !! MORE ALIVE than ever !! thanks Jeff, you´re da man
Agreed with you 😇
Unbelievable.
The thing I already miss is going out to a store to hunt for movies. Sure, digital shopping is convenient, but the whole experience of finding a movie you love is gone, at least from large stores like Best Buy, for example.
As an independent filmmaker who makes blu rays of his films, i do find this really worrisome
Thank you for clearing this up Jeff I thought that this whole Sony stopping blu-rays and video games was Complete BS
They wound loose billions if they did because millions of us would not be buying movies or games anymore! In which i spend about 8 grand a year on personally. I don't buy digital air nonsense anymore and never will .
Thank you for eloquently putting the information together in this video. It sucks that most articles and tweets on this matter are completely ignoring the most crucial details on this.
Hi Jeff. Thak you so much for the update. I (like you) have been keeping up with the changes but have no worries. I'm a total believer that things work themselves out. I do have a request for you though. Is it possible for you to 1- Incorporate a "Movie Request" page for your subscribers & 2-Ask the studios to access this list? Just curious. Take care! --- Bill
Jeff i was waiting for you response to this and glad you did , thanks for clarifying , also , hope you were able to get your Jaws pinball.
Thank you Jeff for the clarification on this!!
This is a relief. I was quite surprised to see this and unfortunately the first article I saw on it was completely off. Grateful Jeff was on top of this for us to confirm what I was seeing elsewhere!
Thanks for the info! I'm not on Social Media except YT but it's good to be in the loop on such topics.
When it does eventually go no physical media...I will stop supporting those companies and just watch my physical media.
I will 😊
@@chrisleehaessley I will buy the bootlegs with no remorse. Forcing consumers to buy into their streaming scams isn't going to work when we literally have been able to buy physical media of our movies and shows for nearly the last 50 years.
I won't feel bad about bootleg copies
Thanks for clearing this up. I've seen this news all over Twitter but with the wrong info.
Thank you, Jeff, as always, for the clarification! I actually did read further than the headline and knew this to be the case. But I was still waiting for your video on this topic.
You never disappoint!
Hi Jeff, loved the video. As you appear to be very knowledgeable on physical media do you think we are ever going to have any Hammer Horror movies on 4K ?.
Thanks for the info. Some of the headlines I saw were quite scary 😮
This was so helpful man. Thanks for making this cuz I was FREAKING OUT.
Well yet another retailer has dumped physical media. Dollar General has decided that since their customers aren't buying movies from them, they cut a rack full and the bin usually at the front door down to just a 2 sided spinner vs the four way spinner they used to have. Only had a few DVD only selections and no Blu-rays. These were my "go to place" where I've found many 3D selections along with various movies and TV series. I've even found selections that are out of print with some not even sold on amazon or ebay at a premium. I hope Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stays in the game as these are also places where you can score big if you're knowledgeable on motion pictures.
Good work! Good segment! Keep it up.
Heard the headline on the John Campea Show and thought, "let me go to Jeff to see what's really going on." Thanks for always clearing this stuff up.
So the sky isn't falling? 😮
Thank you Jeff
That's a relief. I was scared that Sony was planning to stop selling Blu-ray.
Sony is the only company that keeps getting negative press, I swear. And the worst part is that's neither their fault or responsibility, so here we are getting out of comfort just to debunk clickbait news.
Great video! Keep up the great work you do.
Thanks for clearing everything up Jeff
Thanks for the breakdown. This makes perfect sense
Thanks for clearing this up Jeff!
Thanks for clarifying the issue. I didn't know it was about recordable discs until this video. There's been so many clickbait articles and videos going around.
I genuinely believe it is insane how critical thinking has gone out the window with social media. Whether it be for clickbait articles on Twitter and Facebook or clickbait videos on UA-cam.
Glad you do your best to be through and prepared before making a video and clarifying new information if something comes about or changes!
Thanks Jeff for clearing this issue up. The headlines got my attention, but you cleared it up. THANKS!
Thanks Jeff.
It does affect some of us. Especially companies who make the bootleg discs for the hundreds of shows and movies that never get physical releases. I know at least three companies who depend on those discs to make their discs. 🤷♂️
Well first of all, I’m not going to call them “companies”. I can’t feel bad that people printing illegal copies and making profits off other people’s art might be stuck.
Second, there are so many BD-Rs available from other brands. There are literally millions already available. They’re going to be fine.
@@JeffRauseo they aren't the main companies or people using them. I use them for my own music and film releases on small scale. Obviously there are other brands. And some of the smaller scale media companies out there actually release their Blu Rays on BD-R. Some of the more boutique labels have released at least a couple dozen movies that I know of, on BD-r even when released in physical stores. I have a good dozen of these official release titles in my collection. Where the movies came on BD-r in official releases.
But Sony was one of the higher quality brands. So it does leave a bit of void in the market. Nevertheless, there are other companies. But you and I have digressed on bootleg copies before.
I have been pretty frank about it. If my art were out of print, or I never made physical media of my stuff and somebody else appreciated the art enough they made copies, then that isn't going to bother me.
Those people aren't losing any money on the art, when the traditional channels aren't ever going to release them on physical media anyway. So that will continue to be a topic with two camps of thought into the future I believe.
I hadn't heard any news about Blu-ray recently but I hardly ever go on Twitter etc. Thanks for the update anyway Jeff.
What doesnt help is the click bait articles for obvious readons show pictures of blu-ray films in their titles
i did not hear any of this lately, ppl get so paranoid jeff, thanks for this
Thanks for clearing this subject I was worried for a bit because I hate streaming I only stream if I have to like Netflix and Disney stuff like that
Thank for explaining Jeff rauseo
Thanks for the info
Thank you! 🎉
Random question but I figured since your the movie master you can help me. Do you know ow if sucker punch will ever come to 4K??? It’s on my wish list!
I will miss BDRs. I hope some company still always manufactures BDRs
Whats the future for pedabite discs?
"people don't read past the headline"
And THAT is the main problem, which many disingenuous news/information media rely on.
I saw this story the other day and it didn't take much reading on to see it was about recordable discs...
I just saw that headline this morning. Thank you Jeff for clearing this up
Awesome video.
It also bugle my mind sometimes as An Playstation gamer since the Playstation 1 area.
So many clueless gamers who have no clue what they are talking about.
Majority of Singelplayer games do no require online connection just to play '
Also the majority of the game are on the disc's, even some are buggy at launch.
Online connection to download updates and patches isn't the same as online connection just to play.
After updates and patches are downloaded and installed you can disconnect you're Playstation 4 - Playstation 5 system offline and Continue playing them offline with all updates and patches installed.
HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST COMPLETE EDITION IS THE perfect best Example on who Do Phycical singelplayer games right "

Thanks for clearing that up Jeff. Have a Nice Weekend.
Great report Jeff thanks 👍
Thank you for this, I was starting to get worried for movies/ tv shows in physical media
great for Amerika but what about EU Belgium never got Viper Series or Superforce and companies want to force subscriptions streaming studios are choosing digital to cut costs manufacturing and Shipping
Thank you, Jeff!
Thank u I was geting worried I live 45 min to walmart and I try to get my games there I like physical copy's
Thank you for clearing that up
I think it depends on the title. New cinema movies yeah, they're still being put out on physical media. When it comes to Music DVDs, I'm sure they're on the decline.I haven't seen many new titles come out for that in a while.
Jeff i hope you enjoyed your month.
Thanks for this information
People also saying the physical media going away thing due to Redbox filing for bankruptcy. What they don’t realize is when Walmart remodeled their stores, those stores didn’t have room for the kiosks anymore so they dropped them.
Ty for the update man and keep up the fantastic work please! Love the content and you are awesome.
They also just signed to do physical media for Disney, are people dumb?
I read one of those articles on yahoo news and literally the first thing I said was wait a minute lemme see what Jeff has to say about this!!! LOL
Thank you for this. I just sent this video to a friend who over reacted last night .
Your friend can breathe again!
You're right. The titles are click bait and unfortunately so many people don't have basic reading comprehension skills.
Jeff As a Filmmaker and Great Supporter and Collector of Physical Media, I would have to say that THIS is Your Best Video To Date!
thank you for making this video i just heard the rumors but was not able to find the article i was scared to death i love my blurays and look foward to continue buying them in the future
You are correct but 30$ blu rays are not the business... I.E. "The First Omen"
Man. I can sigh a MASSIVE sigh of relief.
I kinda want to get BD-R Discs, so I can make My Own Physical Copies of some Fan Films on UA-cam to keep in My Collection.
You can still get them!
@@JeffRauseo I know, I've been eyeing some on Amazon for a While.
BD-R for Cold Data Storage is even better than a HDD or SSD for its multi-decade century longevity of data retention.
Just Burn RAR files in parts of 23.23GB on each disc to archive your bits of data.
Thank you Jeff to help us understanding these studios and physical media. I was afraid that Sony is cutting Blu-Ray altogether but as you said, you have to read to beyond the headlines which sadly this generation does not.
This video is perfect to mention critical thinking. In an age of cllickbait, people are putting fiction over fact. Something that shouldn’t be.
I use recordable dvd's (dvd-r's) a lot. I have so much stuff recorded. I hope the format isn't coming to an end!
Thank you for this very informative video. I saw a story yesterday and got a little concerned.
Salute Jeff..
Thank you for the video
shout out jeff for dispelling misinformation on the internet
pretty neat stuff
does that mean australia is going to get back disney and 20th centry movies
Thank you sir appreciate this video.😊
You hear about Redbox 😢
TY Blu-rays Guy!!!
My homie sent me a link to an article saying exactly what you debunked in this video, and when I read it, it specified that they're discontinuing some Blu-ray's and Blu-ray players IN JAPAN. I guess he missed that part when he read it 😂 F in the chat for our boys in Australia tho, their physical media market is getting absolutely decimated atm
This is great work Jeff.
I remember the death of the Dreamcast console because of a misinterpreted message that was released in the early 2000's saying they were slowing down production of the system and it got reported as shutting down production and that killed the system. Like you said properly fact checking in journalism is a dying art these days. So thank you for the facts and the efforts you put in.
Nice Terror Vision Malum you have there!
