- Tiger Trout and Rainbow Trout Fly Fishing in Idaho got Wild and Stupid Crazy
While on a trip to Idaho we heard tell of a lake that was being treated for an invasive species of chub. They were threatening the native population of rainbow trout. The "treatment", was a dose of Tiger trout. Tiger trout are a genetically engineered cross between Brown trout and Brook trout. This hybrid creates an aggressive fish that quickly become fish eaters. In this lake their targets were to be the invasive chub. However, Tiger trout are content to eat any target of opportunity. When we found them, they were so aggressive that any fly would be taken. Because of the clear water and glass like surface, we decided that making sure our flies were seen was the best tactic. Surface fishing would accomplish that, in addition to being the most exciting method. We weren't wrong.
