I've learnt for 4 years straight. I was ready for a job the very first year. The last 3 years were just improving and applying for jobs. NO ONE replied to me. Not a single company, and that did it for me. I have two little kids and I can't risk starting my own business and quit my job. Now, I hate the idea of applying for programming jobs. I don't even look at my resume anymore. I actually regret wasting all those years on it. Programming is now just a hobby that I enjoy sometimes late night when I'm alone. Just waiting for the kids to grow and go to school so I can attend school myself and get that stupid piece of paper a lot of companies are shitting their pants for. So happy for you, buddy. Sounds like you deserve every bit of it.
@@SirusStarTV that, too. After a ton of research and videos of people doing their jobs and friends complaining about how horrible their jobs are, I'm kinda glad I never got a job to be honest.

Brad please know that your empowering young people here in Africa. You're work is well appreciated. I started with your channel at first glance when I was trying to code a simple page on HTML&CSS. I learnt a lot from your channel may you live long to continue the good work. I am almost hopeless coming from a background with no opportunity. I know with self-taught coding I will make it in the end.
How can I say? that I am having a hard time, in my dream path to be a web developer. As Dennis said all the difficulties for a self-taught programmer. After seeing this, once again I am feeling. I am not alone 😭. Thank you Dennis for sharing your experience it's really great inspiration for me. And also thanks Brad for all your great initiative for the newbies web developers.
This is the truth! The more I see videos like this, the more I see in the comments that there are a lot of developers experiencing the same struggles. It is nice to see that we are not alone!
How timely this videos comes in. Noticed that I've had a week of slacking here and there, then kept getting back doing some very interesting stuff, then again just losing interest, and as you Dennis mentioned that you always had those books at hand like a reminder that it is still here, waiting for you to dive in back. I've got a different situ, I am just taking regular notes in VSCode and I see that tree of unfinished projects every day. It's been 8 month since I started, and these were superbly exciting at times and I enjoyed the moments when difficult things become understandable first and a habit afterwards, and I hated the moments when I'd rather go watch some youtube. Regardless of that, I am getting back today or tomorrow, doesn't matter. I've got too much knowledge to just give up.
Thanks a lott Dennis I'm 14 year old and I've learnt HTML And CSS But some of the advanced javascript topics were ruining my mind and I started avoiding it now I will complete it Thanks Again😊
Yes, JavaScript is where the real programing starts taking place. However, once you're used to the whole game of variables, functions, arrays, objects and everything, you've basically mastered the building blocks of all programming languages. Keep on learning and I guarantee you will make it one day!

A few non-dev people only knows what developers really go through. We can have a problem that for them looks simple but for us it takes about a week just to solve that certain problem.
Thanks for sharing your story! I quit my job of 6 years in pest control. Self-taught to code before joining a bootcamp. Got a job after 4 months and got fired for not performing well. That shot my confidence to the ground and stopped programming for several months. Dusted myself off, now I’m back practicing and building projects. Thank you! for reminding me. I started coding 2001 (won 2 out of 2 programming tournaments), from desktop application programming to web development and then life happened and I was on the brink of losing the spark of my passion... then this video pops up on my youtube feed. I'm going to rekindle my passion.
he stated it was based on WordPress which lets you use themes so you never have to worry about either html or css. plus there are many other things that web dev companies can offer which require no knowledge of html or css such as hosting, buying and switching domains, seo and even marketing
I don't see what is wrong. If people want to learn HTML & CSS code, or teach it to others, then let them do this! There is nothing wrong with education of web development. It's just a different discipline, may not be what you do, but it is not better or worse.
I think the best thing about programming is that you make what you imagine. I started programming when i played a games, i just googled "How to make games?" the first result that i found was through learning the thing called programming. I started researching about it. Than i came to know the language called Java. I learnt this beautiful language. While learning OOPS concept i remember that i was depressed also i had a bad grades. But i concentrated only on one thing and that was Java. I learnt everything on my own and off course thanks to google and some Java Docs. I missed many family trips and i often loosed my friends. But today i can say that whatever hard work i have done so far is paying now. I am 20 Years old today but i am job ready in Android Development. But yeah the dream of building the games are still on my target. And one day i will go for it.
I started to learn how to code in late June of this year, to find a purpose after struggling with having a lack of proper education, depression, and severe video game addiction for over 5 years. So far I've learned C++ to an extent, some basic Python and JavaScript, and HTML from pretty much nothing. And it wouldn't have been possible without your HTML crash course Brad, I've come a long way and have a long way to go but I have never been so dedicated to learn and become something in my life as I am right now, and it's all thanks to the hard work of all the coding content creators, but especially you! Thank You for igniting that spark in me, and many more like me to come! and Thank You, Dennis, for sharing your story. This will only add fuel to that fire!
i came to know dennis from Florin's chat. he is such a humble guy and a true inspiration. i am loving this collaboration series where all of my faviourate teachers come together
10:10 hit the nail on the head. I was making a copy of a video game company's website (without looking at their code) to see if I can figure out how they managed to make it look like that. I was so proud of how far I was able to take it with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. And then later on, I got a recommended video on YT of a guy making a pixel game. I watched the first few minutes and got bummed out because I didn't understand his code whatsoever, even though it was the same coding language. It's hard to teach yourself how to code and keep the motivation going. I know I can do this, but videos like these are always a great reminder. Thank you!
I was thinking of quitting programming and do other stuff but this video popped up, Now I have decided to continue programming and stick to it till I reach my goal. Thanks, Brad and Dennis for your guidance
I just want to say that I am around 5th month into coding since I lost my job due to Corona and this guy helped me a lot. Thank you Dennis.. for the Courses and motivation. I am not quiting this time no matter what. Take care ppl
I have been dealing with this issue. Ever since I got let go from my first web dev job, I lost a lot of time I use to spend coding and lost all motivation. I had the job for about 4 months and got let go. I have been working regular jobs now and its hard. I work at a warehouse currently and after working 50-60 hours a week, I have been stuck being deadly tired trying to study, I am pushing through it. Your story has been inspiring. Thank you.
This was by far one of the most inspiring true stories I've ever heard. To be honest "Traversy Media" has the same impact on me too. Thanks Brad and good luck continuing the road of success Dennis.
Brad, I have been following your channel for quite sometime. When I started by coding, your channel was the most helpful tool that I came across here in UA-cam. It was simple and easy to understand. I started my coding journey following your videos and it really helped me grow. Unfortunately, life has unforeseen circumstances and I have to go back to my old job. The fire that was burning inside me died down because of the things I have to prioritize such as bills. While I was scrolling on your channel last night, I came across this video of Dennis. This really hit me. I cried watching and listening to the story of Dennis coz I can totally relate. It's almost the same road that I am taking right now. This is the most inspirational story for me. This really gave me hope! To be honest, I was having mid life crisis as I wanted to do something that I love to do, not something that I hate doing but have no choice coz I have to pay the bills and put food on the table. But your story Dennis gave me a bright ray of hope that despite the challenges that would come, there is still a chance for me to be able to continue my passion in coding. I am so grateful to the two of you for sharing this wonderful message
OMG, this video resonated a thunderous shakes in my heart and get an enormous motivation and inspiration which I felt exact same as way he depicted and felt. All the ups and downs, frustrations, temptation to get out of this career and self-doubt, countless questions if I am doing right or will get better...But I kind of become to know why I have to do it and keep doing it, because I WANT IT!!!
Thank you so much Traversy Media and Dennis. Its really helpful because its been an year now that I started this journey after my graduation and I still don't know where to start and what should I do. I don't know where would it lead me. After watching this video I realized that everybody has this stage that i'm going through right now. Thanks Again for sharing your story. I'm motivated again . ❤
this video in itself is a reflection of my situation right now. It may not be exactly everything in this video but some parts of it stand out to me such as feeling discouraged, feeling like no progress is made no matter how much you code, comparing yourself to others, and making sacrifices. As I write this I'm currently still learning to code and I'm doing it all self taught, not much help and guidance that I get but to only rely on google to give me the solutions. Learning to code often gets tough but it's something I still strive to learn because of the opportunity there is and being able to build and develop applications that can change the world. I always had a curiosity for most of my life about how websites, games, and mobile apps are developed and wanted to learn how to develop things like that myself. I make sure that I continue to keep that desire to learn more about being a developer and not give up when it gets hard, because it will. But even though it may not always be easy, it can be done.
I started out the same way on my journey to programming, HTML and CSS with a friend, I was always into computers in general but then when he turned me onto early web dev and I loved it ever since and I used to spend so much time and bought books as well, but like he says in the video, life gets in the way and we have to accept that. I just recently got back into CSS and JavaScript again after like a 5 year gap and I always feel l ike i have one foot in and foot out. The hardest part about all of it for me was the transition from a markup langauge like HTML to a higher thinking programatic language like JavaScript or other non markup languages. But i know that i wanna do this cause deep in my gut beucase when i build something, from coding simple to the higher complicated functions,i love how it makes me feel in general like I found someething i can be good at. I will say this video really hit home man thanks alot, it inspired the hell out of me again. Must keep the coding dream alive.
Thanks for allowing me to share my story with the world Brad. Hope it can encourage others to keep pushing on :)

I had been procrastinating my projects on React for months now. This got me going... Thank you so much for featuring this video... :)
Wow.... I started learning Django 5 months ago and that 41k video of yours kept me going.... And this video just gave me so much hope
Timely video. Needed to see this right now
Totally! I think this video will be timely every single time I watch it haha
Gave me goosebumps. Thanks Dennis & Traversy.
I’m 31 and feel like I’ve accomplished shit in my life, but I’ve been coding a lot since March and hope to make a career switch next year.
Do it man! You wont be sorry!
Go for it! My mate started in 2018 at 32 and now he's the tech lead for a telehealth company.

Aedotox Wow, that’s awesome! Truly inspiring!
You spoke from your bottom of your heart. Really a great story.
Once in a while its nice to watch this kind of videos to keep the fire going, its for us to remember the feeling when we see that first hello world program run.
Dennis , i don't know what to say i think you are the person who has made the greatest impact in my life this year ,thank you for existing and being such an amazing person and teacher !yes cause you actually are my teacher .I just hope that one day i will meet you and show you some of the project that i have been and will be able to build thanks to your teachings and advices .Thank you ,thank you, thank you thousands of time
It's amazing that you were able to say all that with words, I saw myself a lot in that video and I'm also living my dream!
Thank you Dennis, this resonates with me perfectly. Always there is no time to focus on your dream. Life gets in the way with many issues.
Programming is good as a hobby but as a job...the job is to maintain someone's else shit code for years (nothing enjoyable here)
@@SirusStarTV that, too. After a ton of research and videos of people doing their jobs and friends complaining about how horrible their jobs are, I'm kinda glad I never got a job to be honest.
Honest truth that most programmers will not tell you, thanks for sharing your experience.
I started a 40 day coding challenge, trying to complete react js and nodejs, but facing a lot of hurdles
don't give up.
It's a steep learning curve. Keep that in mind as you are going through it. I can tell you for sure those skills will apply to any modern web dev project.
Relax. Never give up.

Best video of all time Denis. Really inspiring
Lord knows
I needed to hear this.
Thank you for post this!!
I really felt that. When u wrote your first html code and it runs and print just simple your name. It feels soo so so good!
Incredible, very moving Dennis. Echoes true for most of us who have already been down this path and are looking back.
I'm about 6 months in learning several full stack technologies based on Java, and what you've described sounds about right. It's an awe inspiring journey with all the ups and downs. Thanks for sharing.
I wish i can put the last three minutes of the video in an infinite loop in my head so that i can keep going... Thank you so much...
Thanks a lot Brad. I came to know about this man because of you. This is one of the best video I've ever seen... i feel so motivated...
really love this channel . Very useful channel for beginners . Lots of love from Bangladesh
Also from BD 😊
@@golammohiuddin799 😊 glad to know that.
same here
How timely this videos comes in.
Thanks a lott Dennis I'm 14 year old and I've learnt HTML And CSS But some of the advanced javascript topics were ruining my mind and I started avoiding it now I will complete it
Thanks Again😊
Yes, JavaScript is where the real programing starts taking place. However, once you're used to the whole game of variables, functions, arrays, objects and everything, you've basically mastered the building blocks of all programming languages. Keep on learning and I guarantee you will make it one day!
@@hououinkyouma5372 yeah buddy
It was just 3 months ago but now I can call myself a beginner in javascript built quite some projects and still on the way to learning

Thank you , I'm inspired. I'm a college student and I have started web development one year ago.I wasn't consistent. Now I decide to raise my standard and go big and deep.
What a motivational story.
I'm amazed, thank you!
Thanks for making it sound easy in the end. The dream felt real to me
This was very motivating.. def gonna watch again
Thank you so very much for the inspiration. I am on the same journey and needed to watch this video to fully understand NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM. Thank you again.
Loved this story, theres a lot in it that I can relate to. Thank you for the motivation!
Brad... The best person on the internet. Thank you, sir. For not letting me quit.
I faced and am facing the same thing! Trying financially sustain myself in reality while working on something I didn't realize I wanted to get into. Its so difficult, especially when the thing that you need is helping to block the things that you want indirectly. As a woman, and a black woman at that. I feel that I must be at 200% before getting into the industry because I will be expected to prove myself more. Very frustrating place to be in. Thanks for sharing story 💖. I can definitely relate, although, I'm still at step 1😕😜. You're totally right. It will be hard (has been), but its just about sticking with it 💖
Thanks Denis for sharing this story with the world. So inspiring!!
I was expecting him to say that he put an end to that relationship because it distracted him from his real calling which is coding.
Thought he went full mgtow at that point.
Pure emotion... You deserved it, I wish you all the best in life and congrats for all you achived so far.
Brad has awesome friends who do awesome videos indeed. Nice!
And they say.. "oh you are a developer.. You're doing nothing all day, just sitting in front of a computer". They don't get the business side of the whole thing.
Once I’m done with a few projects I’ll be applying for jobs again.
Nobody is a loser, but I don't know what to call to those people who disliked and will dislike this video.
well I think you're one of the people who disliked this video 😂
They're angry at how stupid this man is
I relate to this video. Been slowly building up my skills with Javascript and now python while raising a young family. Dennis and Brad have been immensely helpful.
Sometimes I feel like giving up cause I don't even have a pc :( Oh God

But I found an excellent android app for programming
I would suggest at least starting with some books if possible

Thank you! for reminding me. I started coding 2001 (won 2 out of 2 programming tournaments), from desktop application programming to web development and then life happened and I was on the brink of losing the spark of my passion... then this video pops up on my youtube feed. I'm going to rekindle my passion.
"Teaching our developers HTML & CSS code."
Many things are wrong with this statement.
right on point
@Jason Gutt they are using wordpress maybe and HTML css for web design
he stated it was based on WordPress which lets you use themes so you never have to worry about either html or css. plus there are many other things that web dev companies can offer which require no knowledge of html or css such as hosting, buying and switching domains, seo and even marketing
I don't see what is wrong. If people want to learn HTML & CSS code, or teach it to others, then let them do this! There is nothing wrong with education of web development. It's just a different discipline, may not be what you do, but it is not better or worse.
watched this for the 4th time already. This keeps my motivations up whenever I watch it.
Imagine having to teach your company's developers Html and Css
Why'd your company hire them in the first place?
I laughed when I saw Tech with Time lol
I started to learn how to code in late June of this year, to find a purpose after struggling with having a lack of proper education,
depression, and severe video game addiction for over 5 years.
Thank u so much Dennis and Brad for your motivation. Awesome as always.
Thank you!
Wow thanks Brad and Dennis! This is pure motivation!!
Thanks for sharing. Thr r days when i am on top of the world and then thr r days when i can't stop doubting myself. Much love ❤
People see only the end of game on social media. Thank you for sharing your story.
I'm not into motivational videos, but this one is probably the best I've seen
Amazing video, this is something we won't see often, but we really needed.
