  • Now returning for my final Section Hike on The Cleveland Way... Here is Day 7 - Staithes to Whitby, 11.5 miles.
On April 24th 2023 I returned yet again to tackle and hopefully complete the Cleveland Way.
Having driven up in the morning I arrived in a very quiet, overcast, chilly and windy Staithes. Finally heading out from The Cod and Lobster where Day 6 had finished I set off up the sharp climb out of the bay.
It wasn't long before I had the sea to my left, green fields to my right and the views ahead. Oh and occasionally turning around to admire what I'd passed a while earlier.
The wind was lethal next to the cliff edges but thankfully blowing inland.
Passing the many blossoming bushes along the trail and spied the remnants of old industry that dotted the landscape as well as some remnants from WWII.
Runswick Bay was virtually deserted I called in at the Café for a coffee and a slice of Cornflake cake, the break from the wind was welcome. The walk along the beach was dramatic with the large crashing waves.
Climbing up the gully although only short was a really interesting experience.
The day was overcast and only once did it sprinkle for only 5 minutes.
Calling in for a pint of Blacksheep at the Hart Inn in Sandsend was a nice respite from the wind and it was good to rest for a while.
The sun poked its head out at last and the dramatic sea to my left was stunning.
Finally arriving on the outskirts of Whitby it was a steady plod to my endpoint for the day at the Café just short of the Whale Bones.
Filmed on GoPro Hero 9 and edited in Filmora 12.
    Music from Epidemic Sound.
