I really feel comfortable with the job that is ahead of me even tho I knew already what is the outcome of every seafarers status on board ship because of you . Thanks for your vlogs
This is a very nice channel! And I'm looking forward to seeing more of these vlogs soon :)
Thank, stay tuned!
Thanks for publishing regularly. I really enjoy your content!

Finally get off the ship after months....vacation plans? ANOTHER SHIP! God bless you man.
Great Job Jeff!
haha.....I thought this was your LATEST video ... then you mention reaching '1000 subscribers' . Now you have 134,000 ! Good work . You will have 1 million eventually !
fantastic video mate
Love your videos... very fascinating!
Hy Jeff, I really love your videos!
What kind of logistics jobs are there in a ship, if any?
hey when you sign on and sign off on a ship do you stay with the same ship and crew? or does your company put you on whatever ship is available? and if so do you have to go wherever your ship goes?
Love ur channel man ur a good editor keep it up
+BananaPlays thanks banana!
+JeffHK when u have ur 5 months off or whatever do u have more than enough money for food and stuff?
Ido u get some time to visit palces nearby when the ship is loading or unloading conatiners at some other port or from its destination .
Do u buy things when sailing around to other countries
And is there any paid leave?
Jeff... you should do a panoramic time-lapse from the top of the radio mast on the fo'c'sle!
Haha! I used to work on the Voyager of the Seas. Cruise ship life is both completely different and very similar to merchant vessels. Fair winds and following seas!
Hey when you started working for the first time, was it anything near to what you have been taught in maritime school? Or totally different? And was it hard/Stress.
HI jeff how are you !! i hope fine
could you make a video doing a ecdis tutorial please !! explaining the main funcions !! thanks for reading !!
more ship videos!!!! just subscribed!!
2.38 When you see a door lock made by Samsung
happy holiday jef.
thanks yang!
Have a great break Jeff
wow almost 100k in one year !! good for you! new sub from mexico....
+roberto ramirez thanks! Appreicste everyone's support!
Hey Jeff, have you always worked for the same company since graduating? what is job security like, do you have to apply for the same job once your contract has finished, also do you ever change ships or are you always on the same one?
What kind of qualification do u have other than the maritime qualification u talked about in a few videos
maraming salamat po!!! MABUHAY!!!
A video on the bridge and general work (more) the anchor
Why a vacation on another ship?
Work and relaxation two separate things.
Work VS Vacation
Because going on a cruise is vacation. It's different than working on a cargo ship. I know it's hard to understand if you have never been on a cruise.
What amazed me the most on this video was your door lock. Holly molly. Does it start with digital recognition and then you input a pattern?
+Adriano de Almeida Marcato yea lol samsung
Damn, living in the third world we don't see such nice toys. Thanks for the answer
Adriano de Almeida Marcato Lol, third world. It hurt more than it should.
I thought it was a "Finger Recognition Lock" ... I was like: "Ooooooo What kind of sorcery is this"? .... that and his Apartment. It's AWESOME!!
I just want to ask there is scope after GP Rating course in merchant navy
Hey, Jeff, next time you are in Rotterdam give me a shout glad to show you around
you so cool man, keep make a cool video on the sea
Hi. Wasn't boring at all for me. Nice to see how you live on land and that it is as messy as on sea ;-)
Your ?flat? looks cool by the way. I'm happy to hear that you will post even more videos while on land. Keep up the good work. And don't forget to post same more facts about your last ship.
Hahaha yes messy as always
nice jeff. am expecting more videos from you, especially from deck side.
thanks mrithul, stay tuned!
How did you become a Mariner in the first place?
What brought you to consider this kind of life style?
Suffering for months on a container ship!
Its worth it! Right!
Your videos are well done and very interesting. Thanks
So do you work for 6 months and take the rest of the year off...how does the work schedule work...
Please create more vlogs I Like it so muchh..
Nice door system :D
Just keep on making good videos! :)
Best wishes from Germany.
+MrHBK221 thanks! Hope this video wasnt boring, not much happening as i unpack and busy organizing things
No no! The timelap was interesting. :)
Funny how mutch stuff u have on the ship... but understandable on a six month trip.
do a video on the hong kong ferrys. such a part of hong kong's maritime history.
Hey Jeff, what are some opportunities for jobs at shore for someone with sailing experience in the deck department? Im interested in the industry, but would prefer to settle into family life after a decade or so.
So you holiday on a boat? lol that seems so weird to me. Also how long do you feel like you are on the boat after you get off?
睇到我條屋邨喎!正~
Your video editing is phantastic. You should work in the media industry and produce music videos, wildlife documentaries or commercials for the touristic sector.
Wish u a safe journey alwys and lots of luk from india
sir is dere any welder Nd ordinary sailors other than crew members??
hi jeff. Is there separate air ticket for seafarers? do sailors gets free extra allowance on weight of the luggage?
Hello Ankush yes you can carry normally two pieces of luggage each maximum of 20kg and of course handluggage. Sometimes you have to show your seamans ID. But normaly its no problem during check in.
if we want to xplor country when ship comes to shore
which type of ship will be best
lng,tankers,bulk,containers.....
plz let me know sir!!
+Shaikh Musharaf passengers or bulk
Good Job!
I luv u bro nd lik yr all video 😀😀😀
Ha, I guess that after 6 months of work that’s quite a relief, but do you have any problems coming back to your home? Especially considering that the life on board is defined step by step by all sort of regulations meanwhile at home is completely different. Actually seafarer’s psychology it’s one of the topics that interest me the most
really like your videos !doing great job!
my dad is working for ZIM as an engineer ..,do you familliar with the company?
and if so what do you think about the company?
Yea some of our ships are chartered to ZIM, my friend worked on one of the ZIM managed ships before, grest company!
Wow that was a narrow drive!
Hi Jeff. Question about getting all your luggage off the ship. It must have taken you many trips down the gangplank to get all your luggage down to the dock. During those times you were back in your stateroom for more bags, how did you prevent one of your bags from being stolen from the dock? Thanks.
+Ralph Turner security within the port is pretty good especially in first world countries
I was going to ask do you come to the port of long Beach or los Angeles California. because my wife and I are both crane operators.
+JOE BILLINGS oocl has a terminal there, my first ship i went to long beach :)
Jeff do you have to pack your monitors all the time you leave the ship : O
+Ivan.A Music yup
welcome home
+胡說 thanks!
You have the best blogs where have you been man? We need new ones
Been busy with holiday aha, signed off ship
Hi could you make a vid on what you had to do to become a deck officer-education/college wise
Great suggestion, sure thing
is there calling fecility on ship
Hey jeff I'm an aspiring seaman and i was wondering if i can ask you a few questions about the life of a mariner?
I love hong kong. been a couple of times. great food
Jeff I have a question can u tell me how is the life of a cadet merchant navy
Hey! Great vids. They really help give an incite into what life is like. Im studying to be a 3/M unlimited tonnage from the US. Any advice for a freshly minted mate?
+Shane Thomas grab a 4tb external drive for all your media and/or games storage
JeffHK whats ur nationality sir?
So when you go back, will it be on the same ship or will you sign onto a different one?
+OnTheSound different one most likely, it is random and depends on which ship needs replacement for my position
hi jeff. do sailor have to go to company's headquarter to sign off finaly. e.g my company hq is in Mumbai, and I want to sign off at Newyork. but I want to spend one month holiday in America before going back to home. so in this case do I need to fly to Mumbai hq first to sign off? and then go to usa on my own expense?
+Ankush Sonone insurance and liability. you will have to ask company's premission
bro, nice videos you had previously! i can see ure must be sailing on SC2 service!
+James Foong NP1, goes to vancouver :]
C-hing what ship u on?
2014 OOCL BEIJING running SC 2...
I am curious about a few things:
1. How much time did it take you to pack up?
2. How many trips did you have to take? Did you have to carry everything down that stairway off the ship one at a time?
3. How much notice do you get from when you get a new contract to when the ship sets off?
Also, congrats on 1000! Your content is superb! Be sure to post on different subreddits at peak hours and you will earn more subs! That is how you got me!
1.total about 5 hours to pack, i bring ALOT of stuff compare to other people
2.one trip! Bosun and I was close so he opted to use ship's davit to lower everything in one go, otherwise i would have had to take it one by one haha
3. usually 1 month
Thanks! I will be sure to look into subreddit strategy once im back, typing this as im in the airport
By doing gp rating job 24 month of experience we can promote to the deck offcier na. And a
u r the man!!! please what dose a class 3 coc upgrade one to??
+Craze Vinci Payne class 2! chief mates
aye thanks
Man...I am so astonished! I study Marine engineering and i never thought it would be so exciting to watch videos like these you do!! You are just awesome!! I have one simple question for you!! How old are you man? I mean...do you have a degree? Well of course you have but...i am kinda jealous! I would love to sail the seas! But i am afraid that the age will get me before i finish all my degrees and stuff....! I would love if you would answer me!! Best of luck from a wanna-be cow-worker from Greece! ;)
Dont have a degree yet! doing my Bachelor at Australia at the moment. I'm 26!
in case of emergency at my home can i get leave when i may be at the middle of the sea?
+Azhar Mallick no
see my top 10 reasons why maritime sucks, covers it
Nice dude.........
How to join OOCL company??? Brother please tell me.
Do you live in Hong Kong? I live in port neches tx USA by the neches river. Lots of ships come here. I watch them on MarineTraffic and try to go down and take pictures. I like your channel!
+Hiram Hunt yes i do :)
JeffHK can a person stay in usa and go to get training in other country like you and Canada? and can a person work like usa based company but live elsewhere
hi jeff, im looking into the whole seafaring career and all. and im wondering, do you still get paid during those couple mounths off ship? or even when you put into port somewhere and you dont have to be on the ship?
Almost all companies will give you salary for "standing by" at home
Most companies give you off ship salary in ratio to how long of a contract you worked on the recent ship
JeffHK
so what do you do when your on "standby"
if you guarantee you will board a ship of that company in a spesific time like in 3 months they may give you salary. depends on company. some companys' contract has a ratio like 6/2 or 4/1 it means 4 months work and 1 month holiday paid.
All this while you were uploading from a ship.... So is the internet provided by the ship ,WiFi ? Unlimited? Speed?
+Mohammed Hussain very expensive on ship
I wait till im in a port then upload from local wifi
U r in which ship
You live in Hong Kong? That place looks nice just curious how much rent is also I thought you lived in the states
EXPENSIVE about 2000 USD per month for 600 square feet space
do you share your apartment?
Wow. $24,000 a year for an apartment you live in a couple of months per year. Maybe your relatives use it while visiting Hong Kong while you are away.
Jeff what officer RU in ship bro
can you please tell me which is the largest container ship in the world
Johann Rafferty Google it
Depends how you define it: tonnage, weight, volume, displacement, length, cargo capacity by weight, cargo by volume are all ways.
Have you been to Indonesia by ship?
oh that would be fun ain't it
Enjoy your vacation Jeff, is Hong Kong your home (family friends live there)?
+Eric Hawkins Vancouver is where I grew up and most of my friends are, but ive moved to Hong Kong as home port for this job
+JeffHK thx Jeff, I love all of the Pacific Northwest
jeff it's looks like there aren't many of you, what kind of protection do you have against pirates?
yea 26 crew onboard. Our high speed and high freeboard :)
When we go slow we hire security guard
if you're from Vancouver, did you go to bcit for school?
+Platinum Gold Card bcit will take 4 years of study, so i opt for australia's 1.5 years plus i get to travel!
Jeff, how come you're allowed to bring all that stuff like the pc and monitors aboard? aren't they disallowed cos of security or is it just your rank entitles you to perks?
thanks and keep it up, love the vids
+Andrew Mackay everyone is allowed, as long as the things arent illegal
JeffHK is it typical to be allowed to bring that level of volume or does it vary by ship? Also it seemed you have quite a bit of personal clothes, what do you use for, isn't the job uniformed?
+Austin David 40kg is the flight limit, as bought by most companies, not everyone go all out but i do, alot of camera and tech gadgets
What happens to your ship when you sign off? Does the entire crew sign off and they have a second crew? Do only a few sign off at a time and the ship keeps running? Or does the ship sit idle for a time?
+timaahhh sign off individually with crew replacements straight away, the ship is never idle
:) Thanks for the reply. Your video's are excellent!
Can you tell the life of chief mate in the ship
you are on which ship , tell me ship name
I noticed your University of Michigan sweatshirt as you're walking off the ship at 1:56. If you live in HK now what's the connection?
+Ian Hartwig cousin of mine went there
+Ian Hartwig was a gift from said cousin
Hi Jeff I am big fan of you I am cadet at marine academy at nautical ⚓ can you please help how can I get my first ship after passed out for deck cadet I am in Pakistan and doing HND hope you reply
