In the end you can negotiate the same price probably by going to the place where all the boats are going for this trip. When you arrive by ferry on Isla Mujeres, turn left when you come out and just before Senor Frog on the other side of the street you will see several people offering these type of trips. Just negotiate and mention you have already a contact that can offer it for this price and pretty sure someone is willing to offer you it for the same.
