From Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the NBC series revolving around Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a New York City Police Department (NYPD) detective in Brooklyn's fictional 99th Precinct, who often comes into conflict with his commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). I always remind myself that Andre Braugher was a dramatic actor who had never done Comedy before 99. So the fact that he’s so dead pan is hilarious when it taken into different context.
I love him so much it hurts, I just need this show to go on forever and I need captain holt always.

Yeah. I like how much Charles looks up to him, but it's good to see he'll put concern for his son above everything else.
Charles went through a lot of character development over the course of the show, and one important bit of it was prioritizing his son over Jake after being Jake's sycophant for so long.
The magic of their relationship is that Holt gave Jake the help he needed to allow his inner child to grow up, but Jake has shown Holt that you can make everything fun if you want and you dont have to be serious to be respected

@@FiveN9ne actually, Colin’s right. Jake tried it again in the dentist episode since it’s one of his interrogation tactics when he’s running against the clock. It’s a callback to that jewelry thief episode you’re thinking of! :)
Making him admit exactly what he'd done by acting like it was nothing but luck was brilliant.
It's one of the few episodes I've seen in full and it was one of the best episodes of any cop show I've ever seen
I cried at the 2:06 moment! For someone who never had the privilege of saying the word "dad", it really got to me. I would have loved to have someone like Captain Holt in my life as a father figure, not even a father...just a father figure would have been enough! I often wonder how it feels when other ppl utter the word "dad"...to the others like me, I hope we come to have that day when someone like Holt walks into our lives (if its not too late by then) so we can embarrass ourselves like Jake & called them "well dad..."

The classic and more predictable trajectory of the Holt/Jake relationship would be to have Holt constantly be tough and rigid with Jake, only for Jake to realize later that he only acts in that way because he sees potential in him. However, what I really like about B99 is that they, instead, decided to actually have Holt learn and grow from Jake's influence as well. Holt becomes more comedic, social, and friendly, after seeing the value that Jake's personality and silliness brings to the squad and his life. He also sees why this actually makes Jake a good cop, and loosens his grip on him immensely after the first few episodes in order to show him that he recognizes that. Just a really great and more original character dynamic.

If there's one message to take away from this amazing show. It's that regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, generation, social class, background we're all the same on the inside. We all have so much more in common than we let ourselves realize.
