- In this video, I have visited Golden Temple early in the morning to attend ‘Palki ji Sahib Ceremony’. Later, I also visited the langar bhawan, had a few conversations with the head chef, rolled a few rotis (feeling blessed to be able to do that), went inside the kitchen where the much talked about ‘roti-making machine’ is assembled. I did this Golden Temple trip with ‘City On Pedals’ team which is local guide to help you explore #Amritsar in the best possible way. Later, I also met a subscriber of mine and ended my trip to Amritsar on a happy note ☺. Here is a little intro about all the key elements of this video:

Golden Temple -
The #GoldenTemple in Amritsar is also known as Sri Haimandir Sahib Amritsar. It is a central religious place of the Sikhs and a symbol of equality and human brotherhood. People from all across the globe come to visit this temple. Unlike, many other temples in India, Golden temple is open to all the caste, culture and religion. The Golden Temple in Amritsar (Punjab) has a unique Sikh architecture. It has four entrances from all four directions, which signify that people from every walk of life are equally welcome at this holy shrine.

Palki Ji Sahib Ceremony -
It is a sacred ceremony that happens twice a day at the Golden Temple. Palki ji sahib ceremony takes place in the night and early morning at 4 AM. At night the holy book ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ is carried to a room and placed in a golden palki. During the morning ceremony, the holy book Guru Granth Sahib is taken back to the main temple and the holy book is opened randomly and right page is read by the reader, also known as ‘hukamnama’ or the order of day.

Golden Temple Langar Bhawan -
The Golden Temple has been serving free food also know as ‘langar’ to people of all religions and faiths since 1481 - the time of Guru Nanakji (the first Sikh guru). Although, all the gurudwara in the world serve free food but the langar at golden temple is a special one. It is not just the quality of the food served here but also the scale of operation and the countless number of volunteers working day and night to prepare the food with utmost love. The meals served at Golden temple langar are basic vegetarian food including rice, daal, chapatti (roti), and kheer. You would be amazed to know that the langar at golden temple serves food to 50,000 people per day. The count goes to 100,000 people during the weekends and festivals. There are two langar halls inside the temple that can serve meal to 5000 people at a time.

Roti-making machine at Golden Temple -
There are 3 #RotiMakingMachine inside the Golden temple langar bhawan. Two of these machines are old and they make 6000 rotis in an hour. The new machine makes 12,000 rotis in an hour.

It feels so proud to say that once I was also there. Witnessed prabhat pheri! 😍 Me and my friend were so lucky that in 2 and a half days tour, we got the darshan 3 times. In evening this temple looks so mesmerizing and peaceful that one dont want to leave this place! 🤩
Amritsar is one place that i want to visit again and again and again. So much peace in the Temple.
