Solid!
It was an honor being a part of this! Great work as always Alex!
Thank you so much for playing Gabriel!
Wonderful, as always!
Thanks Ross!
Hi Alex, fantastic work! It sounds very interesting, is enchanting and very much Gil Evans-like. I listen to the music of Gil for more than 40 years since I got attracted to it through Birth of the Cool. I'm an old time friend of Johannes (since Kindergarten) who made me aware of your blog a few years ago. I do not have the musical knowledge nor talent to contribute anything valuable, but I enjoy listening to your explanation of Gil's music and your interviews. Keep doing it. Very much appreciated. Best regards from the coast of the Baltic sea. Peter.
Thank you very much!
Wow! This is great. I love those last 3 bars.
Thank you
this was crazy good
Thank you 😃
You really captured the whle Gil Evans orchestration vibe. Congrats
Thanks!
This is killing
Thanks Ben!
❤the good side of you tube !tx🎉
Thank you! 😀
Lovely arrangement!
I enjoy your insights into Gil's writing. Its great of you to share here with others. Your experiment worked! It sounds like a Gil Evans arrangement and I can reference in my head, the arrangements on the Miles Ahead album where you used those techniques in this. Maybe sometimes a little to literal to my taste but very well done. Arrangers like Gil and Frank Foster and Thad each have their own style of writing I'm curious to hear your own writing. I hope you dedicate an episode to your own writing so we could hear it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind.
A bridge from here, a color from there... I think that's a great and totally valid way to work. The real name of the game is knowing what to do with the stuff, whether you made it up, got it from another source or whatever. Thanks a million!
Haha thank you. Yes, it's not my preferred way of working. But it made for an interesting project.
Very nice work! I very much enjoyed listening to it.
Thanks for listening
It is obvious that you definitely did it, Alex! Impressing work and absolutely okay to borrow some material from our master :-)
Glad you liked it!
Very cool. Gil arranged this tune on the Teddy Charles Tentet album. Of course this is from the Birth of the Cool era and uses that instrumentation. I bought the LP when it came out in 1956 and played it to death. Lots of other great writing on that album. ua-cam.com/video/t1ISjF3fS2M/v-deo.html
Thanks Bruce. Well done on buying the original! :D
That is fantastic! I’ve been watching your channel with great interest! Thank you for sharing this information
Oh thank you Charles. You will really love the video where I outline the arrangement in more detail. Have a look for it on my channel, I cover form, harmony, motifs and orchestration
Lovely! Definitely captures the spirit.
Thank you very much!
