Honestly, it’s been so tiring to see comments about language every time instead of focusing on the music, in spite of the explanations from the organizers and judges so many times. I think they even have it in the initial slides! Also, they speak fully (and fluently) in tamil when they’re sure contestants can understand it well and I (and perhaps many others) appreciate that they do.
Not all Carnatic classical music exponents can speak Tamil. Historically, Carnatic has been a broad region of India comprising of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam speaking people, to name a few and even Carnatic classical music compositions are in all those languages with many in Sanskrit and even Hindi (by Swathi Tirunal and others) and perhaps more! Many of the contestants might not have a high level of proficiency in all these languages but it would be good enough if they have an understanding of the meaning of the compositions and sing it correctly (which the judges make sure they do, showing respect for all languages) as this is a Musical contest/career and not a language proficiency contest. It’s the understanding of music that’s super crucial!
On a side note, even the main captions/titles etc. being in English is also useful as many (even viewers) might speak and understand Tamil but but may not be able to read and write (incl. myself, hence commenting in English). Fortunately India is a melting pot of many languages and cultures but unfortunately we have ended up relying on English as the lingua franca (although it’s worked out to our advantage in the world)… but let me not go there!
I didn’t intend to nor wanted to get into this (would be my first/last time) but it’s hard to see this come up on top almost every other episode 😔 It would be nice to see insights, comments on music! I also wrote to thank the organizers and judges as well for being considerate and doing this! Apologies for what ended up to be such a long comment!! 😮 😂

While the neraval and swaram sections were executed decently well, the execution on the tukkada portion - where no improvisation was expected nor any curveballs thrown her way - left much to be desired. Dharini’s performance in this section was far from satisfactory. Over confidence? Too much focus on the manodharma aspects? ஆனைக்கும் அடி சறுக்கும்.
It's unfortunate to see such statements. In fact, instead of over confident, she's looking indeed tired after a long haul. Judging and passing a cheap comment is always easy sitting on this side of the wall. It's a mixed bag and all about learning and moving ahead.

She didn’t seem overconfident at all but diligent and tried to give her best, even with the “surprise question”, although the Tukkada wasn’t her best for what seemed like other reasons… she did seem tired. Btw, i’ve heard BMK sing “tillana nadhirdhim, and not takadhim” for the kuntala varali tillana 😊 oh well, I hope she’ll realize that. They will learn to take everything in stride as they move along but we can help them out a bit by motivating and giving feedback constructively if we can, and also including positive aspects which are always there. Vid. Shashikiran also aptly lightened that situation. I do hope the contestants would just focus on the judges feedback, nonetheless it’s the right thing to do as a community.

Very unkind comment. Just try to sing on the stage in front of the accomplished artistes at that age. We must encourage otherwise we won’t get future gen Carnatic artists
