Probably gonna be a controversial one; I have a weird relationship with these games. I think this is such an interesting take because my introduction to Ratchet and Clank was the future series and when I played them I was more enthralled by the sci fi aspect of the characters and what I thought was the interesting lore between the characters. I later picked up the PS2 games when they came out with the HD collection and they felt like totally different games to me so I can completely understand why OG PS2 R&C fans do not like the direction that they have been going as of late
The future trilogy. More like defanging trilogy. All the edge and social commentary was surgically removed and replaced with 'muh generic chosen one story'
Insomniac originally intend for Ratchet&Clank A Crack In Time to be the last game. Don't know why they didn't just end it. I don't like it when games have too many sequels, that causes games to become empty, repetitive and plain soulless..
You can't say that on GOWR, and ratchet rift apart was kinda nice. Not as good as the PS2 ones, but Rivet and the awesome cinematic gameplay were really charming.
14:40 This is the first time I've heard someone say the weapon leveling was an awful addition, let alone had any major bad things about it. I'm interested in seeing you elaborate on why the weapon leveling system sucks in the game series.
I honestly didn't find Tools of Destruction memorable. I honestly forget what happened in the story and weapons. Need to look it up But the Original Trilogy and Deadlocked I can remember my favorite weapons and moments without looking it up
22:57 FUCKING FINALLY! im so glad to see someone love into the nexus just as much as i do to consider it the best of the ps3 games (in my case, I'd say it's my overall favorite ratchet game as a whole, but eh.), this game is so underrated. Tho, I'm not gonna lie, I was anticipating you to not like it. Then you pulled this, and you earned my respect. I'm so glad I'm finding more appreciation for into the nexus.
You know what I just realized? Insomniac seemingly ghosted Talwyn Apogee in _Rift Apart_ the same way the Future saga did Angela, despite Talwyn being a prominent character in the Dimensionator plot line. Hilarious!
At 4:30 when you asked for the viewer to name 5 planets from the future saga I admit I couldn't. I remembered that comet with the iris super computer from tools of destruction and that pirate planet where you fight captain slag. But I couldn't remember their actual names. The closest I got was the name "Kellog". And that's the company who owns corn flakes, not a planet name :P
I agree with you 99.9%. Only thing I don’t agree with is what you said on ship combat in crack in time. Ship combat in that game is complete ass. Being locked in place on the y axis makes flying around feel so lifeless and boring, not to mention it take all of the challenge out of the combat. Roll and fire homing missiles… truly riveting combat. I much prefer the ship combat in going commando where you actually have full control over the ship and I think it’s a shame they abandoned that gameplay
I noticed you have the preorder armour from Into the Nexus, I was curious if you have the NTSC version or the PAL version, you see current game preservation efforts have preserved the PAL version of the preorder upgrade but not the NTSC version and it would be really cool if it could be preserved, only a person with the DLC can do it, and it requires a hacked PS3 to be able to get the RAP file which is the missing piece of the puzzle, it's hard to come across people that have it as it's the worst selling game in the series
Agree with everything, this was cathartic to hear, you're able to word the faults well, I couldn't lay my finger on onto why these games feel so empty compared to the older ones.
As a gift in one of my christmas a long time ago I got R&C OD and my sister got R&C ACIT very good games and still love them Altho my real first entry with the series was Up Your Arsenal (amazing first ratchet game) To put it simply *Great childhood*
For as a strange heelturn the future trilogy is I still really like a crack in time a good way to end the story. Everything after has been this weird limbo where nothing happens, and Rift apart I felt was a weird reboot continuation hybrid where it tries to be new start for fans while doing everything it can for call backs and references but doesn't take the plot points it so desperately shoves into your face (the lombaxes) that it doesn't have the guts to truly commit to which is just so jarring compared to everything pre crack in time.
They wanted to but it was too difficult. Considering the PS3 architecture is notoriously difficult to work with i think it's understandable why they at the time didn't port it to PS4, although i think it would be nice if in the future we got it remastered in 4K on PS5
I agree that Nexus is the best of the ps3 era. Plus there's a point that i never saw nobody make. The weapon designs are actually cool in Nexus, most of the ps3 era weapons looks plain ugly and uninspired look wise, with 2 or 3 exeptions. I hate the constructo weapons for the simple fact that they are the ugliest weapons in the whole serie by far. Also... Did Gearbox steal their vilains from this game for Borderlands 3 ?? 😂
Up your aresenal, and Size matters are my favorites but its all a matter of what you enjoy, I think that the future series is meh compared to the PS2 games
It's mostly through comparison "this and that were better on PS2". Always comparing the old games. Yeah they were good but if you look at the future saga by themselves they really aren't as bad as people picture them to be. I do agree with a lot of the points in this vid tho

Game had an identity crisis with UYA and Deadlocked but they recovered and made the games good again with ToD and Acit.
Going commando is also kinda to blame for the dull storyline and repetitive levels
