People are harder on Chloe because she has more resources than the average artist. She has already made several albums with her sister and performed for the royal family in England with several performances in several stadiums. The album was rushed and unfinished, there were several great starts but the short ending made most songs feel like elevator music.
Chloe album flopped because she concentrated too much on being sexy and following the crowd and not focusing on her authentic self and beautiful vocal skills. Sex doesn't sell when your audience expects better from you!
I don’t know. Most of the songs are not about sex at all. I think marketing for this album was a complete failure. I also think the album just doesn’t feel “full”. I don’t know how else to explain it.
“Ppl are too critical” I’m sorry but if EVERYONE is saying the same thing, maybe it’s an artist problem & not the public’s 🤷♀️ultimately you are making a product & putting it out to the masses for consumption. If the public isn’t consuming or feelin your stuff then it’s time to recognize where the most criticism is coming from & adjust or continue losing money for your record label. Yes it’s cute to be pro woman & “discovering” yourself but it’s also a business. This is her JOB. To do your job well you have to take in the criticism & decide what needs to be worked on & maybe what needs more authenticity. She’s just selling something that doesn’t come off genuine.
Idk as a northerner with southern family roots, the south DEFINITELY has a unique swag to it so idk if I agree. I do however believe that Chloe being raised as a southern church girl who was homeschooled and now taking on this more sexual persona yet herself even admitting that she’s not that sexually experienced or driven… shows. I feel like within her performance her being more sexual and dominant in nature is natural and inherent to her. She looks up to Beyoncé who only had like 2 boyfriends that we know of her entire life but has been and continues to be a sex symbol. But it even took a while for Beyoncé to make sexually explicit music and curse in her music. I think even with Beyoncé it took a while for that to come so naturally and comfortable to her. But I think because sexually explicit, and generally explicit music with sort of “hood” undertones is what’s popping in RnB right now ala Sza or say a Summer Walker, Chloe feels like she has to take her music in that direction even though it’s not authentic to her. Cuz we love Summer Walker for her “fourth baby momma” music because that’s her real authentic life. Yet Chloe making all these records about cheating and “fuck niggas” sounds weird from the girl we see in her interviews. It feels like an act. Because there’s a reason why I love Blind by Sza where she’s talking about “niggas want me to get ratchet” on an acoustic guitar, but whatever Chloe talking about on Cheatback with future don’t make any sense.
I think it’s also that there’s a bunch of people out now already doing all the varied sounds and subject matter that Chloe is doing at a higher level than she is. It’s like her and her sister had alternative RnB down to a science. Yet she’s trying to get on the Summer Walker, Sza wave when we have that already. Sza mixes alternative RnB and pop so well but think there’s room for Chloe in that lane too especially cuz she’s a vocal powerhouse. She just needs to stop trying chase trends and be her authentic to herself, which she seems to be a nerdy girl who LOVES music production, her family and performance, maybe a little sheltered too, with a BANGING ass body. Like she can be all of these things and doesn’t have to play up certain things over other things.
OH MY GOD!!! THANK YOU SERIOUSLY!!! Cause I have FELT this for AWHILE NOW LMAO. I personally LOVE her being hypersexual cause I am a hypersexual gurlll LOL. WITH THAT BEING SAID, this whole fuck nigga fuck nigga fuck nigga and Cheatback, yeahhh CHLOE WHAT HAHAHA. That to me seems FORCED as fuck. Very much giving, THE LABEL PUSHED IT LOL. Cause like you said, in interviews and the videos I seen on the internet of her just being her TRUE SELF, she is NOT about dat HOOD Nigga lifestyle.
Chloe would really benefit from having more mystic about herself. People say she’s corny because her music doesn’t match her personality. She’s always child-like and bubbly in interviews, but then goes on a record and says sht like “have you ever wondered who else is fkn your man”…. It’s just not translating
Ungodly hour was so good. I think people just had high expectations. Her fan base was made from those who appreciated her alternative unique and fresh sound over the basic raunchy played out sounds. Then she turns around and completely flips her image to the other side of the spectrum. It’s just disappointing and no one has to be forced to like her music. Let’s keep it real, ppl are just holding out because the talent is bursting from the seams but is yet to be used affectively. And I been a fan since the UA-cam days.
people are frustrated because she can sing and we don’t want to see this whole fake sexy thing we want to hear her sing amazing songs. She is selling her self short with the whole mainstream sexy overload thing. It looks unauthentic because she actually has talent
yeah like if she wants to be sexy then be it, she could just stand on the stage wearing a see-through long gown or something & focus on her singing instead.
One more thought I'd like to add. Part of me feels like this is low-key what some of the fans get for being so thirsty for Chloe's solo career. It seems like when "Ungodly Hour" dropped, there was just this whole swarm, (no pun intended), of people who were like "It's Chloe's time!" "Chloe needs to go solo" "Halle's holding Chloe back." To me, the only downside to watching the duo's stellar performances at that time was that with each one, that rhetoric became more and more amped up. I absolutely believe that they would've put out solo projects eventually, but I do feel like Chloe, and potentially her label, responded to that push from the fanbase and jumped on the "Solo Chloe" train before Chloe and her team we're really ready to go that route. It's a true testament to how microwavable we've become as consumers when all we need is two albums and some curves before we decide that somebody has "arrived."
Exactly y’all wantend her to go solo sooooo bad and now that she it’s a problem it was just good 2 3 years ago right?😂😅Listen I love Chloe I really like I said in my own review she has time grow as a artist 🙌🏾🔥👏🏾✨
Overall, I didn't like this album. There are a few songs on it that I think are beautiful and enjoyed listening to, but I honestly don't care if I ever hear them again. Just like every other solo work Chloe has released thus far, (with the exception of her rendition of "Feeling Good"), this album sounds like 20% Chloe and 80% label to me. Since the release of "Have Mercy," I've given a lot of thought to the idea that Halle may be the mastermind behind their sound, and I actually don't think it's quite that simple. Each girl has a very unique style and voice of her own, and while they blended them seamlessly, each individual's influence was distinguishable; I feel like l heard both Chloe and Halle on all of their joint projects enough that I can't say in good faith that one sister was solely responsible for the Chloe x Halle sound. I think the Halle effect that's most noticeably absent in Chloe's solo career so far is the confidence and free spiritedness. Both girls are musical mavericks, and they know it, but I feel like Halle is much more comfortable with that than Chloe is; if you listen to their interviews and livestreams spanning from "The Kids Are Alright" to "Ungodly Hour," you will hear the two of them talk repeatedly about how their different personalities manifest in their creative process, and how they balanced each other out. Chloe is the super sensitive one, so when she's making something for the public, she admittedly freaks out, she becomes methodical, almost to a point of rigidity, because she wants it to be perfect so that people will love it; and she's always called Halle her "anchor," stating that Halle, in her own easy-going way, reminded her to have fun and be free in her creativity, and to have confidence in her abilities. So it's not that Chloe is less of a genius without Halle, it's just she's more comfortable being a genius with sis around.
Chloe is the main producer of CXH. If you check out their mixtape "The Two of Us", you would see Chloe is the sole songwriter and producer on 3 tracks. In my opinions, her debut album is okay, not phenomenal but i think it's a good start. People seem to be really harsh on Chloe, i think she's still trying to find her own sound and it may take some time. She's a musical prodigy and I put my trust on her next albums. But I agree with you that Chloe and Halle complement each other very well. About CXH, their joint albums are phenomenal, especially their second album "Ungodly Hour". However, it only debuted at no. 16. If people wanna hear more albums from the duo, they better support them more on their next projects.
@@sherrynguyen6341 I know that a lot of CXH production is credited to Chloe, she's the one that musically blends the two of their styles into cohesive tracks, I was making the point that you could still hear both sister's musical input in their joint projects, because they each have very different sensibilities. They're both very skilled musicians, and both have stated that their contribution and effort toward their joint projects were equal, they just played different roles.
I'm going to say this loud: Chloe, please ignore the urban market and focus on pop. The urban market just wants to critique and hate AND most importantly the mainstream Urban market were not Chloe x Halle's core base to begin with. Chloe wanted to go alt pop r&b and that was clear from her first few singles. Then there was the pressure to be more r&b. Then she starts making that and people don't listen to it. This is because the people talking about her by large were not fans of Chloe x Halle besides knowing they could sing. Chloe is sidetracking herself for people that were not supporting her to begin with
That’s what I’m saying, the money and the fans aren’t even in the urban market right now! That Alt R&B and Pop is where Chloe was shining and excelling but as soon as ppl in that market started to catch on that’s when the Beyoncé comparisons, the Chloe should go solo, and the New Superstar things started to erupt! All in all Once Chloe sees that all they want to do and critique and judge her she’ll move foward and be the star she is fam 🩵 🌟
I think Ungodly hour was what it was because it was both their unique individual sounds in an album. This may be unpopular but I think the Ungodly Hour element that we loved and now miss is Halle👀 I am not comparing the two sisters at all but it is another way to look at it.
You and others are still talking about how much you liked Ungodly Hour, but yall didn't buy or stream that either! It had low numbers just like In Pieces has now! Chloe is solo now but, people expect her to still look and sound like ChloexHalle. That's ridiculous! CxH will do future albums together, and maybe some of yall will actually buy and stream their music! People like to talk a lot, but I know that some of you only spend money on your favs. I think yall believe that if you support Chloe, that would take numbers from your favorites. Y'all act like yall can only be loyal to the leader of your cult-like group! Lol (swarm) Chloe has not figured everything out yet, but she makes good music! I will continue to enjoy her album from start to finish! I will support other artists as well. nobody's gonna tell me how to spend my money! No shade to anyone, just facts!
IMO, Chloe fell in love with the attention she was getting. She said it herself, she wasn’t always confident and was insecure etc. Many girls who grow up like that end up finding confidence but not necessarily knowing how to deal with it. Then add the public eye and the pressure of bring B’s Protoje, it can go very.. left. Chloe is amazingly special, I just wish she’d realize that.
Her music sounds too commercial and is not a sound that would work currently because of “the girls” which is her target audience. The girls are tired of the “crying over the man trope” which is what this album is. We want songs like boy’s a liar and fly girl. Even the r&b men don’t sound commercialized from Brent faiyaz to masego to lucky daye. Right now we’re in the era of paying tribute to what came before but also creating something new with those past concepts.
Chloe’s marketing is also all wack the concepts don’t flo together. She needs a sole theme and I think the sexy concepts were shown to soon it should have been a gradual process.
I think we are tired of the "sexually liberated" hypersexuality shit. I would like a "destiny fulfilled " type album from Chloe 🤦🏽♀️ not a sukianna album 🤦🏽♀️
the intro track “someone’s calling” really pulled me in. that’s what i want from her. it gave theatrics. it works for her because shes fierce and passionate onstage. the rest of the album didn’t move me at all sadly. i still have hope for her next body of work in the future.
I feel like this is just another album by another R&B girl. I expected it to be much bolder and much more experimental. This album felt very by-the-numbers.
I think people should give Chloe some grace. She is still trying to figure out what her sound is as an individual artist, and that can take some time. She should be allowed to experiment and make mistakes along the way, it will only help her grow as an artist in the long run. I don't think the album was that bad as people are making it out to be. I think a lot of the songs have the potential to grow on me. She can only go up from here
I didn't understand why they decided to split chloe and halle up when they were finally starting to make some noise in the industry as a duo! Cause let's be real chloe and halle ran the industry all 2020!!! From music to looks to performances they killed everything!
In an ideal world. Halle would have been filming TLM, as Chloe was behind the scenes really getting the time to create Everything felt so rushed, so it’s not surprising that we’re seeing Chloe have a lot of...trial and error moments But I have a strong feeling the next C&H album will shift things around for them both, especially Chloe They also need to fulfil their contractual obligations with Parkwood, then get the heck on 🏃🏾♀️
Y’all the album is boring. It’s not a bad first album. The shit is just boring and doesn’t rlly bring anything new. She def has room to grow from here but it’s kinda just like any other commercial rnb album atm
The album was boring and was low key giving me Glee vibes. I have been more excited to hear from Halle. I love Chlöe but I think she completely turned off her audience to try to attract an audience that doesn’t relate to her. She is beautiful I wish she didn’t over sexualize herself because her personality and talent speaks for itself. She thinks it’s because people don’t want to see her grow up when really people respect her and her sister so much that they don’t want her to go the route she is going. I wish her the best though, once she figures it out she is going to be unstoppable.
i would agree, but lets not forget that chloe is the one who produced all of their beats... not discrediting halle's enchanting vocals, great ear and guitar skills, but chloe was the one sitting and building those beats from scratch.
You cut up a FEW times buttt i see what you mean. I can’t stress enough how it’s SO sad to see such a talented SOUL struggle so so much with her work, with her fans, with her image. Idk i just love her and I love that she is just SO talented but it really do hurt to see such a talent struggle idk
If she wants to be Beyonce then she gone need to hire MATTHEW KNOWLES! He has the blueprint for Beyonces success. His strategic marketing, trimming, EVERYTHING is what launched solo career that got her where she ism Chloe needs MATTHEW!
That’s my issue with Chöle, she became basic run of the mill with her solo career. I’ve been following them since they were singing covers on UA-cam. The projects they’ve released have been in the same realm as their UA-cam covers and style. As a matter of fact I was listening to their song Simple which was a response to critics saying their music was too complex. So it’s like she downgraded her normal level of creativity and complexity for perceived marketability. Also I want to add Chöle is also just corny. 😂 I’m from the south we have our own swag like you said Beyoncé came from the south and think of all the rappers who came up out the south. If someone from the south is corny it’s because they’re corny. I also wouldn’t say it’s trickle down of swag especially if you consider the fact that the great migration export a lot of southern Black culture up north.
This was a good review. In Pieces is lacking several pieces. I don’t know what happened because I love Ungodly hour. QUESTION: Do y’all get a sense of exaggeration from Chloe that translates to being inauthentic? Sometimes I don’t believe what she is singing. Does she have enough relationship experience to sing what she is singing to make it authentic or is she exaggerating? Idk if I’m explaining this well I feel Chloe ‘on stage’ is TOO DRASTICALLY different from the Chloe I see off stage. It doesn’t seem authentic. I understand duality and versatility but when it’s TOO much of a drastic difference, it feels corny and forced Also, She has better IG pics than the album cover. Her team could’ve made the cover concept look better Idk something is not adding up but anyway…I can’t wait for Halles album and when they collaborate together again
I agree! You explained it well. It’s not the fact that she’s overly sexual (because there are so many artists who are, who aren’t cringy) but it seems forced by her. I don’t believe it when she sings.
big fan of Chlöe x Halle and felt the new album was good but the same as you - it was missing that extra oomphf!! I hope they make music together again bc ungodly hour was such a game changer
I love that you're being honest, no bs to make the fans happy. Also I don't get the point of her being a doll for the album cover if she isn't going to expand on that in an artistic way. She could've created a UNIVERSE for her pain, the same way tyler has over the years with his art. It feels like there was no direction whatsoever. Its a 4/10 for me
I agree. I love chloe and I love Halle but when you started talking about why chloe doesn’t have that same sound from the bar she set with ungodly hour I do feel like the missing key is Halle 😩and I know they’re both solo now so I hate to say that.
Halle soft, minimalist vocals was a good balance with chloe’s maximalism. Halles “Love me.. “ On the quarantine show and chloe’s run after that left me shoook. The two of them together was just soooo good
I think people put to much on her. Let her be in her feelings bag. Like it or love it. The art that was given to the world, should be viewed and interpreted. She literally explained that during this process she was in a space of uncertain about her, her body, her voice, her being, etc. Let her get through this passage of time. She literally says she’s in her healing error. I think people also forget that this album is about feelings, break up, being cheated on, want him but don’t need him, feeling empty. If you don’t know the story you can’t follow the music. Watch her interviews. Y’all gotta do better ppl.
i think chloe is trying to make music that fits in with the masses so pop r&b vibes. Which is so odd to me if you’ve listened to kids are alright and especially the two of us their ep from like 2017 chloe excels at alt r&b I’d wish she continued to make her experimental music but i understand that she wants to try other things
there are some artists that are really big rn that are successful while having an alt r&b sound as well, like sza and kali uchis. she could definitely still continue with the experimental sound, it doesn't mean that it will automatically be a commercial failure. other than have mercy, a lot of these more upbeat songs still aren't doing well, a lot of them just feel empty.
I could not have said it better myself!! But I’m labeled a hater 😂 Definitely has moments but I believe she is capable of more. I feel like she is holding back tbh.
Ok! So I’ve listened to it all...and it’s amazing! The quality is so good, the genre swinging, the electro break in Feel Me Cry, so many great songs which are even better live....which is her strength, btw As a first solo album, this is hot! A strong 7/10, because I know she has a LOT more in her Some of the issue is most of us know how amazing Chloe is, so the expectations are far higher, which is obviously a gift/curse. I Don’t Mind Feel Me Cry In Pieces Cheat Back Make it Look Easy are my top tracks...For the Night, Have Mercy, Treat Me & Surprise should have been on there. Overall, was pleasantly surprised, In Pieces is a strong first album, so congratulations Ms. Chloe Bailey! 🎉💖💖💖
Chloe and Halle still have more room to grow. This solo project should have been a mixtape. I think there is so much for them to experience before they are ready to go solo. I’m sorry but i need an ungodly hour tour first
Thank you! I’ve been trying to explain this to people but they keep calling me a hater. This album is FINE but Ungodly Hour was that fuckin’ girl. And because of that, I can’t even get through this music. Chloe seems frantic, disconnected, disingenuous & I just do not like this music. And these weird ass dialogues and interludes that have nothing to do with the music? Just so many odd choices.
Chloe and Halley should of did a good run together. I’m all about individuality and I feel like if I am in the position I would be at a place where I can’t wait to have my own platform however I think Chloe really wanted to dive after the attention on TikTok. You can’t be to easy to fall for the hype because I feel like she can’t even do anything right in anyone’s eyes but, if she stayed true a little longer, we would of gotten a better feel for them both!
Can I agree with you wholeheartedly? It wasn’t bad. But from the maker of ungodly hour, I was highly disappointed. All of the short songs needed to be longer. I did not I like the album. And I bought the album, but it’s not something I Care to listen to fully again. But dnt get me wrong I LOVE ChLoe and Halle Edit : bc I was being to harsh bc I do love the first half of the album. I’m jst upset bc I dnt get her vibe frm the album , jst generic, good songs, overall
I love Chloe..the point of an artist is to sell their self to the people and Chloe isn’t doing a good job at that..I understand wanting to remove yourself from social media and protect your mental..but Chloe needs to really self reflect and see why the people are not connecting...it’s because she’s comes off very forced, unnatural, and cringy and the people can see through that..I wish she’d just put the pride aside and take some constructive criticism from her fans (not haters)..she’s marketed as a “city girl” when she’s not that..she’s a nerd and a sweetheart she has locs and she’s a vocal genius..that’s what sets her apart and that’s what she needs to sell to the people.
Listen!! There’s just so much abt her that is unique and naturally makes her who she is. She doesn’t even need to sell it, her voice is enough as is. I was so looking forward to seeing how her personality translates to sound. I find it very hard to believe that this album reflects her most authentic self. How sway??
Agreed. I think they were look ooh, she got booty, let’s market her as a ‘baddie’. They got her fitting in instead of standing out and it’s cringe. We can all tell something is off. I’ve never seen a starlet come off this uncomfortable in their brand. I hope they fix if soon
THANK YOU! Even if she wants to do the whole sexy thing, she can still find a way to bring in her nerdy sweetheart side. Its like 2 different people when shes making music and on ig live or something
Chloe is consistently ignoring her fanbase and her true sound, to fit into the mold shaped by people who don't even like her. When she released that song with CB, I had to doubletake and say, does she even understand her fanbase??? From the youtube days to the mixtape days... she consistently preached women empowerment to us...for over 10 yrs. To do that collab with him and Future was something else, even though the song was a bop. Bop or not, it just showed how far gone she is from her own messaging, and how she wants her image and music to be received. I understand she's in the business and has to play the game, but CxH built a 3 milli strong fanbase around their fresh sound, authenticity, experimentation, and genuine kindness. She's the one who set our standards so high for her, to see her lower them and expect us all to follow along unfortunately is not working out for her. I truly want to see her win. And I know she will, whether I am a fan or not, she just has a tough adjustment to go through in finding herself and her true sound, outside of her sexuality and outside of her sound with Halle. I am now only following along with Halle and I have higher hopes for her solo album because from her snippets, it's clear that she's leaning into her strengths and staying true to who she is. I love love love that she is going for a more Janet Jackson style with this new album. I hope Chloe starts to lean into her strengths more too-- producing, experimenting, her vocal arrangements, and think less about her 'haters.' I honestly could see her being more like early Kimbra than early Beyonce.
It was disappointing for me. But I’m in my 30s and I grew up loving 80s/90s R&B so that maybe why I didn’t like her album. But she’s super talented nonetheless. And I hope she keeps getting better. Now I do feel like if SZA or Summer Walker made the album, people would like it more. Because their cadence would work better on the songs. SZA and Summer create ratchet breakup songs well and it always hits with their audience.
@@tias.6675 Yes! Same here. I did like Have Mercy. But I haven’t connected with any of her other solo records. I like Chloe x Halle music more than her solo work.
Albums are suppose to help you understand the “theme” of an artist, and for her being so private sexual and spiritual it just confused me more, it was generic topics, heartbreak and haters, I wanted more and I wanted to say as a fan I know her better now, Chloe is this this and this, all I know now is she still has an identity crisis and she hasn’t dug deep enough as a solo artist, wish her the best regardless ❤
I am glad I am not the only person who thinks that , I listened to it and honestly did not live up to what I thought it would . She should have made an EP then gave us the vocals , harmonies and the melody in an actual album I just thought it lacked true artistry from her it was very basic opposite of what we were sold
I agree with you when you said Chloe constructed the album around the tour and not the other way. She's most likely the type of artist who thinks of every aspect of a song from conception to performance.
First of all- love you Herby! But I’ve been telling my friends that Ungodly Hour was nothing short of amazing. I think they both they’re own amazing vocalists that bring two different things to become a beautiful body of work. My BIGGEST problem? In their separation there was no soft launch to Chloe’s development and exploration as her own artist. It was really quick and very different from how we were introduced to her. It caused a rift in her audience and I feel like that’s where most of the rude backlash comes from( especially her non-fans and the shade room community😭) I honestly don’t know who she wants her audience to be and right now I hate the backlash she’s getting. But I hope she really starts to develop im her sound and vision for her next work
I think the girls decided to do their own albums because it's a quick way to fulfill the 6 album record deal with parkwood. They barely got any money from the record deal and they have more people in their ear telling them what they can and cannot put out. Halle will be dropping her album soon and then they'll have one more album left to finish their record deal. Then they can really profit off their music and be as creative as they want. Chloe and Halle are not making money from music, which is why they both took up acting. I believe their parents knew what they were doing when they signed that deal. It's only a matter of time before Chloe blows up, but it has to be after she leaves Parkwood.
Not only were the songs just not really hitting for me, I'm extremely disappointed in her collaboration with Chris Brown. He's well-known as being a violent, woman abusing colorist. I won't be supporting this album but Chloe is still young and learning. She's undeniably talented, so I'll be waiting for what she puts out next
I was definitely disappointed…she is selling her self short by trying to fit in a market that her talent and creativity doesn’t belong in so it comes off cringy . That intro track was CHLOE everything else any other artist could have done.
I completely agree with you herby, the album isn’t necessarily cohesive, but the theme is consistent throughout. The music itself, like the stylistic choices for the songs very much give “let’s throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.” It’s a mixing pot of sounds and it’s not a bad thing especially since Chloe is a producer…but because she is an underling of beyonce, I think we all expected more from her. I also think behind the scenes things weren’t really planned out fully. For example, videos aren’t done, she’s still making content for the album. If you really wanna get into it, it just seems like she needed more artist development and more confidence to not give into the sexy image that was probably paved for her. ChloexHalle’s first two EPs were beautiful because of its individuality and I think Chloe tugs between that and mainstream attention. For now, tour it out, make a coin, then she should go back to the drawing board and really figure things out for how she can be true to who she is and genuinely express that.
She compares herself to Beyoncé and y'all Need to see It !! Everything She does Is inspired by bey.. the cheatback video in reverse? Me myself and i by bey. I personally think She waa Better with her sister Halle .. they complimented eachother so well.. 😢
@@FrayBombTV the reason of being mean? 😂 If you do everything that She did in her younger Age to me it's more than being inspired.. it's more like ' i want to be her so i do this thing like She did'. And that's comparing. She should take another Road , this One Is not for her, they Will never have the same carisma. But everybody likes what they likes so 🤷🏼♀️
She just needs to find who she is without the outside influences and combine that with the confidence to do her and not trend and when she does, everyone gonna eat- I can feel itttt
Chloe is selling an image her target audience simply does not believe in. They don’t believe she’s that girl! And honestly she’s not. She’s not dating the futures etc… She not the bad girl persona she’s selling so people are not buying.
Let me ask you this. Are "bad girls" the only one who deal with the toxicity in relationships, cheating boyfriends? Maybe you should watch her interview with Nessa for context.
@@r.johnson1170 ikr lol . She’s been cheated on, in toxic relationships and done toxic things just like the bad girls . Nothing wrong with having a more gentle soft spoken personality in real life vs your music . Reminds me of the Jackson’s . The artist normani is the same way . Music brings out what people are too afraid to show in real life. Even when Chloe does show it though people say she’s doing too much .
@@nolipoli430 That's what ya'll don't want, but that is where she was in life when she made that album and so that is the content that she wanted to make.
I disagree with language and music. Much of the slang we use came from New York. And hip hop started in New York as well. But yeah, the South has a large influence.
@@anastasiathehiphopfairy most of the slang we use came from “broken” English during slavery times which was predominantly in the South. Rock, bluegrass, jazz, gospel, and more are all genres that developed in the South.
I agree mostly everything started in the south especially music. The one exception being hip hop. And with the great migration, most people living in northern cities were originally from the south.
the cover ate down. some of the tracks ate. she chose the wrong singles and certain songs are way too short, being interludes when they bomb asf and should’ve been full songs fr. some songs were mid. so over all, it’s a mid album but she’s my girl and imma stand beside her 😌🤞🏾
why black ppl from the north insist that southern black culture somehow isn’t its own entity and their “swag” trickeles down to us I will never understand. Just completely disrespecting cities like Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte etc.
The singles she released were supposed to be on the album I agree this was not a good body of work all of the singles she has should’ve been weaved into this work.
HERBY YOU BUGGIN! You telling me the Northeast peppers Southern swag when the whole US using the word “y’all” right now 😂 I will always defend the South as the TRENDSETTER in slang, music, and SWAG.
I honestly don’t know how you don’t have more folowers! You’re incredible! I haven’t listened to the album just out of my personal values bc I can’t stand abusers and Chris Brown and was heartbroken when she worked with him. Especially after championing herself for Black women. I can say, however, that Chloe is way too talented to not know her audience and miss the mark that was HERS for the taking! Truly thought this would be Grammy material (not that that means much anymore) but was very disappointed with the singles and what I’ve heard so far
I don’t think Chloe is corny, I just think she’s trying to figure out who she is as an artist so it looks like she’s trying to be something she’s not. I can’t imagine having to go through that in front of everyone and then having everyone criticize you for what you do. I didn’t care for the album, but Ima still listen to what she’s giving.
I think Halle's musical influence on the sound was such a good point because the snippets of her solo music sound so beautiful and deffo more reminiscent of ungodly music. I'm looking forward to hearing Halle's debut. As for Chlöe's debut it was okay. Loved the intro but felt she played a little safe but She's still growing as an artist.
It’s sad Halle can’t break out that box, if her music is just a continuation of her CxH music why even do it solo? Give us something different and fun, her snippets all sound the same and are boring. No risks nothing interesting to talk abt
@@itzcandy5896 Halle KNOW herself and her musical sound. She doesn't need to experiment and all that because she already knows who she is as an artist. Something that Chloe lacks and has shot her in the foot. Not all artists need to try to be everything to everyone, especially on their FIRST project. You need that cohesiveness and vision to show the world what you represent and then you can step outside/grow from that space DOWN THE ROAD!
@@itzcandy5896 none of Halle’s snippets sound the same… she has snippets that consists of jazz , R&B , and rock… we know you don’t like Halle but you don’t have to lie like this…
I agree that cheat back didn't need future haha! I saw the performance on Jimmy Kimmel before I heard it with the feature and I don't think future made the song any better.
i kinda feel like the track placement added to the disappointment. like having sings like body do after pray me away makes no sense. she could’ve completely redone the placement and a lot more people would’ve felt differently
The comment about the South having trickle-down swag is crazy. especially considering that the south is where black culture in the US originates and all black music is rooted in southern black traditions brought from enslaved peoples. It looks different so maybe you don't have an appreciation for it but the South has its own thing going on. No trickle-down needed.
People obsessed with ice spice when her music is god forsakenly trash. I cant take these think piece’s seriously. Her album was alright, definitely not worth all this hoopla.
There’s a difference tho. People expect better when you’ve done better. If people have no expectations of you, you literally cannot disappoint people. But bc people know what Chloe is capable, they will be disappointed if the quality is not as good as former work. Her solo music isn’t bad, it’s just okay. But ungodly hour was amazing.
Ice spice is very laid back with her raunchiness . Which is interesting. All she needs now is a big budget for music videos and garments, a fly producer and she be on the Top! Chloe is a natural flop. End of
I would honestly hate to be Chloe. The pile on is always so unnecessary. If you can’t get into her, please stop trying. There’s people that actually enjoy her and this album.
@@atlastvera8567 I'm sorry but no Beyonce fans are checking for Chloe be FR. CXH fans are the only ones who were really paying attention and she changed herself so much trying to appeal to the shade room audience and lost something in the process. Before this Chloe Self Produced their Alternative R&B album that sounded nothing like Beyonce. We know what she is capable of which is why some of us are disappointed. The song she made for swarm was the type of music we all wanted from her The singles were good but didn't have enough time to build momentum because of her rushed rollout, her features were two toxic old men known for making the same generic music over and over that her core audience doesn't f with, the album tracks were lackluster and boring, the album cover looked similar to an album made by a smaller indie artist, the only things that was consistently good was her live performances and the snippets but those simply set our expectations too high.
I listened to her album once and have never thought about revisiting it. "In Pieces" was not a good album. The Chris Duet, Pray it Away, and Title track are the best songs, but still fall flat. Maybe I am just old and am used to authentic R&B and quality lyrics...
Congratulations! Ms. Chloe Bailey! Album is FIRE!!!. Right/Wrong - expressing yourself on your own terms. It's your journey, nobody's else. Make decisions how you want to express yourself - your own, not folks who wants to lock you into an image that works for them. You are a very beautiful, gifted, talented and gorgeous young woman. I am here for all of your God given human expressions and journeys. Btw, trolls need to get some love and joy into their own lives. 🙂❤❤❤
I loved *Body do* I just wished she had a music video for it and *Told Ya* I can't get behind Chris brown but I must admit I liked the song. *Heart on My Sleeve* is pretty too.
Yes Pray It Away definitely should’ve been a deep cut. She released tooo many singles. Chris Brown feature should’ve DEFINITELY not been a single considering her audience. Also the album cover was not good at all. Maybe a full body shot with her in a box surrounded by broken glass and she’s holding a bleeding heart. It just all felt rushed
It's quality music, but the songs are better alone. When I listen to the full album, it gets boring fast. Worried, I Don't Mind, Feel Me Cry, and Pray It Away are my favs in that order
People hyped her up to digging her feet into an approach that was selling/charting less and less with each release. People on twitter defended every move she made but it seems only for the sake of arguing instead of actually being fans who listen to her music. Now that the album is here most of those loud “y’all just hate women” tweeters aren’t even listening or buying. The streams are way too low for all of y’all to have even listened or supported the way y’all pretended to on twitter. Followers and numbers doesn’t convert to sales. I think we’re all still figuring out internet hype versus a true response from the general public
As a New Yorker, I understood exactly what you meant 😂😂. My brother actually produced "Body do". I was going to listen to her album, but I couldn't get over most of the songs being 2 minutes and change. I guess I'm too old school lol.
I Don't mind, Told Ya and Body Do were solid and so was the intro as expected but they're the only songs that really stood out to me. A lot of the ballads, while cute, felt like filler to me which wasn't the case with her and halle's older albums were the ballads were powerful and didn't seem to drag. And a lot of the songs that sounded promising in the snippets were either too short or sounded like they were missing something.
People are harder on Chloe because she has more resources than the average artist. She has already made several albums with her sister and performed for the royal family in England with several performances in several stadiums. The album was rushed and unfinished, there were several great starts but the short ending made most songs feel like elevator music.
Exactly! This is such a great point!
It’s Tik Tok music.
This!!!! She has every resource to be great and she chooses to make bad decisions and she shouldn’t still be finding herself she’s not a new artist
Exactly
Nah, people just don't like it. Just bc Beyonce mentor them don't mean everything she puts out will be liked by everyone
This should’ve been an EP. 🤷🏿♀️
What would've been the difference I'm curious
What songs would you take out
I've been saying this she wanted to be that girl before it manifested
@@xandyk2944 Less waiting , growing a fan base and developing ur universe
No, what it should have been was better either that or not have existed at all
“Ppl are too critical” I’m sorry but if EVERYONE is saying the same thing, maybe it’s an artist problem & not the public’s 🤷♀️ultimately you are making a product & putting it out to the masses for consumption.
Exactly lmao
Beautifully said..
Y'all articulated this perfectly. No notes. 10/10
Spot on!
Right, I just don't think it looks comfortable for her, she might want to come off that way, but it seems like she's pushing herself to do it
Chloe would really benefit from having more mystic about herself. People say she’s corny because her music doesn’t match her personality. She’s always child-like and bubbly in interviews, but then goes on a record and says sht like “have you ever wondered who else is fkn your man”…. It’s just not translating
100%
Exactlyyyy that lyric made me cringe so bad
Agreed.
So.... do you think bubbly people don't get cheated on?
I personally didn’t like her album, I expected some more. But this is her first album, hopefully she can learn from this
This is a critique
And I'm happy you didn't bash her.
Hoping she grows into her second album
Ungodly hour was so good. I think people just had high expectations. Her fan base was made from those who appreciated her alternative unique and fresh sound over the basic raunchy played out sounds. Then she turns around and completely flips her image to the other side of the spectrum. It’s just disappointing and no one has to be forced to like her music. Let’s keep it real, ppl are just holding out because the talent is bursting from the seams but is yet to be used affectively. And I been a fan since the UA-cam days.
Facts
EXACTLY
Perfectly explained 👌🏽
people are frustrated because she can sing and we don’t want to see this whole fake sexy thing we want to hear her sing amazing songs.
This describes their zodiac signs to a T and this makes perfect sense to me.
@@a_awake Exactly lol.
💯 I fully agree with this entire statement.
I'm going to say this loud: Chloe, please ignore the urban market and focus on pop. The urban market just wants to critique and hate AND most importantly the mainstream
Urban market were not Chloe x Halle's core base to begin with.
This may be unpopular but I think the Ungodly Hour element that we loved and now miss is Halle👀
I am not comparing the two sisters at all but it is another way to look at it.
100%
Yes
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯. I’m literally obsessed with Halle! 😩😩😩
@KneesOnNecksSaveBlkWomen’sLives girl saammeeee. But I like Chlöe's personality too. Music wise though- Halle forshoo!!
Lol (swarm)
Chloe has not figured everything out yet, but she makes good music!
@@nolipoli430 I agree leave the hypersexual stuff to the rap girls like we’re tired!!
@@Goldnotsilver exactly like rihanna. Her sexiness gradually progressed
the intro track “someone’s calling” really pulled me in. that’s what i want from her. it gave theatrics. it works for her because shes fierce and passionate onstage. the rest of the album didn’t move me at all sadly. i still have hope for her next body of work in the future.
Right I wanted it that Chloe extra vibe the whole time.
EXACTLY for me body do was the only song were It felt chole was getting there and actually showing how extra and creative she could be in the studio
She can only go up from here
What I want from Chloe is depth!!! She's too skin deep as an artiste. I don't know if you get me
I agree. Sounds commercial
I do. It’s like she tones down her depth, when it’s what makes her special. Sigh. Chloe’s solo career is frustrating 🙃
Exactly an artist must be emotionally connected to their art
I didn't understand why they decided to split chloe and halle up when they were finally starting to make some noise in the industry as a duo! Cause let's be real chloe and halle ran the industry all 2020!!! From music to looks to performances they killed everything!
Yep!!
That's not what happened
In an ideal world. Halle would have been filming TLM, as Chloe was behind the scenes really getting the time to create
Everything felt so rushed, so it’s not surprising that we’re seeing Chloe have a lot of...trial and error moments
But I have a strong feeling the next C&H album will shift things around for them both, especially Chloe
They also need to fulfil their contractual obligations with Parkwood, then get the heck on 🏃🏾♀️
Y’all the album is boring.
Hopefully Halle won’t flop
Halle was the brains behind thier sound. Listen to her snippets of her music.
Ding ding ding ding ding!
I never thought about this opinion until he stated in in this video. Interesting……
i would agree, but lets not forget that chloe is the one who produced all of their beats... not discrediting halle's enchanting vocals, great ear and guitar skills, but chloe was the one sitting and building those beats from scratch.
saying that to say that they are 10x better together than solo.
@@TH33T0PIC can’t speak on Halle solo career tho. Stuff that’s been leaked and what she’s given snippets of are great.
She was trying to fit in .. but don’t realize that she’s so great the people need to gravitate towards her 😢
Yup🎉
Chloe is over kill. She does too much. I think her people wants to turn her into another Beyonce. That's a shame. We need new creative talent.
If she wants to be Beyonce then she gone need to hire MATTHEW KNOWLES! He has the blueprint for Beyonces success. His strategic marketing, trimming, EVERYTHING is what launched solo career that got her where she ism Chloe needs MATTHEW!
What would you consider as “too much”
That’s my issue with Chöle, she became basic run of the mill with her solo career.
QUESTION:
Do y’all get a sense of exaggeration from Chloe that translates to being inauthentic? Sometimes I don’t believe what she is singing. Does she have enough relationship experience to sing what she is singing to make it authentic or is she exaggerating? Idk if I’m explaining this well
I feel Chloe ‘on stage’ is TOO DRASTICALLY different from the Chloe I see off stage. It doesn’t seem authentic. I understand duality and versatility but when it’s TOO much of a drastic difference, it feels corny and forced
Also, She has better IG pics than the album cover. Her team could’ve made the cover concept look better
Idk something is not adding up but anyway…I can’t wait for Halles album and when they collaborate together again
Its a 4/10 for me
Agreed. I gave it a 4.5/10
I agree, it seems like she was going for an "era" but it definitely didn't translate in the album
The quality is so good, the genre swinging, the electro break in Feel Me Cry, so many great songs which are even better live....which is her strength, btw
As a first solo album, this is hot! A strong 7/10, because I know she has a LOT more in her
Some of the issue is most of us know how amazing Chloe is, so the expectations are far higher, which is obviously a gift/curse.
I Don’t Mind
Feel Me Cry
In Pieces
Cheat Back
Make it Look Easy are my top tracks...For the Night, Have Mercy, Treat Me & Surprise should have been on there.
I’m sorry but i need an ungodly hour tour first
Body do should have been the first single and deserves its own album PERIOD
But dnt get me wrong I LOVE ChLoe and Halle
Edit : bc I was being to harsh bc I do love the first half of the album. I’m jst upset bc I dnt get her vibe frm the album , jst generic, good songs, overall
people forget artist development is a thing.
Criticism helps with that development
I just know these songs couldn’t have been the BEST out of the bunch.
How sway??
THIS! 1000x THIS!!!
Its like 2 different people when shes making music and on ig live or something
y’all don’t know this girl 😭😊
This album is bad to me. I wouldn’t accept it from anyone. I tried again tonight and it’s just not.
Same here hate her album had to come but it being a fail is even more embarrassing
I think this is the case for me as well. I am a "Another Sad Love Song" and "Saturday Love" type of a girl...a huge cry from Chloe's music.
@@tias.6675 Yes! Same here. I did like Have Mercy. But I haven’t connected with any of her other solo records. I like Chloe x Halle music more than her solo work.
You are right I think Halle had a lot to do with the Ungodly hour album, when you look at the sneak peek she be putting out
I wish she and Halle stayed a unit. Chloe has a modern voice and Halle a vintage voice together they made something so odd and spectacular
Where did you and so many ppl get the idea the idea that they broke up?
Personally I feel like Chloe is more of a pop girlie rather than an RnB girlie and that’s where the issue is…
I agree 100% she flourishes there!
I agree 100% she flourishes there!
The fact that she had a pop album and trashed it😢 I would’ve liked to see her mix in more pop songs at the very least
Great points ❤
I agree,I am left confused
I agree. Very well said.
It caused a rift in her audience and I feel like that’s where most of the rude backlash comes from( especially her non-fans and the shade room community😭)
I honestly don’t know who she wants her audience to be and right now I hate the backlash she’s getting.
@@sola2351 No they got 4 more CxH albums to go before their deal is up
@@mudeasno1baby73 seriously?! Is the deal for joint projects only? If so, the situation is worst than I first thought
Bey robbed those young ladies 😕
Chloe’s album is amazing! I love it.
The moment we stop comparing her to Beyoncé.. we’ll appreciate her.💕
She compares herself to Beyoncé and y'all Need to see It !! Everything She does Is inspired by bey.. the cheatback video in reverse? Me myself and i by bey.
I personally think She waa Better with her sister Halle .. they complimented eachother so well.. 😢
@@letiziacaretti7990 taking inspiration from & comparing are not the same thing. try using a dictionary next time.
But everybody likes what they likes so 🤷🏼♀️
@@letiziacaretti7990 She never said she was like Beyonce TF 😒🙄 Stop putting words in her mouth 😒🙄
@@mudeasno1baby73 when did i Say She said that? 😑
I agree 100% that’s since Halle influence is gone something is missing ..what if they were meant to be a duo 🤔 so sad
The thing is we don't want the "dating future" content nor the "players club" theme bs. We are tired.
@@nolipoli430 That's what ya'll don't want, but that is where she was in life when she made that album and so that is the content that she wanted to make.
literally everything black culture including language, music, & food started in the south 😭 let’s be fr
@@anastasiathehiphopfairy im talking as a whole. all components of black culture. MOST black music and most Black language came from the South
I agree mostly everything started in the south especially music. The one exception being hip hop. And with the great migration, most people living in northern cities were originally from the south.
..the moment we’ve ALL been waiting for! 🎉❤
She’s a great performer there’s just something that is not connecting with the audience, I will continue to support Chloe 🔥❤️ GOOOO CHLOEEEE
The album was disappointing from the cover on down. It’s a great lesson (hopefully) for her and her team
What made you say that?
the cover ate down. some of the tracks ate. she chose the wrong singles and certain songs are way too short, being interludes when they bomb asf and should’ve been full songs fr.
some songs were mid. so over all, it’s a mid album but she’s my girl and imma stand beside her 😌🤞🏾
@@xoxarily Her singles have better album covers
why black ppl from the north insist that southern black culture somehow isn’t its own entity and their “swag” trickeles down to us I will never understand. Just completely disrespecting cities like Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte etc.
The singles she released were supposed to be on the album I agree this was not a good body of work all of the singles she has should’ve been weaved into this work.
Whoever worked with FLO needs to work with Chloe❤️
It’s all stepping stones. They did many of the greats the same way starting out. ❤
@@TimoteoDeBaum Facts for sure!!!
I think Halle's musical influence on the sound was such a good point because the snippets of her solo music sound so beautiful and deffo more reminiscent of ungodly music. I'm looking forward to hearing Halle's debut. As for Chlöe's debut it was okay. Loved the intro but felt she played a little safe but She's still growing as an artist.
reminiscent of Ungodly Hour… Chloe is a SOLO artist😭 why would her music sound like UGH
@@itzcandy5896 none of Halle’s snippets sound the same… she has snippets that consists of jazz , R&B , and rock… we know you don’t like Halle but you don’t have to lie like this…
@@lesjones7818 missed the point
It’s sounded like it was rushed..the disappointing part is we all know she’s a phenomenal artist and she’s not applying herself
I agree that cheat back didn't need future haha! I saw the performance on Jimmy Kimmel before I heard it with the feature and I don't think future made the song any better.
18:58 made me think..... and at this point Im thinking it's true - the sound we are looking for maybe Halle
i kinda feel like the track placement added to the disappointment. like having sings like body do after pray me away makes no sense. she could’ve completely redone the placement and a lot more people would’ve felt differently
The comment about the South having trickle-down swag is crazy. especially considering that the south is where black culture in the US originates and all black music is rooted in southern black traditions brought from enslaved peoples. It looks different so maybe you don't have an appreciation for it but the South has its own thing going on. No trickle-down needed.
yes ungodly hour was amazing & so refreshing!
@@chichilafemme6336 Fair point!!
The difference is Chloe has had the push for years and the backing of Beyoncé. Ice spice is still new to this
Ice spice is very laid back with her raunchiness .
I actually love the album. I don’t get the hate around her though.
@@kaluchiomasusan4259 it’s because they keep putting her on a Beyoncé standard literally the beginning is about Beyoncé…
@@atlastvera8567 I'm sorry but no Beyonce fans are checking for Chloe be FR. CXH fans are the only ones who were really paying attention and she changed herself so much trying to appeal to the shade room audience and lost something in the process. The song she made for swarm was the type of music we all wanted from her
The singles were good but didn't have enough time to build momentum because of her rushed rollout, her features were two toxic old men known for making the same generic music over and over that her core audience doesn't f with, the album tracks were lackluster and boring, the album cover looked similar to an album made by a smaller indie artist, the only things that was consistently good was her live performances and the snippets but those simply set our expectations too high.
Exactly
Your next video should be on Halle, her snippets, upcoming projects and TLM previews!
Rebrand its simple this edgy dark vibes and over dancing just over powers the vocal
Yes
It's too much it gives demonic. I remember even Rihanna had to be told to tone it down.
Thank you for explaining what a vocal flip is so I know what to name the thing I hate😭
It can get annoying when it’s used unnecessary
I feel like that amazing intro was what this album COULD'VE BEEN. Which is unfortunate when you think about it.

Politics of desirability is my favorite video and love the drag race content to💖 just had to give you your flowers 💐 real quick
I listened to her album once and have never thought about revisiting it. "In Pieces" was not a good album. The Chris Duet, Pray it Away, and Title track are the best songs, but still fall flat. Maybe I am just old and am used to authentic R&B and quality lyrics...
It felt short. Too short imo
Congratulations! Ms. Chloe Bailey! Album is FIRE!!!. Right/Wrong - expressing yourself on your own terms. It's your journey, nobody's else. She just needs to fire some people.. other than that she is great
I loved *Body do* I just wished she had a music video for it and *Told Ya*
I can't get behind Chris brown but I must admit I liked the song. *Heart on My Sleeve* is pretty too.
It’s a good album but I wish there was more songs that made me move, like something similar to body do
FLO EATTTTTTTTTTTTS. giving it one single as a time.
Future is so un serious! I HATE HIM ON ANY SONG.
“I am in a constant state of practice, you can never fail if your in a constant state of practice” Amen Amen AMEN
4:50 SPEAK TO EM!!
I agree with every sentiment re: Pray It Away lol As a single, I was annoyed. By the time it came up on the album, I was relieved
That snippet of heart on my sleeve got my hopes up real bad just for her to spit in my face after hearing the full song 😢
But it was a good short song ngl
I Don't mind, Told Ya and Body Do were solid and so was the intro as expected but they're the only songs that really stood out to me. A lot of the ballads, while cute, felt like filler to me which wasn't the case with her and halle's older albums were the ballads were powerful and didn't seem to drag. And a lot of the songs that sounded promising in the snippets were either too short or sounded like they were missing something.
