Xbox Series X [YCC 422] Setting: On or Off for TVs Without HDMI 2.1?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лют 2021
- We explain why it may be beneficial to enable the "Allow YCC 4:2:2" setting on the Xbox Series X for TVs that don't have HDMI 2.1 support. With YCC 422 disabled, the Xbox will be sending out 3840x2160@60Hz at 10-bit 4:2:0, but with YCC422 enabled, the video signal will be 12-bit 4:2:2.

OK...so I tried it out on my LG B7 OLED and it actually worked! It fixed an issue I was having where the screen appeared as if it was having some interlacing issues. Basically, the image around certain parts would look like every other line wasn't being drawn properly. I set the SX to both 4:2:2 and 12 bit color (previously 4:2:2 was disabled and the bit color was set to 10 bit) and everything now looks great. Thanks a lot for this video, it really helped a bunch.
Aren't we supposed to set bit depth to 8 bit? What was your problem exactly? Colorbanding?
I use also the B7 with 8bit and 422 disabled don't have those interlacing issues. As recommended before. But sometimes I think there is color banding... At least I would expect more from HDR xD
@@skydivin4ng3l My tv is an ru7100 samsung. Should I enable it?
Oh boy, I’m going to test this right now.
Thanks for the information. 👍🏼
Been fiddling around with this setting for a while.
It's a no brainer to have it ticked no matter what TV you fool.
Can’t wait for your 8k oled reviews
You give very good info keep up the good work brother.
Damn it. All these years. This is great and true advice.
Thanks for all the great content you upload. I would love to see a video about the best settings when using a RTX 3080 connected to a CX!
I'm subbing simply for the reason of your fans loving u for getting straight to the point and for u having an amazing teaching voice
Thanks for taking your time to make this explanation.
Was just looking at this setting last night. Now I know what it does....
Vincent, you are the man!! Good content like always
One of the best channels on this platform, thank you. :)
Since Sony is not considerate enough to provide such granular signal information, any idea if there's a benefit to enabling this setting when connected to the X900H? I know you said it really only benefits HDMI 2.0, but I can't confirm if the 2.1 ports on this TV are actually allowing 4K @ 60hz @ 4:4:4 with that setting disabled.
Thank you for this video
the next time I'll meet you on a TV presentation event (Samsung, LG, sony or other) I'll come to say hello and congratulate you on your work! I'm a French journalist and I've already met you, but I didn't dare to bother you in the middle of your work.
Hope to see you soon
Kind regards,
David
Hi Vince, could you please talk about the screen tearing glitch in the x900h at 480p and 720p resolutions at game and graphics picture mode
How long would it have taken us to realize this without the video? Btw, the calculator is pure gold too!
literally last night i was playing state of decay 2 on XSX and wondering about this!
Vinny, you psychic bastard! haha
Short and sweet indeed! V is for Vincent and "visual" guru. The Murideo's calculator is more comprehensive than their previous HDMI bandwidth chart. I wish you would have commented what was the optimal setting for the CX in that case.
To all who complained about Vincent never pointing out the negatives of OLED, piss off. He's always mention "flashing" artifacts with near black gamma, vertical stripping and uniformity issues with moving near black full screens, automatic brightness limiting, HDR peak brightness at 10% windows only. In almost every single review! I bought a C9 last year fully aware of all these shortcomings thanks to Vincent. Imperfect and all, OLED is still the best performer for dark room viewing. True blacks, vibrant colors, wide viewing angles.
Question: How much data does Dolby Atmos take up when transferring sound data?
Absolutely brilliant definition ❤️
Could you do a video on if the Xbox Series X’s Blu-ray playback could be improved via software? Not sure if it’s a hardware issue or a “they need to care more” issue.
Hi, what about the video setting on the Apple TV4k, should we leave it to 4:2:0 or 4:4:4? i m using an LG b6 Oled which supports only Hdmi 2.0 Thanks.
Is their a clear significant difference in picture quality between the xbox and a dedicated 4k blu ray player? Say the xbox series x picture quality compair to the oppo 203 or is the or is the picture quality minimal?
What about if you use pc input on your tv for the Xbox? still check 422? I must say the colours looks much better 👍
Couldn’t you just set your tv to the pc setting to force it to do 444 all the time? Would this work on TVs that support chroma 444 or are there potential drawbacks?
Hi Vincent, I was wondering if you’re going to be reviewing the Hisense 100L5 and can we expect to see a video on it soon?
Great video! I've toggled between the two and 422 displays less banding on my Panasonic GZ950.
Though my Pioneer AVR says it's 422 24 bit (the same as it says with Dolby Vision).
Need to find the Panasonic service menu to confirm as I feel it's actually in 422 36 bit!
Thank you, best explanation yet. Subscrfibed!
Hey Vincent I have a question. I have a Samsung Q80T and a Series X. I was wondering how can I find out for sure what subsampling my TV is displaying. I don't know of any info the TV gives out or anything
A lot of people including myself have had the random black screen especially on boot up. Its basiscally intermitent and goes away for some and for some it only happans watching bluray or streaming movies but for me it sometimes happens in the game. Now theres videos that say turning off YCC 4:2:2 and raising your high fidelity setting to 30 bit solves the problem. For now it seems to work, how ever i believe its not related to those settings and may be linked to Microsofts update. I basically leave mine turned off, however when its turn on it does no matter if you are in a game or whatever it pops up a black screen with the message about an update. I believe the update settings is bugged when its turned off. Why do i think this? Because everytime my Series X acted up with the random intermitent black screen i have gone into the update settings to check for an update and every time there was an update ready. After updating the black screen issue seems to disapear for awhile until the next update. I am not saying this is the true reason but it seems to be linked to it somehow.
But isn’t it the case that even when connected to a hdmi 2.1 tv the Xbox series X will revert back to the hdmi 2.0 Tmds method when outputting anything other than 4K 120? For example when watching a blu ray on the series x it doesn’t matter if the tv supports 2.1 it won’t use the bandwidth available anyway as it only uses FRL for a 4K 120 output.
I been using this it makes a great difference
What XSX settings would you recommend for Sony 4K projector with 10.2 Gbps HDMI?
Thanks for covering this
Hello do by chance know what I am doing wrong? I have a LG
CX 48 Oled. I am trying to play Forza Horizon 4 on the new Xbox. I'm
thinking I have done something wrong in setting options within the new
Xbox. The screen is full screen in the game but the left side of the
screen is one way and the right side of the screen is another way
leaving a line down the center showing how the screen is full screen but
split down the middle? Do you know a fix? Thank you
After my test on my setup Panasonic GZ 950 with Xbox series x best option is ycc 4:2:2 off and color depth 8bit.
I have Samsung ks8000 should I turn on the ycc 222 option? I have my series x running threw a Yamaha Av receiver to the tv via hdmi arc
Is this the same as setting the video transfer rate on the PS5 to -1....????
Your videos are extremely helpful. I can get most of my Xbox HDR stuff to look great on my 2018 TCL 6 series, but select games and movies (like Elder Scrolls Online or the movie Cars) do not look HDR with the "Dark HDR" setting on the TV. It feels almost like some sources from the Xbox Series X are being tone mapped too low by the TV. Have you experienced this?
I had the same thing watching The Punisher on a 6 Series with an Xbox
I have the same TV. I use the Bright HDR mode and have it dialed in. In my opinion, the colors pop very nicely and I don’t lost anything in the blacks. Gamma is set to 2.4 for HDR gaming.
Hi. I read that Dolby Vision technology doesn't need HDMI's 2.1 bandwith and uses YCC 444 anyway so... Checked or Unchecked in that case?
short and sweet like the appendages of a ginger bread man!
lol
Did you mean sweet or sweat? I haven’t seen a ginger bread man sweat.
Most videos are 420, so if Xbox passes 420 without touching it, it will be better. Much better.
🤣🤣🤣
Lolol
Vincent, in lg A1 that has hdmi 2.0 , allow ycc 4:2:2? freesync information shows 8 bits instead of 12 bits, is that an error of information ?thanks
Thank you very much for this very informative and helpfull video thanks
I have the Dell S2721DGF. I play at 1440p/120hz with HDR off.
Should I keep YCC 422 On or Off?
There's alot of debate around this monitor on Reddit and I can't find a solid answer anywhere.
Also any suggestions? Like is it better with HDR on or with a different bit depth?
On Lg c1 ps4 pro showing yuv422 HDR but bit depth as 8bit, if i set yuv 420 manually its signal info showing 12 bit hdr but colors are worse than yuv422 specially blues, if i turn off hdr ps4 pro in automatic shows 4k in 8bit rgb, how it's possible i thought yuv422 is a 10bit signal
Hi Vincent. I know this video is a few years old but I'm trying to get an answer about my Xbox Series X paired with my new Sony A95L. In regards to streaming Netflix from the Xbox, if I leave "allow YCC" off the TV shows an input signal of YUV 10 bit 4:2:0, and if I enable "allow YCC," the TV shows an input signal of YUV 8 bit 4:2:2. I'm not sure which setting I should be using for best quality and color. Any help is appreciated!
I've known this for ages also if left unticked Dolby Atmos sound sometimes doesn't kick in due to no bandwidth. Gotta allow for sound as well
If I’m mainly using my Xbox for gaming with stereo headphones would you recommend leaving this feature on or off?
Vizio M55Q8-H1 2020. Which color
Bit 8 or 10? And enable or disable YCC 4:2:2? I play 4K HDR 60hz and 1080 none HDR 60hz games.
Hey I watched your video on setup with the ps5 but I feel that my blacks are still too dark on the Xbox series x. What would you suggest to change that?
Tried this on my KS8000(US), Allow YCC 4:2:2 with 12-bit on a 4K HDR 60FPS game and looking at the gradient of the sky this caused banding/shimmering and flickering. Seems best to leave Allow YCC 4:2:2 OFF on this TV, but OK to leave it on 12-bit because it seems to switch to 10-bit automatically for HDR games. 12-bit on non-HDR games seems fine without problems.
Precisely... And i have a vizio v555 g1 series x... Pc rgb.. Dolby vision... All tv assists off.. Esp backlight control and black levels\black details off.. Gamma 2.1
I have the same TV as you. So you put this setting to "off" ? Do you have any specific settings in your TV enabled?
This all seems massively complicated for a games console. I bought a series x and my screen keeps going black for a second. Took it back and the new one did the same thing. All my other HDMI stuff works on that TV so I think I'm gonna get a refund and go for PS5. Utterly ridiculous from Microsoft.
What if your TV only supports 10bit and 4k @60hz?
Any idea how to play Blu-rays on XSX and LG CX. I get black screen with audio and menu still working very often.
Loving your vids and I have a Question, in regards to a Sony 900h. I have a series x and a ps5. I don’t plan on 120fps gaming on the ps5, just 4K 30-60 fps fidelity mode games. If I have the Xbox on the HDMI 2.1 (HDMI 4) port and the ps5 on a standard 4K dolby port (HDMI 2), will I lose graphical quality on the ps5 not having the HDMI 2.1, or just the 120fps options?
Just the 120fps
Another thing you can do is call your TV's customer service line to see if your TV natively supports 4:2:2.
If not, then it's best to turn it off, because it can actually introduce further input lag or even other issues.
The comment I was after, cheers big ears
8bits+ frc panel like my Samsung QLED Q70B can support 422 at 10-12 bits?.
has anyone tested this for the 2020 TCL 6-series TV? what's your preferred setting for this?
I have a 4-series but it’s 4K I’m about to check it out rn
Okay, understand! My TV's HDMI 2.0 support! So my Xbox Series X console 3840x2160@60Hz, YCC 4:2:2, 12-bit, Standard recommended (RGB Limited) settings is good! But my Samsung TV's dashboard what's the mode gaming? Gameconsole mode or PC mode on TV's dashboard setting???
@hdtvtest
I have a Samsung KU6290 which is HDMI 2.0 60hz UHD. RTINGS says it supports only 10 bit color depth. Should I leave YCC 4:2:2 setting off on my Xbox Series X?
Can anyone offer any info please? I have a 4K ultra HD HDR10 JVC TV but whenever I try enable HDR with my PS5 it tells me it isn’t supported though in the specs it tells me it is. I have enabled enhanced hdmi mode on the ports etc and still nothing. Tried messing with settings also
@HDTVTest Why does the xbox not output
12 Bit at YCC 4:2:0 ?
Thanks for the heads up Vincent! Gonna test this later today
Great info here.
I was using 2.0 oled and I knew something was wrong with the colours.
Couldn’t believe that ycc option will make such a difference. Now games look a lot better at least until I can buy an 8k oled.
Good for you :) For video you may want to still use 420 though! All videos are 420, that is all blu-rays and all videos on streaming platforms. Just FYI.
Did you activate or deactivate the oled?
Don't buy 8K, it's a waste of money currently, especially for gaming
8k for what series x ? 😅
When I allow YC 422 the picture goes a lot darker and when I try to calibrate the image via the Xbox no matter what I do I can't see the eye on the Brightness screen...It's a shame because the blacks go so black... I'm using an Asus ROG strix XG32VQ btw, just saying...I wonder why?
I have a Philips TPVision 48OLED806 and everything works ok even the 120hz but vrf and gsync are not highlighted. I am using hdmi 2.1 but still not able to check those 2 boxes on series x.
Another great video and way to disprove the non-believers (they know who they are). Thanks also for the calculator, very handy for us non-professionals.
In these hard times we need more jokes like the gingerbread man joke.
My TV has hdmi 2.1 ports but they are only able to do auto lo latency mode, from what iv read in reviews.
I have had 4k blu rays playing through my blu ray player with certified high bandwidth hdmi, and I'm seeing data transfers from blu Ray player to TV of 40 + gigs.
Would this apply with the xbox also, so what exactly are my TV hdmi ports capable of with the xbox? Should I change the setting in this video or leave it? Please could you clear this up for me very confusing.
then on lg cx are 12 bits with ycc4.2.2 enabled instead of 8 bits as it puts freesync information?thanks!
Anyone tested this on a Sony TV? I have a Sony 940E and I'm too lazy to test it myself to see if enabling that helps with my XSX.
Hi and tnx for your good advices , i have a question plz , my tv is lg ub830t , its 2014 model and its 4k but without hdr , should i turn ycc 4.2.2 on or off in my xbox series x? Thank you .
Awesome video…in the morning when I go to play “Cyberpunk 2077” on my XBox Series X using a Sony X900f I will see if this is enabled or not…and I cannot remember if I have it set to 8 bit or 12…or maybe it is on 10.
The game looks absolutely stunning I am so happy with this 5 year old HDTV I cannot imagine it looking any better. :)>
What about this setting with Dolby Vision gaming?
in lg cx when dialing ycc 4.2.2 changes directly to 8 bits, is it an information error?thanks!
Is output with deep color on auto in the Sony ubpx-800 with 4:2:2, 12 bit? My TV is the Sony KD-X81j
Do i leave this on or off on my lg c1? Color depth to 8 bit aswell right? Set it to PC mode too.
TV 4K:120hz model: 65SM9010
Series X
Play on 4:2:2 8bit\standart on SX options.
If i put 10bit input lowest, should i put rgb mode on this tv(full rgb matrix\10bit)?
How can test input on 4k:120hz? Without ycc 4:2:2 picture low quality but faster input.
I need help!!!, I have a 2014 Samsung UHD TV that my Xbox one X says is a 10 bit panel and support HDMI 2.0 im getting color banding in 4k/60 8 or 10 bit color depth i will not get color banding in 1080P 10 bit I do have a HDMI cable that is HDMI 2.0 This TV is a none HDR 4k TV .
Is there anyway I can get 4k/60 with 10 bit color?
I’m using a Samsung q70. Does anyone have any advice specific to this line of TVs?
I have an xbox series x hooked up to an Acer Nitro XV272U (VBMIIPRZX version) monitor. Can you tell me which boxes I should have ticked on the xbox series x TV and display options please.
I have an onkyo reciever between the TV and Xbox.
With 422 ticked it shows ycbcr 24 4:2:2 for halo infinite, but when unticked ycbcr 30 4:2:0.
This can surely not be correct? The first one must be shown incorrect since it's hdr 60fps? Possible that my onkyo doesn't recognise the 36 4:2:2 and instead shoe 24 4.2.2?
Hi i have a Sony Bravia KD-65XF9005 with 60hz max locked ! But when i turn the 1080p and 120hz on the series x on. And tv settings game mode on than i can run 120fps on cold war. I`m just wundering how this works? but it looks so super smooth.
I play a Series S on a Acer Nitro E1322UR 32 inch 1440p 144hz monitor should I enable YCC 422 & what colour depth should I use??
Xbox One X (not series), LG C1 and HDMI 2.1 Cable
Should I enable or disabled that option?
Also, HDMI Input, Game or PC? I know PC Enable 4:4:4.,- but i dont know if the Xbox One can get any benefit with that enable using a 2.1 cable
LG CX + Xbox One X= on or off, and 8,10 or 12 bits color?
Thanks for all your in-depth coverage on the latest consoles! One game I wish you'd look into is Destiny 2 because HDR white levels are never accurate. I could never darken it enough to look proper on my TCL, but when I use my PC on the same TV HDR limits are leveled correctly & it looks amazing! It's been like this for several years. Great work Vincent!
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my account password. I would love any help you can give me
@Damari Henrik Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Damari Henrik it worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account :D
@Tate Martin no problem xD
Probably cause it’s a TCL
I have to have ycc4:2:2 checked in order for my tv to go into hdr. If I unchecked it my tv won't display hdr. Is this normal?
Vincent, do you think MS will fix the issues you outlined in your other video when you compared XSX and PS5?
If the problem exists in the OneS/X then I wouldn't assume they will fix it.
@@robertt9342 well they fixed an earlier issue with raise blacks in the black bar area so I don't see why they wouldn't fix this

I leave my PC on RGB 10 bit Full range... for gaming via HDMI 2.1 on my Samsung QN90A.
Is there any reason to use anything other, than RGB ?
I don't use PC mode for anything.
I've been scratching my head over this for months now. I have the Xbox One X + LGC9. I want to know if I should check or uncheck 422 when I'm playing games. I want the less input lag possible. I've tried both and I can't see any difference
If you want less input lag, use a wired game pad, and use a lan cable instead of WiFi. Some people recommend to set the Xbox to RGB pc mode and downgrade the resolution to 1080p.
Ycc422/12bit has nothing to do with latency, it’s helps to view the games with better details. The resolution is the key factor which could create few ms delays. The Xbox One X definitely has delays in 4K. I am not sure about Series X as I have an Series S.
If you don’t like 1080p on a 4K screen I recommend you to get a hdmi2.0a hdr scaller edid rekorder with hdcp2.2 support for better upscaling or/and buy an old 1080p panda plasma with low response times for gaming.
@@dangr3957 Thank you very much for your detailed answer 👍🏻
I noticed some differences when I do play in 1080p yes. Especially in games like Horizon 4 or Call of Duty. I might want to buy the Series X , but it's quite hard to get here in France.
Can you please answer a question that I've been trying to find an answer for? Why do 120Hz TVs not want to use Motion Interpolation with Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles? I originally purchased the TCL R646... It didn't allow interpolation with my Xbox consoles for awhile, until an update for the TV, allowed it. I returned that TV back to the store, as I had to many issues with it. I replaced it with the LG C1. The LG C1 has not ever allowed Motion Interpolation on my Xbox consoles, and no update has changed that. Why is this a problem with 120Hz panels, and Xbox consoles? How the hell can I get around it, and have motion interpolation on my Xbox games! I want my 30fps games to look like they're in 60fps, damn it! Please, provide an answer, if you can!
I checked this on my Series S and I can tell YCC4222 on 12 bit in RGB mode makes the games smoother gradients, better darks and detailed brights.
It’s almost I have a different tv!
Do you hve the 50hz and 24hz on
What is with LG G1 @4k120 and Dolby Vision? On or off?🤔
So I’m guessing if I’m using a 1080p 2.0 monitor I need to uncheck this?
I'm saving to buy the TCL series 6 2020 model.

Should i buy lg cx, c1 or g1 for series x?
Thank you so much! Just found this out myself, seeing how I am in the process of setting up a 4K matrix 4x4 switcher throughout my house.
2.1 fiber cables are extremely costly. And I couldn’t justify the cost, not to mention potential incompatibility issues, with fiber 2.1 cables being so new to the market.
A great work around is the 12-bit, 4:2:2 settings, which take full advantage of hdmi 2.0 spec.
Thank you for this video... there isn’t much out there on this.

Yes, dude! But the "Colour Space" setting Standard (recommended) or PC RGB? And my TV's dashboard what's on mode "Gameconsole mode" or "PC mode"???
