I’ve never seen anyone describe the feel of Supernote like a pen on a pad of paper specifically. That’s a great way to paint a perfect picture. Very helpful.
That’s awesome! I’m sure you’re gonna love it! If you notice something while using it that you’d like more answers on or even for me to make a video on it, let me know, and I’ll be happy to help out with it!
Personally, I prefer a more pencil like experience vs a pen experience. Also, I don’t want apps on my device to distract me. So I prefer the remarkable. Good comparison and review! Very informative
Thanks! That is totally an understandable opinion. Also, the apps are mostly if you side load which is a bit of an annoying process and it won’t be there by default. The only apps that are a available right away is the kindle app and their drawing app which I’d say still fits the distraction free feeling of the device
I have both and agree. I prefer the writing experience of the Remarkable, the simplicity and intuitiveness of the reMarkable. I’m currently using my A5X/A6X2 more due to the functionally. Even with that I find myself going back to my reMarkable. The Nomad Crystal is amazing and I can’t wait for the A5X2 Crystal and that might just make me finally switch. I have had my rM2 for almost 4 years with no issues with fragility. You are not stuck with the MarkerPlus for the reMarkable and other Wacom pens work on it including the S-pen that gives you the HOM2 pen-like expereince. And lastly, with remarkable hacks, you can now have shapes, split screen and some other functions on the reMarkable.
@@telockett9850 what makes you keep going back to the Remarkable even though you say the Supernote has more functionality? Is it some feature the Remarkable doesn't have or just that you are more familiar with it?
The biggest thing none of these reviews have answered for me is once you back up your device on Google drive, can you read the documents on your PC. Similarly, can you see/markup/add-tp any documents from your Google drive on the device? I can't figure out why none of these devices can do that.
Yeah so the biggest thing is that they use a file format that most cloud services can’t open. You can covert them to pdfs and then sync the pdfs and mark them up, but that’s basically the best case scenario. I can’t really tell you why they don’t support the cloud services better, but as far as I know, that’s the best you can do.
Well I hope I didn’t make it more confusing for you! If there’s a particular use case that you’re wondering which would be better for, let me know and I’ll give my advice on it
I hate the scroll feature on remarkable so much. I need to know when a page ends so I don’t have to worry about which page has extra information that I have to remember to scroll to.
In hand I don’t feel like the Supernote isn’t premium, but I will say, the reMarkable is definitely more premium feeling. And yeah the Supernote software is better in my opinion.
Good video. Now that you can sideload apps on the Supernote, it can be an all in one reader as well. Being able to add web page hyperlinks is also awesome. The best part is they keep putting those features on the earlier version of the device too.
Yes Supernote does a really good job of continuing to add more and more features as time goes on and they have really good support. I really like how they are as a company. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
I've had my Remarkable 2 since launch, gone through it's software growing pains, but got grandfathered into it's now-subscription services. They weren't subscription when I bought it and had I known that'd be the model for them, I'd have not ever gotten it. Despite that, I still get all of the services I bought it for free, so my experience and other people's experiences with it now will be a far different thing. Writing wise, it's superb. I've never felt like it was a fragile piece of hardware, but i keep mine in a folio. I've dropped it, set too much stuff on it, had it in my backpack in a car on a 100 degree day, it still works perfectly. Like you said, though, the battery issue is what I'm worried about and when it goes bad, will there be a service center for it? Finally, the drawing is what I primarily use mine for, but I pine after a SuperNote for it's page linking features. It's pen and built in brushes didn't look all that interesting to me (until recently), and so I've always hoped ReMarkable would hack into it's system the linking capability. So far they've instead focused on selling a keyboard seemingly trying to compete with the eInk typewriters. Still, I want a at least a letter (8.5x11) sized screen. Neither deliver. They seem more inclined to fit a form factor overall than deliver the writing space of said form factor. I don't know which approach is better, but I know what I want. :)
Also as I said I do drawing, and the Staedler pencil has, imo, a perfect replication of a brush tip marker feel on textured paper with their super thin tips. And the screen is amazing at capturing the accuracy of that fine point. It's cool because I practice my touch with the infinite electric sketch book and it makes me better when I go and so something on real paper. Just wanted to point that out for artists. Also the brush pen is exactly the pen to use in the software with your staedler. It's just magical how this feels.
Thanks for that! This is some great advice for anyone looking either of these devices and some great insight from a long term reMarkable user! I agree though, it seems like they are really interested in selling people on the keyboard case but I tried it and it was not as useful as I thought it’d be.
does RM2 support links in pdfs? I’m expecting my main use intiially woudl be to bring in a pre-made PDF planner template with links to days/weeks/notes etc - so if RM2 can use those links it may be be enough. Adding extra links on the supernote would be an added bonus though - and I’m surprised the RM2 doesn’t do text recognition/search - you have to manually convert to text. I’d want to be able to search old notes for keywords
Glad you found the info helpful! Yeah I tried to get Gimlock to do one of these videos, but he would always just say, “Me Grimlock not Reviewer, Me King!” So I guess he’s not really interested 🤷♂️😂
Which of these is helpful in screen sharing to gmeet or zoom to share notes while teaching online? I am crazy about note taking, colors and to do list, a student n a teacher, so which is better fr me?
In my experience, Supernote is better for students and teachers and has a little bit more powerful screen sharing features. I’ve never tried it directly with google meets or zoom however
How does writing on the reMarkable system compare with writing on the iPad or other tablet device? Also does the reMarkable have the ability to copy your text writing to copy later say from the pdf export file to another document say word? Also it would be nice if you have any thoughts about a pro App that would be great for writers for like books what future writers would like to use! Like you was saying the ability to add SEO/key words right as you are writing. I don’t know of many good apps out there that help with writing papers and books from the Ideas/Notes journal to drafts/word programming to final book with pictures/media ready to be published in ebooks or sent to be read as an audiobook or interactive book! Just something I would love to hear more about if you do lots of writing or research!
So I’d say that the reMarkable is more like pencil and Paper than a tablet. Smart Paper is like the best way to describe the device. So the writing feel is top notch and is definitely superior than an iPad or other tablet. But it’s JUST for writing, unlike an iPad. I know the reMarkable can copy and paste text and I believe it can go from one document to another. However, I’m not sure if it can actually select pdf text to copy or not. If that’s something you’re very interested in, I can try and check for you as I don’t have a reMarkable of my own anymore, but I can try and borrow one of my family member’s. As for the Pro app for writing, I’ll definitely take a look into that as I haven’t really done research on that yet, that’s a great suggestion, thank you!
I haven’t spent a lot of time with it, but from what I can tell, it doesn’t really change my perspective on it too much, but I will let you know if that changes
Great video. I am wondering whether the Supoernote Nomad could expand on the written page, making wider or longer, just like remarkable? Could we extend that page, if we want everything on one single page?
I think these could definitely be used for school! If I had to recommend just one of them for that, I’d say the Supernote as it has more software features that could benefit anyone in school
Hi! What are you thoughts on this device as a planner/agenda alternative? I would like something for work that can take notes with customers while mainly replacing my paper agenda. I also see the new A5X2 is coming out soon. Thank you
I think it can do planners very well! And yes the A5X2 should be great at that too. There’s not really any software differences between them it’s just if you want to wait for the larger size option or not.
In my experience I have never felt that anything was too small on the device, so I would say so. The only thing to consider when using this device for a lot of reading is that it has no front light so you’ll need some light at night for reading
Did the size difference make much difference for you. I am nervous that I will find the Nomad too small, don't want to wait for the 5x2. Supernote is being very cagey about the release
For me, the size hasn’t been a big issue, but I also like the smaller, more portable form factor for many scenarios. There are definitely pluses and minuses, but overall I don’t mind it
Yes they work beautifully without internet connection and you can totally just turn on the WiFi when you need it to sync. That’s what I had for min for a while. It also saves some battery life!
I am sorry for the stupid question - can you organize the notes in a files, and than files inside files? I mean for example I have a “therapy file” on my computer and inside I have “articles” and “sessions”. So can you have like infinite files inside files? 😅
Yes, several times I have put folders inside of folders and as far as I know, it doesn’t have any kind of limit on how much you can do that. Good question!
That’s actually a great point, I should’ve covered it in the video. Basically, they both have it, and they are both basically the same as far as how accurate they are. The remarkable does it by just selecting the section of handwriting you want and they converts it where the Supernote needs to be specifically in a “Handwriting recognition Note”. Sorry that wasn’t covered, hopefully that quick summary helps!

Exactly! Soon the larger size will be available. I should be having one of those as well to test on the channel
